I played catcher growing up. This is my jam. Most fun position in baseball...always in the game.
I was catching before the throat guard was invented. (see Steve Yeager’s near death experience) I remember all three times a foul tip hit me in the throat. I also broke my left thumb with a sweep tag and took several inadvertent whacks to the head with bats. That said, I loved playing behind the plate. Lots of fun!
@@PlaceStillMatters ¹
Same I play catcher for my all-star team but I can play any position
@@JakeTheGreat10 utility is a rare breed. Good for you in knowing your talents.
Never played with one. Keep your chin down and don’t turn your head.
Yadi Molina would have his own highlight video.
Should*
@Maxwell Bowden wat you mean? Yadi has a lot of his own highlight videos
He has his own highlight reel
For sure
Yeah there is no Yadi in here because these plays are every day for him.
Can I just say how much coordination and skill it takes for a catcher to throw to first WITHOUT looking!
Like dang mad respect.
.
La Tortuga himself.
He was looking
What makes you think he wasn’t looking? He saw the runner that’s why he threw over
I couldn’t tell if this was skilled catchers or Jose Altuve getting thrown out
@Romano Jr Ramirez he is not hating dude he is trying to make a joke
Mr Gamer he’s mad because that kids an Astro fan lolol
😂 lmao Ass*ole
Lol
@@thataxolotlgamer6738 are you sure he’s joking lol? 90% of the time it was altuve getting thrown out
As a former catcher, thank you for the props and the love! Of course my knees hurt watching some of those plays LOL, but thank you!
That second clip was amazing, he fooled the runner into thinking he was gonna throw back to the pitcher, then without looking fired the ball to first to get a back pick. Amazing man El Tortuga is an underrated catcher tbh.
Yeah that was a great play
Catchers don't get enough credit for all the hard work they do imo
Poor catchers worse position to play
@@tim8801 that’s where all the actions at.
@M Fisher yea that adds salt to the wound rip knees, it’s probably fun as opposed to out field but still pitcher and catcher are kinda bad positions medically speaking
That Joe Mauer behind the back was awesome!
As a kid, I was always looking at the catcher. I liked all of the gear they were wearing.
I thought i was the only one
Not a single clip of Yadi, Yadi, Yadi! “Respect the rank!” says Yadi.
“Respect the ranks”🙄🙄. Contreras was ‘respecting the ranks. He was saying how someday he wanted to be better then the catchers who he considered ‘the best’
@@tannergernenz3781 the best should be in the video but he's not
@@billgates23yearsago4 hey they should. I think this was a video for the catchers no one knows about.
I never thought much about catchers until my son became one. Good catching wins games. Bad catching loses games -- even more than bad pitching. A good catcher can get you out of innings by picking off runners even when a pitcher is throwing garbage.
Is it just me or does seeing catchers dive and slide so go damn satisfying
your not alone, lol
5:47 textbook technique! Don’t try to snare the ball with your glove, shift your feet, keep the ball in front of you and take it off your armor. Glanced off the unprotected wrist, which smarts, but it comes with the territory. Also as soon as the ball is secured he’s just eagle eyeing the infield. Beautiful.
My high school catcher does this all the time and it works every time
4:00 the best moment, love how the player and ump are thinking: are you really trying to sell a ball in the dirt
No clip of Yadi? That's like keeping Griffey Jr. out of a HR video, or Randy Johnson out of a pitching video...
Then the whole video would be just clips of Yadi. One of the greatest for sure! Think of this video as everyone who’s vying for second place.
Excelente video. El béisbol definitivamente es el mejor deporte del mundo.... Bonito y elegante. Muchas gracias por compartirlo. Saludos y abrazos desde Colombia.
As an outfielder, I just wanna say catchers are the most underrated position
Who underrates catcher? The catcher has been known as General of the field for decades now. Literally no one who matters underrates that position.
Argh... its the one in Co ed slow pitch where we generally put the worst player (usually female)..... and fuck does defense ever "eat it"
Centerfielder is lmao
I’m a starting softball Catcher, so the moment I saw this title. I literally taped on the video so fast! 😂
tapped*
@@watchcat4797 what a gentlemen
cheeky humble-brag there, “starting” softball catcher 😉
Cool
Quick question how fast do your pitchers throw
Much respect to the position getting thrown at all game. Truly the general of the defense.
Honestly, I think what impressed me most in this video was the pitchers hustling to the plate and getting down to block it.
The fact that there are no Yadi highlights, yet a few highlights of Salvador Peres simply throwing a runner out at second makes more mad than it should
As a catcher these were amazing
Everyone always forgets catcher is the most important defensive position in the game (not SS or CF). It was a pleasant surprise to hear ol Vin Scully 3/4 of the way through the video. I’m a diehard Padres fan but we can all appreciate that man’s greatness
I don’t even watch baseball but I’m obsessed with these videos. I used to play my whole life and was a full time pitcher. I don’t know why though, but I’ve always hated watching baseball on TV. I love these though.
More proof that if anyone ever says baseball is boring, I always tell them to play catcher. So much action
Imma let you have your modern day catchers compilation but Buck Martinez making both outs on a double play with a broken leg is the best catcher video of all time, of all time!
4:08 Angel Hernandez would’ve called it a strike
0:23 will forever be my favorite! He played it off so well
Baseball like all multiple players pro sports is a “day at a time” business. You never know when you’ll get hurt, sent down, traded, or released. There is always someone younger, bigger, better, faster in line waiting to fill your spot.
That dive at 2:58 was too cute lol
0:22 Freaking brilliant. If I was the pitcher I'd buy him dinner that night.
The Joe Mauer in KC behind the net HAS to be on there!
Caught from age 7 through a year of college ball. So fun bringing me back memories of making a lot of similar plays. Got to catch my son's first coach pitch game 2 weeks ago. That was so much fun!!! I could use a MBA, and I still have some eligibility and am still in shape. Hmmm...
Aaaaaand this is why you put up with a catcher slashing .220/.270/.310. Cuz at the end of the day, if they can do shit like this ON TOP of being good at game calling and pitch framing, then that's more valuable than a catcher who can hit like a first baseman but lets wild pitches sail right by.
I have MAD respect for MLB catchers. They are behind the plate calling the pitches, that are thrown at them at close to 80mph if not more, while a grown man is trying to hit it out of the air as hard as they can with a big wooden bat. I was a catcher while I was growing up (8-11 U), it was exceptionally tough considering I was left handed. I quit during fall ball of 11 U when drop 3rd strike came along. It was too hard for me to throw to first while being left handed. I think catching is the most fun, dangerous, involved, and respected position in baseball.
It takes a very intelligent person who is willing to strap on the tools of ignorance.
I've always considered catchers the general of the field. Usually the smartest person out there.
3:50 That Was Amazing
one of the most underappreciated positions in sports
Kinda almost like the goalie in hockey (or soccer)
I don't really see how. Both Goalie for hockey/soccer/futbol and catcher are considered the hardest positions to play in sports; I don't think that goes unappreciated
catchers are pure baseball
The pick off at first was slick
What no Yadi Molena. You guys make me sick. Most of the catchers in MLB can't hold a candle to him. Always east coast or west coast.
Molina best catcher
You're so mad yet can't even spell the mans name lol
Yadiar Molina is the best catcher of all time
Half of these clips are Jose Altuve getting thrown out and I'm okay with that
All baseball fans are okay with that! 😡
lol
Yup
Hahahahahaha so many salty tears.
🤣🤣🤣
Archer with the Javy Baez tag. Never thought I'd see that.
7:06
"They're playing bumper pool to get outs now. "
😂😂 where did that boi think he was going? 1:15
1:38 nice slide at home by Altuve
Catchers, catch the ball
It’s more then that
They are actually receiving the pitch. Theres a HUHE difference!!
@@RDuder I was a catcher and I work with young catchers and I say that a lot to parents so when I read your comment my response was meant to be tongue and cheek and I knew players that catch would get it. It wasn’t meant to argue what you said. Didnt intend to start an argument. My apologies
@@abnormaltexan ah ok, I just assumed you were, my bad
and throw down runners
Great to see some catcher action. Thanks.
No Yadi?
Well you see, whoever made this.. is an idiot.
Yeah just imagine making a video like this without Yadi lmao
4:22 one of the coolest plays I’ve seen (I don’t watch any baseball by the way)
Best sport videos account
7:20 feels like an all timer for all the right and wrong reasons
I see Jonathon Lucroy, I click.
Also at 4:30 I always laugh at that one, but it looks good, is it in the rulebook that it cannot bounce before getting to the plate?
Not sure what your trying to ask
@@AlexJW224 if the ball bounces off the ground in front of the plate and up far enough to be in the zone, is it a strike?
@@phillipg9345 No it is not. The ball would be out of the strike zone if there was not ground there to deflect the ball up. Players can swing at the ball and miss which would make it a strike but it would just be a ball if the player didn’t swing at it.
😉 caught over 2000 games in 28 years and did not lose 150 games..there’s a reason why there are more existing and former managers who were catchers than any other position
4:08 always makes me laugh.
Rasmus's face at :51 LMAO he was even like WAAT
Fantastic tag by Archer
They call the catcher's equipment the tools of ignorance. But catchers are often the smartest guys on the field. And always the pitcher's best friend.
Who has ever, in the history of the world, ever said that
I was only a little league pitcher, but I knew it then, & I still know it now. If no one has ever said that, I don't understand why.
Most important position in baseball
Not the most influential but definitely the most important
Altuve getting hosed: a documentary
Yadi wasn't included in this. Which means this is video is bogus.
Catcher plays are so goooooodddd
Not one single Yadi Molina clip, best catcher in baseball
Johnny bench : Am I a joke to you
Nice plays
0:22 - I love how the catcher throws to first, from his knees and still looking at the pitcher... Wow!
And they put in a highlight of Gary Sanchez?! 😂 That's his only highlight!
1:30. Respect to Altuve for slowing up and not ramming the pitcher
One thing I really miss is going to actual baseball games because I swear I think I met the most boyfriends at baseball games than anywhere else.
Congrats. Want a cookie
@@terrencebobshea2300 It’s not 2011 anymore man

Don’t sweat it, I’ll set you up with my good buddy, he’s a prince from Nigeria.
@@mozzie851 thanks I didn’t know that, clown
How ironic is it that Gary Sanchez made it into this video
Joe Mauer, best catcher of our time
Really surprised molina wasn't here
Yadi has a LOT of highlight vids (my favorite catcher).
I'm just now learning that carlos santana played catcher
He's a pretty good guitar player too.
It’s genuinely funny that half of these are on altuve
half of these are the catcher fumbling the pitch
Why is no one talking about how amazing of a tag Chris Archer made at 2:05
Because archer is a punk and no one likes him...???
@@seanbailey3920 true dat you make good points
As a Pirates fan...I legally can't
I like this bc I am a catcher going into 10 u
Like Tommy Lasorda said, I would take the best athlete on the team, and make him a catcher.
Half of the were bad plays turned into good plays
One of the hardest positions for your knees.
Having an All Star, Hall of Fame catcher behind the plate is no guarantee of winning a world series, not having one is a guarantee of never winning a world series.
7:05 WOW
Bro Jose Altuve got thrown out like 3 times 🤣
Fisk, Gedman, and Veritek❤
0:21 I wish I was like this
I love the one highlight Sanchez has ever had defensively was just a lucky play for him haha. Dude stopped the ball with his forearm lol. Not with the glove or his torso like you are taught to do. But because he is so slow he stops it with his forearm. Poor guy
1:00, Utley was way safe..
At 2:34 with Kevin Pillar getting tagged out at third, a pop-up in the top right corner said MLB perfect shot........ Just thinking of the perfect shot to Kevin Pillar's face 😈
I always forget Carlos Santana came up as a catcher.
That last play Posey should have been safe according to the Posey Rule.
0:38 this was just a bobbled two-strike foul tip. I was confused that they thought it was a pop up caught. There were 2 strikes.
1:25 he was outside the base path anyhow. Though he did run inside to start with which gave him some leeway before it was fielded.
Catcher is go for you to see the ball when you are batting
These are some great plays but many more that weren’t shown and many great catchers not even shown...
1:57 skilled pitcher aswell
i miss hedges on the pads
I love the tags by Gray! He was like a methodical hunter going after his prey, heads up!
i literall see active get thrown out so much in these kinda videos
