More good stuff than I thought there would be in comedy this year, frankly. This list is going to look a bit strange, because it's half fully produced big-budget specials, and half comics in their basements. I have a list of my top five favorite specials from this year, and then some honorable mentions and some favorites from the comedy world outside of just specials, some funny happy things from elsewhere in comedy.

what about the specials by mark normand, talyor tomlinson, sam morril and joe list ????? they all came out in 2020!
I think Pete gets overlooked cause he’s so young, he doesn’t really fit in with SNL and people know him more from his relationships. But at the end of the day he’s been doing it since he was a kid and he’s really honest, clever and funny, I think he’s one to watch

Also hidden gem on CZcams The Not Even a Show. Weird prank calls to conservative call in lines. Punches down a bit but give it 5 episodes and you’ll be hooked.
Love your perspective on international comedy and how it can teach us about a different culture through what makes them laugh. It makes me wonder if there is truly a common language of humor. If you ask Johnny Knoxville he’d probably say it’s someone getting hit in the crotch.

Hay you should check out Frankie Boyle's "Excited for you to see and hate this". It was filmed in 2019 and got shown in 2020 on the TV in the UK where Twitter descended to us quoting his jokes for two days straight. "I don't think the people that voted for BREXIT are dumb. I think they are people that voted to leave Europe because they were scared of Pakistani's". Classic line.
I will say I think it's a different show when you know how controversial he was in the '00s and how it's a lot of him coming to terms with what "Politically Incorrect Comedy" has done for the worst. It's also free on youtube along with a lot of his older specials. Also, I can't find it anymore but an audio clip of him talking about Louis CK is one of the darkest takes on him in a way that shows the dangers of separating the art from the artist. All stuff I recommend checking out and I'm pretty sure James Acaster name-checked him making fun of other comedians once.
