  • The Space Marines are advanced far beyond humanity, but they are not invincible. For some who fall in battle, their service is not yet complete, and they can be entombed into a Dreadnought to continue to fight.

    Librarian Dreadnoughts : _when even overkill is not enough._
    But I wonder how they are able to keep their psychic powers while Grey Knight Dreadnoughts can't. Perhaps a quirk from Sanguinius' genome ? :/

    One of the many incongruous things in the Warhammer 40k universe that I have mused over is why mortally wounded astartes are interred into clumsy, crude dreadnoughts, when many of the higher ranked adeptus mechanicus are able to replace virtually all of their flesh with finely articulated and sophisticated mechanical bodies. Couldn't the same thing be done to the mortally wounded astartes, which would make them more nimble and effective warriors and prevent them from losing their minds (which seems to happen to most dreadnoughts over time)?

    • @spacewolfblackmane19
      @spacewolfblackmane19 Před 5 lety +4

      That is mostly a question of, time, logistics, and politics. A near dead barely stable Astarties must be intured quickly and dreadnought are usually on hand to be used. Most chapters have bionics available but only Basic ones not the type that can save one who got their chest blown open.
      Second even then the only ones with the knowledge, let alone the means to make use of thos technology are the tech priest of very high station. And as well know they are loathed to impart their knowledge on to anyone not like themselves, hense why must tech marines only know the most basic of information to keep their war gear running and functioning and nothing more. Not to mention that the tech is likely super rare and probably heretical. I mean volkite weapons are still a thing, and more are still made but aside from the body guards of the F.G of Mars and a select few inquisitors and Capter masters they are practically extinct, because of how difficult and how long they take to make.
      All of this is not to mention just how reluctant the priest hood of Mars, is to being on call when they have their own interests to see to.and as such only the most favorite of chapters that closely match their beliefs have a chance to make it back with anything the most basic of stuff. The Iron hands for example are roomed to have all machine leaders, and are able to replace large amounts of their bodies with mechanics, but that is only because they specialize in that field.
      All of this is not to mention that dispite their looks, they are highly effective and depending on the pattern able to be highly mobile.

      White Scars used bionics for all available instead of dreadnoughts
      Most hated it because you trade mobility for being alive, at least as a dreadnought you get to be a walking tank of death

  • @jcmoore383
    @jcmoore383 Před 5 lety +1

    Bjorn the Fell-Handed in the battle of the Fang survived since he was knocked off a cliff, he did not command the Wolves in the battle and of course he didn’t get onto the Chapter Master as he died in the ensuing fight against Magnus.

    • @TacticaImperialis
      @TacticaImperialis  Před 5 lety

      I thought he led the initial defence of the Fang until the remainder of the Chapter got back? Or did I misremember something - if so, I apologise. And yes, the Great Wolf did die now that you mention it - my mistake, though I assume he probably made sure the successor wasn't going to fall into the same trap.

    • @jcmoore383
      @jcmoore383 Před 5 lety

      Tactica Imperialis it was Vaer Greylock who led the defenses and also awakened the dreadnoughts, he was a wolf lord who died by Magnus before Bjorn joined fought him who was then knocked off a cliff and Chapter Master Harek Ironhelm took over the fight against Magnus them both going over the cliff, Ironhelm died in that fight so great was the damage to Magnus’s physical form that he couldn’t remain in real space afterwards, Magnus had already destroyed the labs for the Successor chapters and killed the wolf priest

    Dreadnoughts are awesome :D Well the "death" that leads to the entombment is terrible, as well as their fate to come, but overall those machines are awesome :>
    Oh the mindset about "becoming a dreadnought is the worst thing that may happend to a Space Marine" is shared by Gray Knights too, as they would rather die and be set in the catacombs of Titan rather then become a dreadnought. Well their lifes are complicated with all that demon fighting :S Great video, thanks for sharing!

      newer lore seems to indicate they are either descendants from either the lost members of the Raven Guard Corax sent into exile before the heresy or Loyalist Night Lords that went into exile
      Their mythology seems to indicate their first leader "The Forgotten One" took the mission of patrolling the void until being recalled by The Void Father (AKA The Emperor) the Ancient Ones are the oldest members of the chapter, they seem to be Contemptor dreadnoughts

  • @Doomseer

    I think it's of course insanely badass Bjorn actually faced Magnus the red and even put up a good fight but I mean come on there is no way in hell a regular astartes or even one interred into a dreadnaught could possibly face a demon Primarch. I swear GW nerfs the demon primarchs just so imperial forces can stand a chance when in reality it would take a whole battalion of custodes/grey knights or a straight up imperial saint to actually stand a chance against Magnus.
