This is great as a former catcher this would have been nice when I played. They need to mandate this link e they did the new batters helmets
One issue that you failed to mention is a lack of umpires regardless of division is their inability to stay in shape. The weakness of the neck and upper back muscles can increase the probability of an injury. Fighters know that if you raise your chin even a 1/2 inch the punch carries 3x as much punishment. Fighters absorb consistent punishment but those who build the neck and back muscles are able to sustain more punishment. The equipment used by umpires is important but so is the physical shape of the umpire using that equipment.

I ordered the Force3 spring helmet. I wear 7 3/8 hat. There was not enough black elastic to fit comfortably. F3 essentially said tough. I had to order a few rolls of 1" black elastic material from Amazon until I found the right tough type. I guess they just import from China and what you get is what you get. Hope I never need other parts. $300.
I prefer the hockey style. I am currently using the AllStar System Seven model. I feel that I have better visibility through the cage. I considered the Force3, but was concerned that it would be too small as my head size is 7 5/8 to 7 3/4. I have taken shots off the mask and the helmet with no ill effects in 1 plus seasons of work. I did change the mask out after noting a dent. I would strongly consider Force3 if it came in a slightly larger size.
On hot days it doesn’t bother you wearing that style of mask ? Seems a bit rough
@@MM-qi5mk I wear a helmet and have worn it at 100+ degrees on turf. Since you don't have a hat on, your head breathes and any wind goes directly through the hockey style to cool you down. I prefer it over wearing a hat on the bases on a hot day!
For IHSAA high school baseball umpiring, I am going to move to all Force3 safety equipment. I’ve been reading and watching a lot of reviews and I have owned the Force3 umpire mask and took 3 of my hardest foul balls in one game a few years ago. The hits were so hard the crowd gasped and fell silent every time, the catcher quickly turned around to check on me and both coaches came to check on me along with my umpiring partner. I was not phased at all. Best of all, no concussion protocol! My favorite place to umpire from is behind the plate. My safety and comfort are most important and I put my trust in Force3 Umpiring Equipment!
Where is the data from testing? As a Mechanical Engineer I would like to see the analytical comparison on all brands.

Seriously dude? Your claim is the ball increases it's velocity because of the spin created by the bat contacting the ball? NO. It's impossible to add velocity to a moving object by contacting it in the opposite direction. If anything its going to slow down, ever so slightly. High School physics class would have saved you. Mask technology is very good. Early model springs break due to impacts. Hopefully they supply free replacement springs now?
I'm NOT a fan of the Hockey Style Mask, ALL of the MLB Umpires SHOULD wear the more traditional umpire face mask, I just DO NOT like the Hockey Style face masks AT ALL

I can understand the catchers wearing the hockey style mask, but it just doesn't look right when an umpire wears one, I'm an old school person, I'd MUCH rather see the home plate umpire wear the more traditional style of the old school face mask, in my opinion, ALL of the MLB Umpires NEED to wear the modernized version of the old school traditional face mask
If the ump is more comfortable with the hockey helmets let him.
