First Wash in 3 Years 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1

  • This is a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that was part of the North American Motor Car collection I was asked to restore prior to the RM auction later this year. 24 of the car show have been sitting in this warehouse for 3,5,10 and even 13 years unwashed and definitely not detailed. What's great about being hired to restore a huge collection, is that it's essentially a time capsule. These cars were all collected within (usually) a 2, 3,4 year period....then sort of forgotten. Why? I have no idea, but as the older generations reallocate assets, these collections keep popping up. Only 7 more to go in this particular collection! As you can see the paint is very dusty and is covered in swirls and medium depth scratches. The interior is dirty and has a few spiders and critters inside. The real trick to this car is adjusting techniques for single stage/clear coat paint versus matte paint. Afterwards I coated the soft paint with Reflex Pro and wheels and chrome in Gelee Pro before going for a drive....or burn out in a mach 1! Wooohooooo!!!!!

The 1969 has quad headlights, side scoops and had separated tribar taillights (the last one until 2015+) in 1970 they went to a dual headlight setup, replacing the outer lights with a slotted grille. the side scoop was removed for a sleeker look and the taillights were recessed into the taillight panel!

If you press it on the carpet using only enough force to stop the machine from spinning, the vibrations it gives off help remove sand and other fine particles with a vacuum.

The music at the 13:30 minute mark is very similar or the same as the montage music Mark Rober uses. I was kinda expecting a science experiment of some sort, but beautiful car and excellent work, watching your vids is always a great way to start my morning!

I cannot thank you enough for this video Larry! I've been fighting a couple wax spots on the matte hood of my '72 Mach 1 since last summer and NONE of the aftermarket products I've been recommended have been able to solve it completely. A little alcohol and water and now they're gone for good. I'll definitely be picking up some Reflex Pro to give that a shot and see how it comes out.

I had recently polished and coated my 1970 boss 302, it was really pain in the ass, because of the single stage paint and paint thickness you must really carefull what you do, the polishing stage where fine, and like the video said switch pads or clean them as much as you can, otherwise you going to create swirls,, I made a huge mistake I finished polishing and then i coated the mustang with 2 base layers and one top layer, and with the last one I used a different microfiber towel to take the residu away creating scrathes it was really painfull at the moment but a great learning moment, i measured the paint again and luckily i had some room left to polish the scrathces away, but in stead of coating again I went for a spray coating spray on and rinse off its not that great as a coating offcourse but for a few months it will help! This video helped me a lot to work on a old mustang, normally I work only with bmw's and the paint is really hard and easy to work with in comparison to a single stage soft paint!

I have the car running and in gear and I use my feet :) Love this video, thank you for sharing and I always learn something by either watching your videos, or you explaining stuff as you are doing it. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos.
