Fantastic video essay. My favorite all time stand up comedians are : Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and to my absolute total surprise Bill Burr.

Chris Rock is the moral philosopher comedian, he is witty while making us laugh and think critically. And you are right he is always changing his format and approach to the craft. I love your observations regarding comedy narrative. Thank you for this video.
Excellent video. I really liked how you upped Chris Rock for being vulnerable for with the cheating topic. But still acknowled he has essentially been telling the world he doesn't believe in monogamy for the last 20 years lol.

everyone knows Chris Rock by name/as a comedian/zebra in Madagascar (wish you mentioned lol), but thanks so much for the background on his past! I didn't know much about him before this. now I'm interested in checking out his special.

I will definitely watch the Chris Rock special now. I was skeptical about it, considering all the other Netflix/comeback specials.
Correction: The special that changed things for Chris was 'Big Ass Jokes'. That's what got him 'Bring The Pain'.

I believe the cash in is right to a certain degree I would argue Chapelle came back after being in self imposed exile after leaving Chapelles show. And I thought his specials were great.

This was a very good analysis.and I view stand up specials like music Albums, cause like Music Artists who try to evolve their sound from Album to Album.it is, kinda hard to create a stand up set when most of these stand ups or pop artists don't really live in the Real World anymore.And Eddie Murphy was essentially the 1980's Version of Michael Jackson or Van Halen of Stand up.He was that Rock Star Commedian(who Dane Cook tried to Be)but then he became this Gentleman of Leisure still living off the Legend of Delirious
