    Mask did its job.

      Yes it kept him injury free, but that shouldn't happen it should be able to take hits

      @jackjon7763 Před 7 lety +2

      JosterGaming could be an old mask. Maybe it was already somewhat damaged and that hit was the one that broke it. Or maybe there is a flaw in the mask that if hit just right it explodes. And yeah it did do its job of protecting him and yes extremely unexpected

      I don't think it should. I feel like it's like a helmet--only made to work once.

      JosterGaming it probably has taken alot lol

      It would have actually decreased the impact force by exploding, thus doing a better job of protecting the catcher.

    That is exactly how proper safety gear is supposed to be designed. The force is dissipated breaking what doesn't matter(the plastic shell) to protect what does(his head). It's the exact same concept as crumple zones in a car, the frame crumples and deforms around the cabin dissipating the force and protecting those inside.

      What R The Kids Into? Catchers and hockey/lacrosse goalies are insane. It takes some big balls to step in the cage, in front of the net, or catch a pitch.

    It's probably better that it broke the way it did. I'm no scientist but I remember reading about an example of a pottery pot landing on some guys head: in one picture, the pot breaks, in the other, it doesn't. It goes on to say that since pot broke in the one picture it did less damage to guys head than if it just landed solidly on his head without breaking.

    2 piece wouldn't protect from that.

    • @john20pb
      @john20pb Před 7 lety +16

      Yes it would... The 2 piece one he put on would have taken that ball off of the metal plate at the top because it sticks up higher.

      Kyle Walker Two piece helmets offer much more protection in the front, but not as much around the sides.

    i say it's a product of cost efficiency, the inside is what protects so make the outside out of cheaper meterial and less craftsmanship to lower the cost. It's saved him from serious injury so play-on

    And still NFHS requires the hockey mask, because traditional mask and helmets are not tested together to NOCSAE standards. They should take a long, hard look at this video and allow traditional masks. No wonder why this crowd was cheering when the catcher came back.
    Plays like this is why I wear and old-school mask with a throat protector for catching and umpiring.
