  • The Word Bearers are the original heretics, the first to fall to Chaos during the Great Crusade. Led by Lorgar Aurelian, they caused swathes of destruction during the Horus Heresy. This is their story.

    Erebus: the first traitor, and responsible for the entire Horus Heresy... despite kind of sucking. These are scenes that almost literally happened during the Horus Heresy novels:
    Interex: You stole one of our secret weapons!
    Horus: No we didn't!
    Erebus: Yeah, why would we steal the Anathame?
    Magnus: Horus, don't listen to him! He's lying to you!
    Erebus: No, Horus, don't listen to him! That's not really Magnus, it's a shapeshifting daemon!
    Magnus: *Shoots lightning at Erebus*
    Erebus: Look! He's using sorcery when the Emperor commanded him not to! You can't trust him.
    Horus: I thought you said he was a shapeshifting daemon. The Emperor commanded a shapeshifting daemon not to use sorcery?
    Erebus: Uh... I might have been lying about that part.

      Having read and listened too virtually every HH novel, audiodrama, etc. I think any notion of Erebus or Kor Phaeron having any real influence over any of the traitor Primarchs is laughable. Spoiler: Kor Phaeron drops a bombshell at the end of the Primarchs "Lorgar" novel. Lorgar had been using Kor Phaeron virtually the entire time. There are numerous hints of this throughout the book.

      @@WordBearer86 Erebus was slick, you can see how he gets the Luna Wolves on his side with the lodges, sparring in the cages, etc. and the Primarchs were weak, each in their own way. And frankly, the sons of Horus are mostly idiots, and same with the Emperors Children. I dont think manipulating either of those legions would be rocket science. Erebus got Typhon on his side by teaching about the Warp. You have to realize, the Warp was sort of "helping" Erebus manipulate these warriors and Primarchs and he was playing to their weaknesses. The books show that. Besides, it didn't take long for them to get sick of him anyway, after a few fuckups, like Signus Prime and Calth (and of course, killing Argel Tal didn't help his popularity)

    Good summary of the Word Bearers. Only thing to point out is you say you couldn't find a loyalist Word Bearer. Look up Barthusa Narek. He first appears in Vulkan Lives and then again in The Unremembered Empire. Basically he's a Word Bearer who is pretty disgusted at how Lorgar has debased and dishonoured the legion by embracing Chaos, and hatches a plan to kill Lorgar and therefore restore the honour of the Word Bearers.

The nature / nurture question of the primarchs personalities is so important here because if, as I believe, Lorgar was built to look beyond the secular truth, then why the hell did the emperor make him and treat him so badly?

  • @donraccoonisoverlordofther9341

    Actually, when Kairos's heads spoke to Lorgar, one lied and one told the truth. By claiming that sparing Guilliman will ensure the victory of chaos, one head lied, since Chaos ”lost” the siege and the war, when the other spoke truth, since it allowed for the stalemate of the last 10k year, which Chaos wanted. Thus, Kairos's heads just did their usual business, one lying and one being truthful. Chaos, and especially Kairos, are all about the duality of things. A word spoken/contract signed can be turned 180 instantly.
    And vice versa: if Lorgar had killed Guilliman, the Ultramarines propably would not have regrouped, Horus might not have made the shield gambit and the traitors might have won. If so, and if the theory is correct, Horus would have, out of shame and spite, engineered a war so bloody as to eradicate humanity from the galaxy, thus denying the gods their primary food source (as humanity was heavily invested into by them) and thus, resulting in the defeat of Chaos.
    Thus, it was either defeat then victory or victory then defeat. Kairos spoke both two lies and two truths.

      I believe it was the truth. Chaos pretty much won the Heresy if you think about it, and killing Guilliman would have nulled the Imperium Secundus which would in turn mean Lion and Sanguinius would’ve taken their legions to Terra to help out thereby winning the war for the loyalists.

    Part of me feels bad for Lorgar, but I do agree, he and the Word Bearers are so bland. I do also question WHY Big E didn't smack Lorgar's hand a few more times before Menarcia (spelling?) to ensure his zealous son didn't go to Chaos, but sometimes subtly doesn't work, I suppose.

    • @Sigismund697
      @Sigismund697 Před 7 lety

      Monarchia, and he did keeping his Custodes around him but Chaos/Erebus work with subtlety so before they knew it they had possessed marines attacking them
      also the highly controversial Master of Mankind sees the Emperor explaining how he assumed the Primarchs would realize Chaos was dangerous on it's own by the known treats both warp travel and astropaths/navigators had which were common knowledge even if they didn't know it was daemons.
      he even goes saying that if it would've made any difference if he just called them daemons instead of "xenos from the warp" which was the colloquial term.

      Nathan Marcano you didnt read the books did ya. nigga argel yal and erabus also lorgar are great characters with depth. its helps you understand the background if 40k. that infact it is a unuverse with gods and an afterlufe except gods are evil. know this like the big e knew and shit gets real real soon. while other legions like space wolves are going on their lives without a clue what the the primordial reality is. hence why the eldar failed as a civilazation . they couldnt handle the fact that hell was real and demons were god.

    damit man what are you and what are you on? Your character image is a tau earth cast scientist in a battle suit, but you are saying here you are on a craft world, which can't get even remotely near a demon world, and what is "translating a craftworld"? They can't go into the webway in most places, to dam big, and the warp is just straight up suicide. Craftworlds can only move at sub-light speeds so its not like you can quickly fly away from a system.

    • @TacticaImperialis
      @TacticaImperialis  Před 7 lety +2

      Derpacis it's a small craft world, and being earth caste (and psychic - just roll with it) i was able to modify a few things. Admittedly, I should have looked more into how craftworlds actually work, but hey, fan fiction doesn't always have to make 100% sense as much as I follow canon otherwise

    I don't know if you are handed a script of what to read on your videos, but in almost everyone, you are missing so many key components to the stories. Don't know if you just started down this path, but you aren't as well rounded as you should be on these subjects.
    Oh, and btw, the emperor was NOT concerned about the worship by the Word bearers. He was concerned by the amount of time spent in compliance of the conquered worlds.
    His efficiency was extremely low compared to all his brothers and the Emperor wasn't having it.

    For a being that’s supposedly a super-genius Lorgar failed to make the obvious distinction between “they exist” and “they deserve worship”. He went straight to “they deserve worship because they exist”, which makes no sense whatsoever.
    Lorgar also seemed wedded to his “Chaos symbiosis” idea even though all extant facts said Chaos would never honor it.
