If it was Star Wars Episode 10, I doubt Dune 3 would have gone there, but since it's a Star Wars standalone, they probably looked at Solo's box office and were like "yeah, we got this."

Yeah but both Dune movies have received better reviews than anything Star Wars has put out in years. I think it could go either way to be honest.
Star Wars is completely cooked. It’s been way too bad for way too long. Dune will crush whatever new Star Wars movie we end up getting.
Dune has goodwill going for it. Due to the majority of the Star Wars tv shows, the brand of Star Wars has soured because of mediocre (it's the best I can say), lackluster, and lazy storytelling. The last SW movie was so universally hated that I don't think a new SW movie based on any of its characters will get the hype train churning. Now, had Disney been planning to release a Darth Bane trilogy, that would have changed things.
If I had to choose max I rather go watch a Rey movie over Dune. I think both franchises sucks. Dune is boring to me.

You have to take the Barbieheimer approach and gave both studios co market it and make it an event.
I feel like Barbeinheimer was a freak of nature though; not really copyable. Nobody expected that. And a big part of its power was the fact that the two movies were polar opposites of each other. Dune and Star Wars... hardly.
I see a lot of people saying this, and I think they miss the point of what made Barbienheimer successful. It wasn't just two big movies came out at the same time. The point was it was two radically different movies coming out that allowed people to get a very different experience from each. Dune and Star Wars are way too similar for a Barbienheimer type event to work.

I dont think this is going to be Dune Pt. 3. Denis has said he wants to take a break from Dune. Hearing A LOT of talk that this is Rendezvous with Rama, which would have a shorter turnaround time than Messiah
It will be a break he is will be taking all this year 2024 off and will start shooting in 2025 the movie doesnt come out till 2026. And what movie would they want to go up against star wars??

Dune is the way better film franchise at the moment and it isn't even remotely a close contest, but assuming they do end up releasing on the same day I agree with your take. Dune is niche, brainy Sci Fi that only really appeals to adults, while Star Wars is far more accessible to general audiences and also suitable for families. Star Wars just has a much bigger audience potential despite the Dune films being way better than any Star Wars film made in the 21st century.

@nervenllarena4948 kids and teens love the sequel trilogy... a continuation to that will out sell a 3 hour dialogue heavy Dune 3... in the demographic 10 to say 40 age range.
Even I loved Dune part 2... but i admit I'm Nerd and I follow back stage politics and industry news... 99% of ppl who go to movies don't read the books or follow what's going on behind scenes. They will say ooo a new star wars... it's been years I wonder if its any good? Or O another Dune movie

Star Wars needs to move for He Who Points The Way.
The way I see it, If anything, announcing Dune for that date is a power move kinda. If Star Wars moves, it shows Disney is most likely not confident enough in that brand the way they used to be to go against the franchise that’s been basically its rival forever. Which wouldn’t help Disney’s cases of believing they’re putting out their best content. If it doesn’t move though, I’m not saying it will, but there’s a chance Dune could beat a Star Wars movie since it seems Like interest is so much higher in that right note regardless of brand power. If that does happen, it’ll be a W (if it beats it, even slightly) either way for WB I think.

I remember when Dune Pt. 2 was supposed to have come out last December but because of the writer's strike, it had to move until the spring of 2024. Folks was worried that it wasn't going to bring in a lot of money based on them moving the movie, however, after the success of it coming out in the spring, it clearly shows that the film would've done well rather if it was released December 2023 or April 2024. I don't feel that that Warner Brother's will move this movie. One thing that I can also say is that even though Star Wars is known for having it's films come out December, May 4th is also considered Star Wars as well. If they move the Star Wars Movie, then they may have it open May 4th. Time will certainly tell as to what will happen...

I really enjoyed Dune & I understand the times are a-changing, but even "Solo: a star wars story", the black eye of the franchise (which i still really enjoy) had a bigger opening weekend than Dune part 2 domestically. Dune's highest high could not eclipse Star Wars' lowest low. (Not counting the animated cline wars movie).

I happen to agreed unless they change that whole angle of the book, I don’t think audiences will be into that idea of Dune 3, plus let’s face it Dune is not a billion dollars franchise (in singular movies) I think the roof of dune will be in the 700million, specially if Dune 3 sticks close to source material.

ive been saying dune 2 is the best movie ive seen in the last 10 years since i saw it. but i just said that to not say all time or 20 years or whatever cuz i couldnt remember a movie in the last decade i saw better... so i checked what was in 2014 and saw that i was wrong in thinking it was 2013 but sure enough it HAS been 10 years since ive seen a movie as good as dune 2.. and thats cuz it was in 2014 when interstellar came out lol

I honestly feel that Star Wars would move because they don't want any competition. ESPECIALLY since Star Wars and Disney is not looking too hot in a very long time. Think about it, why did Disney/Marvel moved their Fantastic Four release date away from the new Superman movie? They don't want competition.

I really enjoyed the last SW trilogy. But they still don't hold a candle to Dune 2.
Both will possible beaten by another movie that will be released in September/October 2026. Bond 26, whyle it always be possible it wil released in 2027 so long it be les then 6 years and you stil can say 5 years since NTTD.
Starswarz is more May or July movie. Possible even Dune 3 wil move to March 2027.

Context also matters; in todays environment with all the Promotions, advertisement, and prestige Star Wars has today; Having the biggest drop in percenrage in Franchise History in today's day and age is a lot more taxing then when the films IP was just starting to establish itself in the early 80s
