- Miter saw dust collection mod that has a drastic improvement with a simple modification using rubber drawer liner. This is a prototype for my new saw, it made a massive difference and I will improve it in a future video.
Travis, @ShopNation get ahold of me for a 3-D print collab. I have a detailed design to improve this to make it extremely efficient! Model & plans to follow.

Description:
In all my videos it’s my goal to help you Maximize Your Shop! In this video I modify my Delta Cruzer miter saw. This technique will work with just about any miter saw and works best with a shop vac or other high static pressure extractor.

Great idea, great video. And congrats on getting mentioned by Travis on ShopNation channel. 💪👍
Thanks Mark! I've been working on this problem generally for multiple years, there's a much better video on miter saw dust collection (a deep dive) if you're interested.
This is an AMAZING idea. My 12” Dewalt spews dust everywhere. I’ve attempted complex hoods without much success. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. I hope to see the detailed video soon.
Thanks Richard! This was actually only a functional protot-type; I've since improved it with a direct plastic replacement of the stock port/chute that works even better! I will certainly do a detailed video as soon as I can and have a few other videos on the topic if you're interested!
As always a great idea!
Thank you
What a great idea! I've seen so many videos of people making big plastic attachments but all you can do with those are 90 degree miters and most don't work for sliding miter saws. This is the best idea I've seen and look forward to using it. I was trying to find this video again after several months. Subscribed!
Thanks for the kind words, glad to help!
I"m definitely going to try this style of shroud on my 15" Hitachi. Using a nylon zip tie for a spring is a great idea.
Thanks, Chris. Best of luck!
Welcome back! RLTW!
Thanks, ATW!
Looking forward to the updated design on this. I have the 10" version of the Cruzer. Can you speculate on how well your design will fit on the 10" version?
Hey Joe, I'm not sure how my specific design will fit on the 10" without measuring. The concept definitely applies and has been adapted to a number of different saws!
It's insane that manufacturers haven't done this on their saws.
Completely agree. There are definitely trade offs, but they definitely don't go for the level of effort that they could/should. Dust is a health risk and a job site customer happiness issue when you bring a saw indoors on a customer's property
chris first i would like to say thanks for your service second if you do come up with a dust collection system for the cruzer that works i would be willing to pay for it thanks joe
Joe, here is my solution:

great video, thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of getting the delta cruiser saw, what do you think of it so far? how is the side to side play when fully extended effect the cut?
Thanks, Pete. It feels as solid as any linear bearing slider I've used. If there is any play it's basically negligible. I'll check it out and see if I can quantify the deflection and let you know
Hey Chris, looks like something I have to try on my saw, the dust collection is horrible on the cruzer , just wondering what you are using for dust collection. I'm using a Makita dust extractor without great results with the stock setup.
Dale, I'm using a generic "5HP" shop vac with Mullet M5 separator. Your Makita likely has better performance metrics. Focusing the extraction stream close to where the chips are exiting the workpiece seems be the trick.
How do you like that delta cruzer? I'm looking at possibly getting the rigid version.
Really like it so far, wish I would've known about the Rigid, could've saved over $100. Worst saw I've ever used for dust collection, but best saw I've used for cut capacity.
Is the 3d printed Chute you sell the same as the Shop Nation Chute? I have the SN Chute already.
Steve, ours is not the same, it's better (in my biased opinion) Thanks for watching/asking! Travis designed a functional product based on this video and my advice to him. The 3D print+liner was my planned way forward for several years. I have not done a comparison, but it looks like ours has smoother contours (less air friction loss) and a unique tool-less way to hold the rubber. We may have a wider range of functional angles and workpiece clearance on our s also, but I'm not sure without testing. We're all constrained by the same saw geometry and intended function, which is why there are similar features.
Any issues when fence is close to blade?
Tony, there are definitely some limitations associated with that to allow the shroud to pass through the fence. Being flexible allows it to move , but it has to be open enough to not contact the blade or guard.
Chris. I seen a short take video on a dust collector chute I think you made. It’s a blue colored chute that was one piece fitting a Delta Cruzer. The one that come with mine was broken and it seems yours worked very well. How can I get one of these??
Leonard, thanks for asking. I sell them on my Etsy page: bio.link/benchtopwoodworks?fbclid=PAAaZV70aX5SSMzrXKNptXAjxoq7TP4Q8h9Xwn-fTiAWkT-CRkDmwYKeszKk8
@@benchtopwoodworks Thanks Chris. I did find it on Etsy and have one ordered.
Oh great, pardon. I did not see it come through on my end, but I do have several orders I'm processing currently.
@@benchtopwoodworks Chris did you by chance see my order come through? I never re icees an email confirmation so not sure if it’s ordered or not??
Leonard, I do not have an order from you in my que. Please pardon my delay and thanks for following up! Here's a direct link: www.etsy.com/listing/1296322729/12-delta-cruzer-26-2251-and-ridgid-r4251
Feel free to email me at benchtopwoodworks@gmail.com if you need help. I'll see that before youtube comments.
Does this shroud work for mitered and beveled cuts?
Yes it does. It compresses around the fence
@@benchtopwoodworks Is a model available for purchase to fit Dewalt non-sliding saw DWS706?
