Smart Trainer SRAM XD/XDR Freehub Conversion: Tacx NEO, NEO2, NEO2T

  • This video goes through switching a Tacx NEO 2T Direct Drive Smart Trainer over to XDR driver/freehub and cassette installation for the SRAM Force AXS 12 Speed bike I have on loan.
Note 1: With XDR the R is for ROAD (Red/Force). An XDR driver can be made XD compatible with a 1.85mm spacer for MTB/etc.
Note 2: If you're running a SRAM Eagle groupset with a long cage derailleur, you do have the option of using a NX or SX splined 11-50 cassette without needing the XDR driver. By removing the 10 cog there's no need for the smaller diameter XD/XDR driver and those are compatible with Shimano HyperGlide freehubs.

SRAM Eagle Cassettes on Amazon US (NX and SX are 11-50 HG): amzn.to/2QOkLzV

Thank you. For my Trek Madone SLR disc brake, I had to put a spacer after installing the XDR hub then put the drive side cap. This will create more space between the frame and cassette. On the non drive side I had to put 1mm spacer to have more space for disc brake caliper.

Hi Shane, any thoughts on why I may be getting cassette oscillation? I have a SRAM eTap FORCE AXS cassette (10-36 12spd) which has been working just fine on a Kickr Core and wanted to move it over to my Neo 2T. I have tried two different SRAM Hubs (T2875.76) and both oscillate ONLY when using the SRAM cassette. I know the cassette is true as (and basically new). Using a Shimano Ultegra cassette and hub leads to no issues on the NEO. Additionally, I seem to be unable to get into biggie smalls when using the required spacers on the NEO. Bike is a BMC Teammachine SLR02 Disc One for reference.

Hi Shane. Love your channel and great info. Here is a scenario set-up that doesn't work on my Neo 2T:
Neo2T is T2875.60 (no idea if that is native Thru Axle or not, but I only use Thru Axle bikes)
I swapped the Cassette body that came with the trainer to the Tacx SRAM XD-R Body (>Q4 2019, T2875.76).
My Canyon Grail is using a SRAM X01 Eagle AXS 12 speed derailleur.
    The Cassette is a SRAM XG-1275 10-50 12 Speed.
As instructed, for this setup I used the XD spacer.
ISSUE: Gears are not shifting correctly with the exception of lowest 3 to 4 gears.
In contrast, my SRAM Red etap 12 speed for Canyon Ultimate is working perfectly using XDR setup (no spacer and 10-28 cassette).

@shane is it normal to have some space at the top of the body when you slide the cassette onto the body? The spline doesn’t allow for the cassette to move all the way up and stops it. I’ve rotated it all the way around but the “lock ring” is what’s keeping it from being flush. 1:55 mark on the video shows the same thing I’m asking about. Can you advise?

Thanks for the amazing videos. they've guided me through the purchase process and getting on Zwift. I got my neo 2t yesterday, I have a X01 eagle on my wheelset, and installed an NX on the trainer. It seems as though the spacing with this driver isn't the same as the derailleur is off all over the place, limits, tension etc. Do you think if I convert the 2t to XD with a GX cassette, I can pull off not adjusting the derailleur between wheelset and trainer? Thanks!

    • @gplama
      @gplama  Před 4 lety +1

It depends what the root problem is. Indexing/etc will be all about the distance from the cassette to the derailleur, so the outside spacing, if that make sense - If that's wrong then the whole indexing will be out. I'd tinker around with facing/shimming that first to see if it'll line up before forking out on a XDR driver and $$ cassette.

I installed a Saris XDR driver on my H3 today. I’m running Force AXS 12, 10-33 cassette. All 12 gears worked fine. There is about a .5 mm gap between the hanger and the body of the H3 when in the easiest gear, so not much clearance. I will say installing a cassette when you can’t grip the wheel is different. Hence the reverse chain whip. I would recommend getting a new chain whip that was designed around 11 speed bikes. Mines an old cheep one, probably meant for 8/9 speeds. This made it hard to fit in the small gaps of a 12 speed cassette.

Hi! I’m having an issue with the install of my xd-r driver it it seems. I bought this so that I could use my Canyon Ultimate which he a 12s cassette. I am using the same cassette as my ultimate. But when I install and put my bike on, the smallest cog is very close to the rear triangle of the bike. Also, after install, my shifting is out of wack.

Hello, first of all, thanks for you excellent reviews and tutorials! I bet you can help: I just got my Neo 2T and I have the same annoying problem as these guys: czcams.com/video/2eDL45phe70/video.html, czcams.com/video/AvLOROOoQyw/video.html....low pitched vibration when in smaller half of the cogs, much like "road feel", but I have it torned off. I first tried a shimano 10 speed bike and it was totally fine, but then I switched to Sram XDR and it vibrates like hell (again, road simulation disabled) - I remember I did get 2 shims in the pack (besides the one for the brake caliper side) - is there a tutorial how to install it? Thanks!
