This is insane from Marvel when their biggest hits have been from the Russo Brothers
They are two of the most overrated movie creators I think I've ever seen. We've seen the mediocre trash they create when they don't have 50 producers and writers making them look good
But its not like the mcu was something they built
@@stevehydeii3685yea they didn’t have anything to do with the success 😂
It would have been a hit whether or not they directed it . Plus I doubt a tenthpole film like Avengers they had full creative control.
A dog could’ve directed avengers 3 and 4 and it would’ve ended the same. Wtf are we talking about?
People complain about the current state of Hulk but forget that it was the Russos who neutered him in the first place. They flatout admitted that they did it to raise the stakes of Endgame. Not to mention it wasn't just them that worked on those films. It was also the excellent writing of Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
They didn't write the script
@@riddim there are certain ideas that the directors get the final say so on though. Smart Hulk was their decision and stated they didn't know what to do with him.
@@RandomBlackGamerdo you feel like smart hulk is a permanent thing? I'm not saying I prefer it over angry hulk, but it made sense narratively that Bruce finally could control it considering what happened in avengers 1, and after Thanos neutered him as well 😂 but I think they could bring the real hulk back out and it still make sense for Bruce's arc. At least I hope
Disrespectful I’m sorry. I would have never let the Russo brothers go or Ryan Coogler. I would have locked all 3 of them in for the next 10 years and they can release there passion projects on Hulu20th century. Phase 4 would have been better with them
Thank you for including Coogler. Even if Black Panther 2 was a step down it was still one of Phase 4’s best.
Pretty sure they left by their own accord & this is an unconfirmed rumor that people are quick to believe
Winter soldier is still my favourite mcu movie.
If anyone says Civil War is their favorite Marvel film I respect their taste. If they say Infinite War is their favorite I look down on them a bit.
It’s an issue of choosing story and character development over flash and action.
Such an odd decision as having them back would generate hype and interest to struggling MCU.
21 Bridges was awful??? How? I love that movie.
Their budgets may be out of control but the Marvel movies they've directed have made a killing at the box office for the studio.
I think the Russos might be better utilized on Avengers 6: Secret Wars. That is going to be a massive ensemble cast, and the way they successfully handled all the working parts in Infinity War makes me believe they could pull it off, where I don't have confidence many others could.
RIP Marvel. They’re worth the money. My excitement for the MCU was low, now it’s non existent other than Deaspool
The Russo Brothers made the 4 GREATEST MCU films PERIOD!! Infinity War and End Game are MASTERPIECES!! Winter Soldier and Civil War are AMAZING!!! MCU is drowning right now. They need the Russo brothers.
Nah
Those 4 films were also writing by a duo of writers that they're not with Marvel anymore. That talent is not there so they will not hire The Russos on their own. Marvel's directors were like TV directors with not that much freadom of creative control.
21 bridges was not that bad. I enjoy that one.
This obviously means there trying to move away from that era
Whaaaaaat?!? Those two have directed all of Marvel’s greatest box office hits!!!!!
Marvel is just asinine at this point!
true....but they were successful via MCU. After endgame....their movies have not been good
Both Extraction films were awesome.
They didn't direct those films. Sam hardgrave did.
@@178fluffy I’m aware, John also commented on films that did not direct.
New moderator fits well. She is really good. You can tell she’s done this professionally.
For most people 4 of their movies make up the top 5 of the best Marvel movies
Time for Russo Brothers to join James Gunn's DCU and produce reboot of Justice League for DCU fans.
Nah James Gunn would toss their resume after looking at what they have done since Endgame
As directors OR Producers, John? Didn't they produce Everything Everywhere All At Once? You said you loved that movie!
If Deadpool 3 is as amazing as we all hope, maybe the rumored Shawn Levy might be the one to direct Avengers.
Save the Russo Brothers for X-Men movies.
I was thinking the same thing. They're great at handling a large cast.
Don't be surprised if they go to DC now lol
James Gunn is gonna scoop them up & pitch them with a big project.
They publicly said they wanted to do the new dcu Batman film, but Gunn gave it to Andy Muschietti. They havent really seemed interested in anything else DC publicly.
"Crack is one hell of a drug."
Marvel 😂
LOLLLLL
Kevin Feige's arrogance. This movie could have been good
Feige isn't funding these movies. Iger is.
Unfortunately, Russo brothers' styles are pre-2019. It no longer fits Disney's style, which is pleasing fans.
Disney is only focused on pleasing a certain group of fans. They are loosing by doing all this pandering....
Pretty sure if Disney worried about pleasing fans they wouldn’t have such a drastic lower fan rating.
@@majorlazor5058 yeah... i meant Russo Brothers' style is to please fans andit no longer fit Disneys business strategy.
@@Guzmania gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.
@@zshakurYou’re so worried about “pandering” that you can’t even spell losing* correctly
The Russo Bro films have been the THEE best films in the MCU! pair them with the writers, Marcus and Mcfeely!
That’s good, their directing is grey, flat and 90% green screen
They've made the best movies in the MCU. Not only that, but Infinity War and Endgame are two of the biggest movies of all time.
@@Jamyes9909 they directed them sure but they didn’t write them
@@lukelaps9298 Did you watch a special directors cut of their movies? And your comments would be a textbook example of moving the goalposts.
All the Marvel movies that the Russo’s directed also had the same 2 writers .
@@mikeglass2460They honestly should consider reuniting both teams (the Russos Bros and writers Marcus & McFeeley) for Avengers 6: Secret Wars.
That budget excuse is a load of BS. An absolute steaming pile.
Watch Feige hire a Disney + TV show director instead of the freaking Russo Brothers for Avengers 5. Literally every single Marvel film's budget goes way up these last few years, but the Russos brothers doing it would suddenly be bad? And there's an old saying, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Russos may not had success outside Marvel, but they've been successful with Marvel projects every single time. You need them Feige, you can't hire a Disney + dude for such an important film, or anyone who's worked on these last subpar films these last few years.
It’s not that they just didn’t have success after Endgame, they’ve put out very lackluster content since, no studio should be too confident in them at this point
They literally talked crap about working with Marvel a year after Endgame came out. I wouldn’t expect them back. Talent talks and money walks.
Womp womp
I'm sure the Wachowski sisters are in talks.
😂😂😂
Everything the Russo Brothers have done since Avengers: Endgame has been a complete failure
I think the screen writing team for the next avengers movie will be more important than who directs it
4/4 is just insanely good. All I’m sayin.
21 bridges is definitely underrated, it’s not Awful John, might not be your cup of tea but awful? Respectfully disagree
I agree
Agreed.. I enjoyed it..
I agree...
Directors in mcu are largely swappable. So much of the story and character build in Marvel are built up by Feigie and others.
I totally disagree. Eternals and Black Panther 2 both has rough and rushed productions. But Coogler made a decent film while Chow made one of Marvel’s worst films ever.
Why are we suddenly acting like Marvel has been smart with their movie budgets. Bomb after bomb, but suddenly the budget is a problem to a proven Marvel producer.
"Bomb after Bomb". Ummmm... you do realize if you add up all the MCU movies they AVERAGE out to about $900 million per film in box office right? I'm curious what your definition of "bomb" is exactly.
@@johncampea Yeah in life time box office, this is not good overall, don't try to sugar coat it. the doc strange multiverse film was the closest they got to a billion WW (A non Sony partner movie) and that was in 2022.
@@johncampeaeveryone can tell that they haven’t been on strong legs with the exception of no way home and guardians 3. Everything else has been ass . Don’t lie to the people .
I think there is more to it why Disney said no to the Russo brothers.
Since theyve had so much success in the MCU, i bet they want to be paid with a big payday, probably upfront salary + ticket sales. And since Marvels movies have also had quite big budgets lately, they håpefully have learned and scale down abit. Keep it a bit more grounded/«real».
I also think that Kevin Feige doesnt want to give the Russos all the credit for the MCU.
But i bet the payday is a big deal. The Russos probably want a very lucruative contract.
I agree with your points. I do think the Russo's would have wanted a huge payday for their work alongside backend bonuses and yes I do think Kevin Feige doesn't want to keep using them for Avengers films as it means they'd get so much credit. I also agree with John their recent projects haven't been great and go way over budget.
Marvel is taking a page out of Jerry Reinsdorf's book...they're gonna look about as good as the Chicago bulls have looked since Michael Jordan...
THIS PART! 👆🏾
Winter Soldier is my favourite MCU EVER! What is Feige thinking?
It's all about the writing. Maybe they need to get the writers of the Russo's films. A shit story will still be bad with speilberg directing.
Why the hell would Marvel reject the Russo Brothers? They have directed some of Marvel’s most successful films
because marvel feels they replicate taking no name directors and have them create a great film.
@crispyfoxv ironic, cuz they've been doing this for the past 3 years and it's clearly not working and they are loosing money
The Russos did 21 Bridges, Grey Man, Extraction 1 and 2.. I loved em all
They mentioned in an interview they wanted to direct secret wars, I bet Marvel is aiming for that, will see, chillax people
Considering how genuinely awful their movies have been since Endgame, I think this is a very good thing honestly
But all of their movies IN the MCU have been top notch
@@MrRobertGillan to each their own, I just have a hard time seeing them making another good movie at this point
@@MrRobertGillan were they top notch due to their creative/talents as a director or did kevin have a lot of input and there was the comics they can get ideas from?
Huh?
Who cares about other projects? We know their record regarding Marvel. The hype alone is worth it. Playing D for Disney is pretty wild dude.
One thing we discovered about the Marvel films is that they wasted a lot of money on the CGI because they didn't plan the scenes ahead of time. Basically they fixed everything in post. And they redid entire scenes causing artists to do a lot of overtime. If they had planned scenes like Gareth Edwards did with The Creator then they would be way below budget.
It's all because Marvel tends to choose inexperienced directors for their projects, because most of the time it's Kevin Feige and the executives calling the shots creatively
They only want cheap writers and directors.
Russos gave them their highest grossing movies and also arguably their best movie in CA: TWS. If this is true, it's ridiculous. I'm apprehensive about seeing MCU films in theatres now. The Russos would get me in a seat for sure.
I've been apprehensive about it for a while now. There's no question that Winter Soldier is one of the best MCU films ever.
i think rejecting them was a mistake...they should have been Captain america 4 and other films to complete the arc. They have a vision, and frankly, marvel doesn't seem to have a good one yet.
Marvel has never been a director’s first studio. Nearly all of them are replaceable. Not surprised.
Huge mistake
The Russo Brothers served as producers for the Chadwick Boseman film
21 Bridges I enjoyed it. Outside of that yeah they been hit or miss
If it's budget concerns I completely understand. ENDGAME production budget was nearly 400 million. The Multiverse Saga has not been successful so a production of that size with Secret Wars Disney will lose money
The Gray Man 🔥
Who the fuck would pick Spielberg over the Russo's for an Avengers film, John? 🤣
I would.
@@Mupeta. Enjoy the Ready Player 1 of Marvel, then.
That is a gamble indeed. I Guess we’ll have to wait and see
I could've sworn you enjoyed Everything Everywhere All At Once. They produced that
They had nothing to do with the movie. They handed off the rights and kept a "producer" credit, but were not involved in the film in any way. That why they weren't on the stage when they won the Oscar.
@@johncampea Ahh, I see! How weird. Thanks for clarifying
Scaling back on the quantity of projects produced by Marvel frees Feige up to be a lot more hands on, like he used to be before phases 4 & 5. I think as long as Feige is driving the car it doesn’t really matter what director is navigating. I know it’s not the best analogy but you get what I’m saying
Yeah if Feige is hands on the project, it doesn’t really matter who the director is. They just need to coast with Feige’s guidance
I bet you the house that if it were Chapek in command and this story came out, it would be him in the wrong.
It's also important to remember that the Russos never had writing credits on their Marvel films either. Christopher Markus and Stepehen McFeely were responsible for those screenplays. So even if you did get the Russos back, they'd be directing Michael Waldron's script. IMO, I think any Avengers movie written by Waldron is in serious trouble, regardless of who's directing it...
I have to agree. His writing on MoM was very subpar, and you could literally track his thought process in his writing when struggling with having to combine the 3 main characters' stories in a logical way. Unfortunately, the end result was full of inconsistencies and illogical motivations that sacrificed character arcs.
Sad about this but I get it. I think they don't want to have to rely on them. If they bring them back and its another hit, then they would be alway asked to be brought back every time they fail.
Love the Russo bros and their 4 mcu films are all in my top 10 mcu films overall.
I imagine the combo of their rising budgets and who knows how much $ they might be asking to direct both salary + backend % although i love them.
James Gunn, please make the call.
Bro they better have turned them down for Secret Wars!!!😂
This makes me wonder what the Russos were like to work.
I feel like Marvel is keep something very secret about who they want for their director to direct Avengers 5 and Secret Wars.
It’s pretty shocking to look at the Russo Brothers’ filmography after Avengers: Endgame and wonder why most of them were disappointing. The best thing they did was producing Everything Everywhere All at Once and even in that film, their involvement was probably minimal. As for everything else…
Cherry (bad), The Gray Man (bad), 21 Bridges (bad), The Electric State (unknown)
As for the Extraction duology, it depends whether you think the action in those movies could compensate for the bland writing.
At least the hulk will be safe from them ruining him more
wasted 180 million on the crapolyte lol but yea dont give these guys the money smh
It’s actually the top 4 MCU films…
Honestly. Sam Raimi said he’d be up for it and I think he’d do a good job but I like him doing more dramatic and personal films.
Coogler has been one name that keeps coming up.
I’d definitely get Marcus and McFeely to write the screenplay for Secret Wars.
Look. In a perfect world, where I have all the power and money I’m seeing if James Gunn can do it and if he can’t because of his work in the DCU then Lord and Miller would be my picks
It’s absolutely ridiculous. They have done the best marvel movies. They way they brought all the characters in on Infinity war and civil war was brilliantly done
Maybe they want them for Secrets Wars. 🤔
The next Avengers movie should be about the cool team members that haven't been used in the films, such as Hellcat, Moondragon, Quasar, Captain Universe, Doctor Druid, Firestar, and StarBrand. So many great untapped characters can be found in the comics!
John, your point doesn't stand. What Russos did before Marvel? Nothing of the magnitude of CAWS/CACW/Infinity War/Engame. Previously, they did COMEDY tv series. So... As your taste for their latest movies, ok, I get it and I can respect that, but we're not on the same page, because I liked every single one of them.
Also, you said something that Disney doesn't like when a movie's budget starts spiraling, I really laughed. Yeah, ok, how about those 180 million dollars spend on their latest project named The Acolyte? The budget was ok for that? Maybe that's something else going on here. Maybe they want Russos for Secret War, I don't know. But you can't spend 180 millions of dollars on The Acolyte and at the same time say that you don't want Russos because the budgets of their movies exceed the projections.
Their budgets spiral out of control but so do their Marvel box office returns
The Grey Man was AMAZING
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Honestly. But for me it’s one of the worst big budget movies I’ve seen in the last few years.
@@johncampea It's a decent movie, but it's bland. I didn't feel anything while watching it.
@@ahmedfouzan2018yea I take what he says with a grain of salt.. I mean this the same guy that liked David Ayer’s Suicide Squad 😂
This is a bad decision. Avengers 5 needs to be their big budget film if anything. If they're worried about budget on that, might as well just pack it up and go home.
Marvel just keeps shooting themselves in the foot
Ah man. I liked 21 Bridges !
I’d love to see Christopher McQuarrie direct an Avengers film, he’s a director that can do set pieces in story, the action is well shot, he can direct ensemble team based characters and he is able to wrangle and collaborate with big stars.
From what I understand I don’t think he’d touch Marvel or anything like that but I think he’d be immense to do an Avengers film
Grey man and extraction 1 and 2 are Epic movies! Them Brothers make great Action Movies!
Whose the new question reader goood laawdyy😍
That's what I was thinking
Right! 😂
I doubt this rumor is true
They are saying Avengers 5. Avengers 5 isn’t Secret Wars. I still think they’d be great candidates for Secret Wars. That’s a trilogy right there if they want to do it justice.
It's Avengers: Eternity Wars, Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Forever
Hopefully they can come back
1) Dance with the one who brung ya
2) This ain’t the time to worry about budget. It’s the time to worry about reputation & legacy.
They didn’t do shit for them.
I doubt itll be that bad bc quantummania was shot under bob chepek and he took alot of creative power from kevin. So seeing that igor gave him his previous power back the movies will go back up in quality
I can see them being turned down for the Avengers so that they can do X-men. They'll be better used for X-men because the story for that will most likely be far more character driven where as both the Avengers movies will be more spectacle driven.
I liked Extraction II and The Gray Man.
They let it float soon after Endgame that they’d like to come back for a Secret Wars movie.
I seem to recall that they have been publicly critical of Disney a few times since they left, at least when Chapek was in charge. i don’t know if that is a factor
Good, let’s move forward
MCU cancelling themselves.
It doesn't even have to be sub-par. If it's just mid/meh Disney/Marvel will get tarred and feathered.
Extraction was pretty awesome .
I'm honestly glad you liked it. I thought it was horrendous. great action scenes, but barely better than The Acolyte overall.
I was gotta say, the Russo Brothers did a fine job producing/writing the Extraction films. However, all their other credited work after Endgame have been a wet fart imo.
@@johncampeanow you lost me putting it Above ‘the acolyte’ of all things
Marvel needs better writers
lets be honest....end game was full of fuckn plot holes the russo brothers couldnt answer granted they have given marvel their biggest hits they created holes that just are too big to ignore unless you choose to look away
I didn’t read all the comments, so if this has been said, my apologies.
The the great Russo bros movies had the same writers. Christopher Markis and Stephen McFeely.
That’s the duo Marvel needs to get. Then pair them with the Russo’s. That’s the recipe.
