Brilliant in-depth review. Probably need to upgrade my Elite Drivo 2 soon and would love this!! 😍. However hard to justify the price over the Kickr Core or the new Zwift trainer, both being 50% less and just as capable. (Like you hinted at the end)👍. Although surely it's due for a price drop or upgrade as it's been that price for years 🤔

At the moment, Garmin has them on sale for $1120, at least in the USA (MSRP is $1400). The online place I typically use has them for $1120 and you get a $34 store credit on top of that.

Great review. Thank you. Does this product require the use of an app? I need to replace my Kurt Kinetic Rock and Roll trainer which i absolutely love due to stress fractures in the cheap steel. I love that I can just ride without tech.

  • @IDYLBERRY

Good review of the Tacx! Overall, the Tacx is impressive with size and functions. The only downside observed was mounting the bike to the trainer. What impressed me most was the separate power calibrations. Never thought of it much before hip replacement. The ability of the trainer to flex should take stress off the frame. I'd rather be out for a ride chasing cars and biting tires.
It has been smoking hot here for a few days with triple digit temperatures up to 114*. I did make it out for a couple sunset and night rides. Watching the supermoon rise with an orange tint while riding was what I was looking forward to. Thanks for all your videos!

Glad it was helpful! It's interesting using these products and trying to portray all the info and the feeling of riding. I really like the Tacx, but the cost is so high.
Hopefully the hip is all good now and you are riding without issues? I also have one leg shorter than the other due to a leg brake when I was younger.
Glad you been able to go for some nice rides recently! keep pushing the pedals 👍🏽

    Hello Jourdain,
Thanks for the comprehensive review; very balanced and thorough. I'm thinking of purchasing one, though I do have a couple of pressing questions if you'll indulge me:
    1. You highlighted the tight squeeze regarding disc brake calipers. One year on from this video, has it held up without rubbing?
    2. I'll be running a 2016 3T Exploro on the trainer, at least for the time being (I don't have a fleet of bikes to choose from). This iteration of the Exploro has the hang loose rear mech hanger which comes away with the derailleur body from the frame when the thru axle is removed (one of those bike industry solutions to a problem that never existed!). Would this have any potential issues with installation? I've tried to get through to Garmin a few times about this, but am always put on hold for 20-30 minutes, so generally give up after 5.
An overly and unnecessarily long message perhaps, but I'd be grateful for any help and or advice.
    Cheers,
    Tom

These are on sale for about a grand I think with a coupon for the motion plates for free. My 2T will be here Monday.
As far as the caliper goes, you can just remove it and hang it off the frame with zip ties if it is a problem. Im guessing it may be in my MTB.

      @JourdainColeman  Před 6 měsíci

To be honest, I didn't notice the trainer getting hot but then I wasn't looking out for it. I use the Kickr Core mainly now and I've not noticed any considerable heat. I would check for rubbing if you are concerned

I have not sued the Kickr V6, I'm still trying to get my hands on one. What I would say is the Tacx is a great trainer, there is no hiding that. I'm sure the Kickr V5/V6 is as well but without using them both it would be unfair to say one is better than the other.

I had a Neo 2T until it went kaput just recently with what seems like a pretty common fault (power-on and fans run full, no lights or connectivity and no resistance) - to Garmin's credit they have been good at arranging its return and replacement but in the meantime I decided to get a Wahoo Kickr and so glad I did, it's so much better!

    • @JourdainColeman

@@JourdainColeman Have to say I always used a Neo, when it failed I got a Kickr. Its now growing back and replaced with a 2T. The Kickr (v5) had 2 software faults, one in game and the other spiking since 4.3.0 firmware, when downgraded the spiking stoped.... Support were useless, truly incompetent. The only good thing is that they have now offered a refund. Freeride with a Neo is so much better than the Kickr in my opinion with a greater force required due to the virtual flyweel on the Kickr. Its horses for courses I guess. Shame as the Kickr design is really good but given I do 8 hours a week indoors I need consistency
      Good review btw

It says powermeter is plus or minus 1 percent. My tacx gives about 5-10% less power than my powermeter on my bike. The powermeter on my bike is the same as I have on the bikes in the gym so I don’t trust the powermeter on my tacx. It is very demotivating to ride this powermeter so I always connect to the powermeter of my bike, then I at least have the same figures I am used to.

the fluctuation on the Wahoo is the same. the power smoothing is only making it more readable. it doesn't mean that there is no fluctuation. So the only thing the wahoo is doing is presenting it like its a flat line while its actually not.
