  • This side of Tunisia will have you pondering whether you just teleported to Europe when you walk through the streets of Sidi Bou Said. This incredible place is commonly compared with places like Santorini Greece, but the best part is is that it is less touristy and better priced than Greece! Welcome to Sidi Bou Said. In this video, me and the British legend @harryjaggardtravel take you with to explore this area, purchase a few items, try some local food and meet some locals.

This was one of the coolest places I have seen in Tunisia, such a beautiful place with the contrasts of blues and the coastline. This makes me want to explore so much more of Tunisia. I am curious where else I should go in the country. Drop your recommendations here.

The ruins of Carthage if you are into ancient civilizations. More touristy places like Hammamet, Nabeul and Sousse. The amphitheater of Al Jem. Cap Angela, the northernmost point in Africa. Jerba, Tozeur, the star wars filming site and very probably I have forgotten a few.

23:40 café des délices is the not a place to dine in. Usually people go there before dinner to drink tea and to see the view. Ordering a small snack like bricks which is a typical Tunisian appetizer would’ve been a good choice. BTW kabob or whatever plates with meat meat skewers, is not Tunisian food. There are many good Restaurants around there if you are looking for good food, maybe next time get advice from locals. Anyway, I had a LOT of fun watching your video from Chicago, you guys are hilarious and so adorable! ❤

The story told by your British friend about Sidi Bou Said is not true. There was no British king of Sidi Bou Said. The story is that a British "Sir" was living in Sidi Bou Said in the begining of the 20th century (an Aristocrat from the elite of British society named Sir by the Queen of the Britain) as this British fallen in love for this little town. The town of Sidi Bou Said has been created four centuries ago. But before it's creation It was first the place of habitation of a Muslim Saint called BOU SAID, and the word Sidi in arabic that means "Sir" has also another meaning that is "SAINT". At the time of The life of the Saint, Sidi Bou Said was just a Mountain and there were no buildings at all. The saint Bou Said choosed to isolate himself in that Mountain and to devote his life for the worship of Allah (God). After he died, a Mausoleum had been made for him in the place where he was worshiping God on the mountain and it is still existing, it's on the top of the Mountain. Later, people became coming living on the Mountain and building houses because they believed that the Mountain became blessed by God as a Saint lived in and had been berried in. About the coulours (the white & blue) there is many explanations: some say like your friend said, some other say that this because of a jewish influence as some Tunisian jewish lived in the the town. Other say that the town became in blue & white at the time of the world war 1 to avoid that the town become bombard because those two colors make the military aviators don't see the town during the night

Sidi Bousaid used to be religious town, where religious people gather to pray and stay away from the materialistic capital to seek some quietness and spirituality. Sidi Bousaid is called the town of 400 saints, because 400 saints are burried there. The legend says that the steps all the way down to the port are actually tombs of 355 saints, the 5 other saints are burried in other places in sidi bousaid.
Sid Bousaid was named after a saint, bousaid: Sidi (saint) Bousaid

The café des délices is a more of a tourist trap. It got a lot of publicity after a famous french singer, Patrick Bruel, made a song about it and about Tunisia in general, a nostalgic song. The view is stunning, though one would just order a coffee or a cup of tea there, then just enjoy the view. Live and learn as they say.
We hope to see more videos about Tunisia in the future from you. As I understand you have been there in July. There are many things to see in Tunisia outside of Tunis. B.t.w you did very well with the now-infamous medina scammer 😂

Mac, Yes in Arabic culture (free lunch) is genuine and 100% free and it's an honor for the gifter if you accept their gift, I think it's time to find the British legend Arabian girlfriend to catch up with your Arabic, Imagine you speak to him in Lebanese and he answers back in .... Lets say Egyptian or Moroccan that'll be awesome
