    For All of you DIY'ers remarking on how "easy" it would be using a spring compressor, GREAT. Do it how you enjoy doing. I've seen numerous spring compressors give way and fingers/thumbs being busted to mess with that unnecessary risk.
    This way is MUCH safer by simply removing 2 bolts and patience.
    Do it how ya like to do it.

      I tried a spring compressor. The long bolt you tighten to compress the spring was too long, therefore hitting the frame and not being able to compress it.

    That strut is shot, my man..notice how it didnt expand and you had to use the jack to align the hole? 😂😂😂

    Like the technique, looks a good hack for people without the spring compressor,
    would you think this would work on a 2006 W219/C219 CLS. Which I think,? has the same bits and bobs as an E class W211.
    I don’t see this technique as being a drama, if you take your time,
    like you did putting this little hack vid together for people,
    Nice job geeza.👍
    Love it even more if I can do the same job on my motor.🎉🎉

    If you use a spring compressor you do not need to release the strut or lower arm - it is so much quicker and simpler.🕊️

      you mean the mercedes specific type one where it goes through the bottom arm and screws up the middle of the spring? i think you still need to undo the inner bolt?!

      I have the Mercedes spring compressor . I try to show any repair I can without special tools if possible . I should have done the other side with the spring compressor to show the difference . 👍

      Just did mine with the Mercedes spring compressor. I Still had to unbolt and drop the arm. Not enough clearance.

    At 9:08 you remove the remnants of the lower spring seat, and never installed a new one. Its part # 204-324-01-84. Not good, that spring is just chafing on the control arm directly now. The divot you were looking for when re-installing the spring is what that seat piece is for. Its also extremely risky to jack the spring up into the car that way, if the arm slips off the jack that spring is going for a ride! Also the triple square bolt and nut you removed to do this job are spec'd as one time use by MB.

    Hi
    I changed them a week ago, but they make noise, I don't understand why the springs make noise when I drive the car

  • @darrensaltiel440

    why would mercedes not put a bottom spring shoe in that hole like in a b200 theres a top and bottom shoe so it wont make noise or shift metal on metal 🤔

    Hi
    I had my coils changed
    after 2 days I can now here a strange noise like metal against metal old battel ship noise
    the shop who changed them said they have to were in because the coil was brocken its been lower now it's sitting up higher it had to agust to fit in . Is that true?.
    And the said it may be the bushings need changing .
    Wouldn't they had seen them before if they need changing or is it because the suspension is higher its rubbing on somthing .
    What's your opinion please

    Thanks for your video.
    Would like to know if wheel alignment is required after this change? Thanks 😊

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před rokem +1

      No wheel alignment necessary unless you had it aligned with the original spring broken . Hopefully an alignment shop would check all suspension components before doing an alignment ( it’s supposed to be standard practice )

    • @stevehawkins6072
      @stevehawkins6072 Před 10 měsíci

      Wheel alignment should be carried out after any suspension work has been carried out. The springs should be replaced normally both sides because of ride height spring tension wear. However if you smart and on a budget.
      You can check the ride height after a road test to settle springs.
      Since none of the tracking bolts have been removed.
      Your options then is no steering pull, steering wheel still Centred
      No adverse tyre wear then
      It’s your choice your car. However I would only recommend you get a wheel alignment anything else will be against manufacturer specifications

    it looks like youre in canada and so am i but i am having a hard time finding the springs. Where did you buy it from?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před rokem

      I found them on eBay.uk
      nothing was available here in Canada except at ridiculous prices . From what I can find , All GLKs use the same rear springs , 350, 250 etc . The AMG package like the one that mine has was merely wheels and body kit , no suspension differences.

      I just did another search . Here’s the web page for Mercedes . At bottom shows fitment showing all models . But also shows a sale price of $95 . Possible deal if they will ship here

    Hi. Is the m12 bolt a threaded bolt with 18mm nut.
    My tripple square bolt has stripped I can't get nothing on it now.
    I was thinking, can I tap it out with a hammer, or does it needs to screw out as you used the electric gun.

    this is a ten minute job with a spring compressor thanks for your efforts but you spent more time remove / fighting with bolts unnecessarily

  • @darrensaltiel440
    @darrensaltiel440 Před 2 měsíci

    mercedes has a bad habit of not de tortioning (add proper nomenclature) springs after making them so you get exactly what you have there . a spring busted in three pieces.

  • @stevehawkins6072
    @stevehawkins6072 Před 11 měsíci +1

    You have just displayed a totally dangerous way to change the spring. There is a spring compressor you are supposed to use which is way the centre hole is in the wishbone. You Jack slipped once, you were lucky. The Jack slips out. Then the bolts on the bushes should be torques with the wishbone at ground level angle.
    Also lifting the spring with a Jack could move the vehicle off the Jack stand
