Most Disgusting Car Ever! Barn Find First Wash in 24 Years: Lost Bricklin SV-1

  • This is by far the most disgusting car I've ever done. A 1974 Bricklin SV-1 chassis #333 found in a barn in upstate CT. It wasn't moved in 21 years and was covered in bird poo and bird seeds. This is the brainchild of Malcolm Bricklin and #333 was thought to be lost. I found 4 mouse nests and the carpet was drenched in mouse urine. The smell was horrible. A full interior detail was completed by removing the urine covered carpets. No sense in shampooing gross carpets that were disintegrating as I scrubbed with carpet cleaners. Although sitting in a barn for 21 years, the Bricklin SV-1 compounded and polished out quite nicely. This is the first wash and detail it has received in 21 years. As a disaster vehicle restoration it contained dead animals, smelly, moldy, gross interior, that will be considered one of the worst interior disasters I seen because the owner left the door OPEN for all those years. There is a huge before and after satisfaction and gratifying reveal so watch until the very end as I reveal the freshly detailed Bricklin to the owner. Once done we applied AMMO Reflex Pro to the exterior for insane reflection and paint coating protection. For a full list of products visit www.ammonyc.com. Thx for watching! -L

I was QC supervisor at the assembly plant in Saint John, NB Canada when the first car rolled of the assembly line and was there when we got word that the plant was closing due to the Provincial Government no longer financing the manufacturer. I was in charge of inspection of the frame and body fabrication, engine and axle assembly. The bodies were acrylic molded over fiberglass, not painted. Everything was fiberglass except the tubular frame underneath, the passenger compartment and the gullwing door frames. The carpets were not green but a tan, matching the interior. It was a good idea to change from hydraulic to air system door openers that were changed by others years later. We had the occasional hydraulic line break during assembly testing which made a huge mess. Overall it was a beautiful, powerful car. i wish I had one.

Hold on... lets think about this a bit more. The guy buys the beautiful car, which even when new, was known for its quirkiness. As it said in the video, he moved a few times. I'd be willing to bet that 5 years after the car was built, it was virtually impossible to find anyone competent to work on it, or the parts necessary to fix the car. (This is pre-internet time.) The owner obviously liked and drove it, he bought new tires for it at one point! (The tire labels aren't from when the car was new - they are long gone by the time a new car gets to a dealership.) While I'd like to have seen the car cared for better too, at least the owner didn't leave it outside to rot, and he got in touch with Larry to have it fixed up. I'm gonna cut him some slack.

He rarely took it out of the garage, but he had a daughter my age and we used to car pool for various things so he would occasionally pick me up in it since he knew as a teenage guy I was into cool cars. Back in '74 a friend of my dad ran an Oldsmobile dealership and signed on to sell Bricklins. I was 8yrs old and remember going with Dad to see the first one in the showroom. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen - it looked like the future. It wasn't, of course, but I still have a fondness for Bricklins because of the memories they bring back. Good to see this one getting some love after years of neglect.
