- On a handful of occasions, the Senatorum Imperialis or a Primarch has given the order for a new Founding of Adeptus Astartes. These Foundings replace the Chapters lost to war over the millennia, with the most recent Founding adding new ones and reinforcing the old with the Primaris Marines.

Just thought I’d comment that I like your content and the times when you express bemusement at certain points of contention in the lore. Makes it seem more natural than someone who would just do a pure reading of the lore. Cheers.
For the Salamanders I just head-cannon that they have successors, but they choose not to acknowledge them as such. The tenets of the Promethean cult encourages self reliance, so the Salamanders might fear the successors would just rest on the laurels of their predecessors, similar to some other chapters, instead of forging their own legacy.
*cough BLACK DRAGONS cough*
Adam remember the space wolves, salamanders, and alpha legion were the legions/chapters were not suppose to have successor chapters. This is due to their gene seed.
@@AR670 I'm not sure if that was one of the reasons for their isolation during the early crusade. That was mostly because Emps had secret objectives for each to carry out on top of crusading like espionage or acting as the lord's executioner. Additionally you could argue none were meant to have successors considering the legions might have gone the way of the Thunder Warrior if not for Horus.
Adam going over what the Black Library has put out so far; we do know that all three legions gene coding was manipulated to a far higher degree then any other. It's interesting to look at the possible options for those three if better gene management where involved. You make a solid point Adam; we don't know how the legions/chapters would have turned out at the end of the crusade. I think that would have depended on their role/primarch.
21 Founding is my favorite. Black Dragons, Sons of Antaeus, Flame Falcons FTW!
Nothing as terrifying than a 10-12 foot giant with antlers and bone spikes with dark skin and red eye.....
They aint Ultramarines.
Great video!
The 2nd founding must have only broken up the legions partially because of the small number of successors (relatively) and for the 3rd founding to have so many chapters which came directly from their parent legion (ie. Black Templars from Fists). It seemed that a tiered or gradual breakup of the legions was the plan.
I am glad that my Dark Angels always kept the breakup as a bit of a guideline, not a hard rule.
The Salamanders and Iron Hands will need to get some primaris successors here, wouldn't you think?
I think that there are a fairly large number of heretic legion sourced chapters were peppered in throughout the foundings. It is also my position that the reason that complete records do not exist is that Malkador's successors made certain to keep that unrecorded, so that loyalist sons of heretic primarchs had a place and a new identity. ("Why yes, Roboute is my daddy. Why do you ask?")
Very Informative like all your videos keep up the good work and good luck on future videos
1000 seems too low (although I believe the lore suggests you are correct) but 1000 chapters of 1000 would be 1,000,000 total marines, but the Great Crusade had more than double that. Seems like it would be unwise to have less since it would be harder to maintain the Imperium with lower enforcers, but I always felt Girlyman's abilities were over stated.
Rowboat Gorrillaman knew that the Guard would be able to hold the line 90% of the time, and when the Guard can’t do it the Marines are called in. Later on the Sisters of Battle helped reduce the need for Astartes too. It’s easy to forget that the Guard isn’t entirely composed of incompetent nobility and barely-trained conscripts. There are tons of regiments that are actual badasses, plus the Tempestus Scions, and the Inquisition’s stormtroopers. With the bulk of reconquering the galaxy already done, baseline human forces can hold it together with less help from Astartes.
Did you forget half that 2 million turned traitor?
thanks for covering this one
Right about the time I think this day was a lost cause, a little hope shines through. Thank you for a timely posting.
Pretty Sure the fists have a another one Thunder Lords? Maybe?... Thunder Kings? Idk. Btw I'm pretty sure that Ultima is a nickname like Cursed and Dark or Sentinel
Lucas the Trickster up next?
What would the Dragonkin from the Black Dragons profiles look like? I imagine them being similar to the Blood Angels Death Company, crazy strong in close combat like 2 attacks each at strength 5 with a 3+ armour save and 6+ feel no pain to account for their stronger skeletons therefore allowing them to suffer more hits and live
Next champion would appear to be a Mr Blackmane from the sounds of it, it'll be excellent.
@9:35 - FOR THOSE WE CHERISH, WE DIE IN GLORY!
As an old gamer and space wolf tragic I expect big things from next weeks video
Thanks great post ! I've been looking for a vid that brings the disparate information of the various founding together... does anyone know of a black library 40k novel set around the second founding???
Ok, so the Primaries Marines from what I can tell actually number in the hundreds of thousands.
And were created over a time period of 10k years.
But they were produced in the dark on the down low.
I'm curious where all that gene seed came from? Was it synthetically produced? As it had some of the more serious genetic flaws removed from the bloodlines of a couple of the chapters.
Anthony Omes I believe you can turn bace gene seed into primaries seed as well as crawl having full access to all of the emperors labs and gene banks
Could you please make a video on the Red Hunters
I've had a look at what's available - I make no promises, but I'll see what can be done!
Purple armor. Sons of the Phoenix.
RoGaL dOrN
Will all be primaries marines from now on? Will the use only primaries gene seed now?
We don't know, hence why I raised the question toward the end of the video.
Which video did he talk about the Grey Knights geneseed in?
Mainly in my videos on the Grey Knights and the Exorcists.
Warhammer 40k lore is like math for me, so many numbers and I don't understand a shit. What's a founding? A bunch of chapters of space marines? What's a chapter, bunch of space marines from different planets/legions?
I thought the Grey knight came from different legions? So how can they have a sucssesor chaptor?
The original 9 Grey Knights did come from all over, but as I recall they have a unique gene-seed anyway so it isn't an issue that comes up.
@@TacticaImperialis The original 9 had a unique seed or everyone that came after?
The original 9 had their gene-seed replaced with the new one I think, and the time-bending shenanigans associated with Titan meant that they had a full Chapter trained when it came back into realspace that also had it too.
@@TacticaImperialis Thanks, though that seems crazy that it can be replaced like that.
What about the Rainbow Warriors?
Slaanesh Pretty Marines
gr8 subject choice. Your lore videos are alway awesome. GW should put u on the pay role.

Are you ever going to buy a new mic dude holy shit

The fact that primaris were imposed out of nowhere instead of initiated by the existing chapters with primaris gene seed ruins it for me. it is stupid
In my headcanon there are no primaris abonimations. The lore is so hamfisted and doesn't mesh with existing principles, that it can only be atorturing halucination cast upon the poor sleeping papa smurf by some dark eldar sadist.
