Tyler Flowers on Catching 100 MPH and the Force3 Defender Mask

Tyler Flowers is not only an MLB catcher, he's a successful entrepreneur that co-owns (along with new partner Yasmani Grandal) Force3, the company that is making waves with its catcher's mask.
The Force3 Defender mask, according to Flowers, was worn by 27 MLB catchers in 2018, and continues to grow thanks to its Shock Suspension System that reduces the impacts of foul balls. If you've seen our Locker Tour with Max Stassi, you know that Big Leaguers speak very highly of this mask, and we checked in with Tyler Flowers for an update on baseball and business.

Great technology that you guy's are bringing into an overlooked aspect of the hobby. At the same time our 10u and 12u league just can't afford this piece of protection that should be a base standard no questions asked.

I coach and my son is a catcher. Concussions have been a worry for me the more he plays. I’ve never heard of these masks till now. Definitely going to look into getting him one.

My 14 yr old son plays high school ball now, he has been wearing it for 2yrs now, before with the old style hockey mask he has had two concussions buy foul tips, has not had one since going to Force 3 helmet

The masks are very pricey though. Most people can’t afford the masks that protect you more, which is a problem.

He talks just like I do. Teeth closed... Lips move... NOISE. When I was little I went to the doctor to see why I do it, the doctor said something about wearing a night guard so I did that for a couple weeks, and then we went back because it just got worse. And now people are always saying how I talk threw my teeth, and it kinda makes me insecure sometimes.

I was told they have to wear the hockey mask because too many high school kids would turn their heads with a ball thrown in the dirt and the ball would hit them in the ear and have them go deaf.
