Dirtiest Car Ever! First Wash in 20 Years Lost Pontiac Trans Am Rare 455 HO

  • This has been one of my pet-preservation-projects over the past few months. I wanted to create what I feel would be a fun "TV show for CZcams". This was shot over 9 days, 1200+ individual clips, and obviously a ton of car detailing disaster work. For whatever reason, the idea of rescuing or "preserving" a car for someone else to enjoy and rebuild is incredible satisfying. Anyhow, this is actually one of the dirtiest cars I've ever worked on which created a few interesting paint washing problems. The paint was so rough from sun exposure that the dirt was incredibly challenging to clean or remove from the surface of the paint. Likewise, Joe told me later that he has a few extra body panels in his garage that he and Buddy can use for the rust repair stage of the restoration. This was definitely the first wash in 20 years, but well worth the effort. Hope everyone enjoys! -Larry

As a diehard Pontiac fan, and an owner of 4 Pontiacs so far in my 37 years of loving the hobby, this is truly awesome to see. Not only a legendary, rare car gets semi revived, but the bond between father & son is unforgettable! I truly hope they decide to restore it and get it back on the road where it truly belongs. Nice to see the 455 roar back to life!! My favorite Pontiac I had so far was my '70 GTO in Cardinal Red with Black interior. I rebuilt the motor in High School Auto Shop class, and had it buttoned up/finished at a speed shop. Drove it for 3 years, and loved every minute! Pontiac Forever.. Gone but not Forgotten!

I am life long Pontiac lover. You found a rare and very desireable "HO" High Output 455?! There is no way this should of been thought of as crusher material. This car was one of the few Heavy Breather Pontiacs that was produced at the tail end of the Muscle Car era! The "HO" had bigger valves in the heads and a longer stroke engine than the standard 400 cube engine. The idea behind it was to try and recapture proformance that was lost from just a few years earlier (peaked in 1970) due to lower compression ratios that helped smog but killed proformance. That HO is a "Holy Grail" rare Pontiac that has incredible potential. Some exhaust work, a big cam, etc. and this car was hard to beat! I love it!

Around 2004, I was at an auto parts store in Jersey along route 10, near Whippany where I worked at the time. There was pristine 1972? With an SD 455. The owner was a retired pilot. He had factory spec'd the car in order to prepare for the gumball rally, which ended up being canceled due to the gas crisis. Route 80 was still being built out, and he and his buddies would due speed and gas consumption trials on it, before it was completed.
