Mafia 1 and 2 are baller we're amazing. 3 fell off and didn't really feel like a mafia game, still a good game though.

Sleeping Dogs should get a remake. It's such a great game and one of the best gangster games ever made.
100% it deserves the Dead Space treatment, and then it should FINALLY get a sequel after all these years like it was meant to way back in 2015.
I would prefer a sequel. The original doesn't really need a remake. It was remastered and that was enough I think.

This clearly was a list that they had to stretch so much with so many compromises that I feel this should have instead been a "Why do we not have any great modern gangster games anymore". Literally just talk about the few good exceptions, but highlight just how much of a gap is present in the modern landscape.

I think it's more of a "We really want more Mafia games, let's make a list to remind hopefully devs to make more mafia games" than guys in black suits from Sicily holding guns to their heads
This is an old one, but one of my favorite gangster game ever is the Godfather 2 on the 360. That was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game and I feel like it doesn't get enough credit for what it was

alot of people shit on it because it didnt take the "GTA clone" route of the first game which was narrative based.
personally i think the economic/management simulator features of the game more than made up for it. one of the best games on the 360 forsure.
i also miss the scarface videogame.

They really dont have enough gangster games, or open world crime games for that matter. Sucks for me because it’s pretty much one of the only games I play, and I’ve simply run out of games I like to play.

City of Gangsters and Omerta - City of Gangsters are my top favorite gangster video games.
Both are sleeper gems and i literally played over 200 hours in both games.
Omerta was such a blast until you got everything under control and it became stale - I still hope for a (at least spiritually) follow up at some point that got some of its core issues fixed

I hope you guys come up with the most under-rated indies/ indie games with unique mechanics or story elements list, based on the years, because we have ton of indie gems.
Honestly, and yeah I don't have even a fraction of historical knowledge of the genre, but it seems indie has gotten that deep now that it has it's own sub genres or might really new some more clear definition of something underrated, kickstart, or ex-triple-A developers making a similar title to their previous work

Scarface PS2 is my number 1 gangster game. Then gtaIII. but mafias and godfathers are amazing too.

Hong Kong Massacre is a lot of fun, I play it on switch. I beat it awhile ago and still go back and enjoy it every time. I appreciate the brutal combat where a single bullet kills you or the enemy
Mafia Definitive Edition was one of my favourite mafia style games. The style and the trimmed back open world feel was great. I also loved the driving despite being terrible at it.
One of the best twists as the wrench twists.. incredible ideology for entertainment content. Well done ✔

RDR2 doesn't even feel like a 2018 game. Even today, it still looks & plays Better than most AAA games released today. Truly ahead of it's time.

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster... after playing the Mafia series I got obsessed with gangster movies starting with Goodfellas and then I just went on watching everything I could find like Scarface, The Godfather, Donnie Brasco, Casino, The Departed, A Bronx Tale, The Irishman... u get the picture... and also got me obsessed with 50s and 60s rock music and cars... they made a huge impact on me in a good way...

The Mafia remake became one of my favorite games after I played it a couple of years ago. Incredible story
I was VERY surprised with Mafia, I loved it!
I played it back in the day and got to the race but the controls on the original were so bad I could never seem to finish the race so I moved on. I've played through Mafia 2 several times then Mafia 1 DE when it came out and I saw what I was missing by not finishing it ~20 years prior. The first 2 are very good games, I haven't gotten around to playing 3 yet though.
@@406Steven 3 is story wise a solid game but buggy in some aspects (especially achievements) and different - if you didn't buy it yet: Get it on sale only, it's well worth it's price tag to me but I can't recommend it for the full price tag to anyone in good faith unless they come around to fix some things.

i wish there were more "mafia" games. Like actual GOOD "mafia" mobster games. If someone gets it right, it can go a long way to being a 10 years and running game like GTA5

As a gangster, I can tell you that being a gangster is a lot more fun in games than in real life. Crime is a job, but it's got a lot more down time than most other jobs.

I played Mafia III (2016) in the past year as it came through as a free game on PSN. It captivated me through to the end, a bit tedious in places (rinse and repeat mission types) but overall a good game I thought, certainly worth playing when free. The soundtrack was awesome too.

I played Mafia Definitive Edition last year, and it was probably one of the best games that I played last year. I didn't play the Mafia 1 (older version), so I wasn't expecting anything at all, I just give the game a chance, and it did surprise me, because the story is pretty good to me, and also the characters are to me what made the game special. Tommy and the others are really likeable characters.
Glad City of Gangsters showed up on here! Great chill music in it too!
For the Empire of Sin likers theres also Omerta: City of Gangsters, it's one of those 'lots of potential' games, but i sunk 80~ hours into it!

Can't get more nostalgic than The Malibu Club
I would love a game where you play as a Kingpin-type character, with some combat, maybe some strategizing about idk gang stuff like drugs and supply chains, and a good story. Would honestly be solid, playing as a major villain.
Just played the Mafia Definitive Edition trilogy over the last few weeks and the first was definitely the best. The other two just don't capture me in the story like the first one. Would have been nice though if they worked on the driving a bit more since it still is rough.
I beg to differ on The Hong Kong Massacre being short, if you are going for the platinum lol It was brutal at times 😄

The two reasons I haven't bought Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2 is the change in play control and no cheats.
So when I first started the yakuza series I was coming off mafia so I was kinda disappointed at first but yakuza has become one of my favorite series and I had to honestly give the man who erased his name a 10/10 and I’ve only given that high a rating about 3 or 4 other times movies and games and tv shows all included but that game brought every single emotion out of me and I just cannot recommend it enough
I love the yakuza games. Just started 5 months ago n pretty much beat all the main ones. Working con judgemnt almost done n then lost judgement. Going be sad when I have no more yakuza games to play. Such a beautiful series with alot of heart n just wanting to be a better person. There is something for everybody when they play the series. Gaiden incredible ending n I know people give yongyea a hard time about his Kiryu performance but I thought he was great. The ending on Gaiden was powerful tearing moment you don't see often in gaming.

By watching this video, I feel like there are only handful of great gangster games like Mafia or Yakuza series but handful. Developers should explore this genre bcz it has sooo much potential which i feel its not explored for past few years.
