Tacx Neo 2t Setup (Best Zwift Trainer)

  • The Tacx Neo 2t is likely the best zwift trainer on the market in 2020 competing with the Wahoo Kickr. Comparing the Tacx Neo 2t vs Wahoo Kickr in 2020 they're very comparable as the best indoor bike trainers for use with Zwift, Rouvy, Trainerroad, or any other indoor bike trainer software, but I found that while the Tacx Neo 2t is much heavier and larger, making it more difficult to move around, it has the best road feel of any bike trainer I've tried.

    You should have mentioned It doesn't have to be plugged in. Spinning the bike will power the unit. The power cord is to power the fly wheel for downhill descents on zwift to give a more natural feel. A feature that wahoo doesn't have. Also the flywheel is magnetic driven or braked. Better than wahoo units. Only the wahoo bike has the same magnetic setup.

    Pro tip... if you have the little clear cylinder that holds the cassette in place when you buy a new one, you can use it to guide the cassette on/off your trainer so you don't have to do it piece by piece.

  • @mister_ray
    @mister_ray Před 4 lety +8

    Unlike the majority of trainers that estimate power (watts) based on the speed of a weighted flywheel driven by a belt, the TacX NEO measures the electrical energy created by the mechanical energy of the rider. The conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy occurs because of electromagnetic induction. With electromagnetic induction, an electric current can be produced in a coil of wire by moving a magnet in or out of that coil. Since the bicycle chain is directly driving the TacX NEO magnets there is no need or possibility for any spin down style calibration common with weighted flywheel trainers.

    A disclaimer stating that Tacx is owned by Garmin , a sponsor of the channel, would have been appreciated for transparency purposes. That said it is a great trainer.

The Kickr 5 doesn’t have to have a spin down now and is less expensive and comes with a cassette. I noticed that you have to enter your body and bike weight. If the trainer is to be used by more than one person (my wife and I for example), do you have to re-enter this information each time you switch bikes or are the settings overwritten by the app you're using it with (ie Zwift)? It would be annoying to have to update the weight every time. Thanks.

    • @brodiechalmers2884
      @brodiechalmers2884 Před 3 lety

      @@murraywanner4767 that’s not the issue. We have separate Zwift accounts but the neo 2t doesn’t use the weight setting sent by Zwift to control trainer difficulty. Instead is uses the user supplied weight via the tacx app making a 10% hill nearly impossible for a very light person with the incorrect weight setting. I was able to figure this out over at dcrainmaker. There’s numerous comments in the issue. In consequence I purchased a kickr core so I don’t have to open the app every time we alternate use of the trainer.

      There is a complete replacement unit "Tacx Service Lager Kit für Tacx NEO 2T" (part number S11-04001-80), available on garmin.com/en-US in case of a crappy bearing.
      I don't know how many Neo 2T are affected by crappy bearings from the beginning or overly fast wearing of the bearings. But as there is a convenient replacement available, I think this no longer has to be considered a "time bomb", as it had been stated by Tacx Faqx. In my opinion, that's even better than making only a ring nut removal tool available, because you now can easily replace the whole lager unit at once in an affordable manner. No recalibration needed. Just watch the other Tacx Faqx videos.

    • @JoeyBeeFit
      @JoeyBeeFit Před 3 lety +1

      @@DaerJohannes hi, I want to let you know that I really appreciate this response! this time bomb video was put out and freaked out a whole bunch of people, myself included. And then when I reached out for some clarification multiple times on multiple different videos I got zero response. So basically they put themselves out there and said that this machine is crap and that people should stay away from it without actually saying those words and then when people need some help because of watching what they actually said there is zero help on that. It's because of this that I actually ordered a wahoo trainer and I'm waiting on it currently. Hearing this news that there is a replacement kit makes me happy to know that they fixed the issue but at the same time it upsets me greatly because I wanted this machine, not the wahoo. So basically now I'm stuck with a machine that I didn't necessarily want because of Taqs Faqs video and his lack of response to those watching his videos. You can't imagine how upset I am. Thank you for the response, I appreciate that at least someone paid some sort of attention and gave enough care to respond.
