'കൊച്ചിൻ ഹാർബർ ടെർമിനസ്' മാത്രമല്ല 'എറണാകുളം ഓൾഡ് ടെർമിനസുമുണ്ട്' പൈതൃകങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ.,ട്രെയിനുകളുടെ ലിസ്റ്റിൽ ഒരു ട്രെയിനുംകൂടി വിട്ടുപോയി കേരളത്തിന്റെ സ്വന്തംപേരിലുള്ള ട്രെയിനായ സാക്ഷാൽ 'കേരള എക്സ്പ്രസ്സ്'.ആദ്യം കേരള എക്സ്പ്രസ്സ് തുടങ്ങിയത് ന്യൂ ഡൽഹി-കൊച്ചി റൂട്ടിലായിരിന്നു.,നേരത്തെ തുടങ്ങിയ 'ഡെമു സർവീസ്' ഷൊർണൂർ വരെ നീട്ടിയാൽ ലാഭകരമാകും 'ലോക്കോ ചേഞ്ചിങ്ങിന്റെ' ആവശ്യമില്ല കൊച്ചിയിൽ നിന്നും തന്നെ തുടങ്ങാം സൗത്ത് സ്റ്റേഷന്റെ സ്ഥലപരിമിതിക്കും ഒരു ചെറിയ പരിഹാരമായി .നന്ദി അറിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നിർത്തുന്നു.തുടർന്നും വീഡിയോകൾ പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

1961 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 16 എന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ ബോംബെ യാത്ര ഇവിടെ നിന്നും ആയിരുന്നു. രണ്ടു ബോഗികൾ മദ്രാസ്സ് എക്സ്പ്രസിൽ ആർക്കോണം വരെ പിന്നെ മദ്രാസ്സ് ബോംബെ എക്സ്പ്രസിൽ തൊടുത്തു ബോംബെക്കു. കരിഎൻജിൻ വലിക്കുന്ന തീവണ്ടി. ഓർമ്മകൾ പുതുക്കിയതിൽ സന്തോഷം.
Recently, I have enquired with one of my friends from Ernakulam about this station, Cochin Harbour Terminus. He has told me that no train is running from/to this station after an accident happened to the bridge (old bridge) at Venduruthy for some years. Then I have tried Google to know about the present position. Happy to know something about this great nostalgic place. I have last travelled from this station to North Kerala in Malabar Express (to Mangalore) during 1973. It was generally a celebration time for Keralites after our first victory in Santhosh Trophy at Ernakulam defeating Railways by 3-2 in the final. Subramoniam (Mani) from Cannanore was our captain. After a few days, there was a friendly match between one first division German Club (playing in the Bundesliga-German National league) from Berlin (Germany) and an Indian XI selected for this match. I was able to see this match by chance as I had a written examination for a bank test on the next day at Ernakulam. The match was great, but the tall German team was superior and we were defeated by 0-2. Mani, Devanand, Jacob C C were part of our main eleven and our goal keeper was Bandya Kakkade from Tatas, Bombay. After my written test, which was finished by noon, next day, I have travelled to Cochin Harbour Terminus during the afternoon (though my train Malabar Express would start at around 7.20 P.M. or so) to catch the train. There, I was able to see Pradeep Chowdury, the full back of Indian XI (also from Tatas Bombay) who was waiting for the Bombay Train (probably going to VT, Bombay departing at about 3.30 P.M. For some reason, I liked this place and simply spent my time there by walking through the platform and nearby. Thereafter I was not able to see Cochin Harbour Terminus, the great old station of yester years. The place had some great attraction which cannot be described fully. Some sort of beauty with a panoramic view, the place was really picturesque. I hope this place would be included as great World Heritage site in India.

good video, you have mentioned the facts very nicely, I am a resident of Mumbai and used to travel to Ernakulam every year during my school vacation , in those days we used to go from tripunithura to Cochin harbour terminals to catch train to Mumbai which was called Bombay in those days, it was indeed a pleasure to go there, when the train used to cross the vendurithi bridge, we used to enjoy the scene, those days the trains were running on steam engines and all trains used to terminate at Kochin harbour terminus. Ernakulam in station had only two platforms one for broadgauge and another for metre guage. In Ernakulam north few trains used to stop and I think it was constructed late. After seeing your video I had nostalgic memories, thanks once again for posting such a different video, which the present generation could see and know how such a busy station met it's watery grave

Thanks Prashanth for nostalgic station. Travelled a lot from there to Bangalore by island express. Cochin Madras mail is the first train to be dieselised. It was a novel experience to travel in a diesel train at that time.
Since 1976, Jayanti Janata used to run on the Bombay VT - Cochin HT route; later extended to Cape Comorin.
Old Cochin-Kurla Exp ( Now Netravati Exp ) had made its debut from here ! Jayanti Janata Express ( Pride of South) always had a start from TVM extended to Kanyakumari( Please correct me if I'm wrong). I was a child then, when we use to travel to Mumbai by this. Thanks sir.

You mentioned that Cochin - Dadar Express is discontinued. But that was wrong information. Fact is that there no Nethravathi Express that time. But there are 2 trains to bombay until 1993. First train is cochin - bombay VT super fast which runs 2 times a week and Cochin - Dadar express weekly express. Both runs on same time slot. In 1993 both trains are merged to single train and renamed as Nethravathi Express which is daily train.
Initially Nethravathi Express was plied between Mumbai to Mangalore/Kochi as link via the inland Pune, Gulbarga, Krishnarajapuram, Palakkad route parting at Shornur Junction. Trains on the old route used to take 48 hours to reach Mangalore from Mumbai. After the Konkan Railway line was operational in 1998, the route has been changed via the Konkan Railway and the Mangaluru-Mumbai running time was reduced drastically to 16 hours. The link express was made a single train till Kochi and further extended till Thiruvananthapuram from 10 February 2001.

Yes, a station which catered for a few people, the place mostly a businesz Centre, where auction of tea used to be conducted. Only goods train to Shoranur during 1970's.
Didn't Malabar Express also originate at CHTS? I remember as a little boy back in the early 70s waiting with my mother at Ernakulam Junction station, for what we called Mangalore Express to come from Cochin. It was a night train, leaving ERS at around 11 p.m..

I have fond memories about this historic railway station, Cochin Harbour terminus. I was able to see the station twice in my life, long time back, to travel in Malabar Express which started from this station in its journey to Mangalore. The station had a great ambiance once now the glory is gone sadly.

പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരുകാര്യം മറന്നു. എറണാകുളത്തു അതിവിപുലമായ ഒരു റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കൊച്ചി രാജാവ് കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് പണി കഴിപ്പിച്ചു പഴയ എറണാകുളം സ്റ്റേഷൻ. മാർക്കറ്റ് റോഡിന് വടക്കു പച്ചആളത്താണ് ഈ സ്റ്റേഷൻ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. എറണാകുളത്തെ വാണിജ്യ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ ഇമ്പോർട് എക്സ്പോർട്ട് കാര്യങ്ങൾക്കു ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഈ സ്റ്റേഷൻ ആയിരുന്നു. ഇവിടെനിന്നു വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ട്രെയിൻ സെർവിസികളുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. നിരവധി ഏക്കർ സ്ഥലവും, വെയർഹൌസ് സൗകര്യങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പിൽക്കാലത്തു എറണാകുളം സൗത്തും, എറണാകുളം നിർത്തും വികസിച്ചപ്പപ്പോൾ ആദ്യ സ്റ്റേഷന്റെ സ്ഥാനം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. സ്റ്റേഷന്റെ സ്ഥലവും സാമഗ്രികളും പേരും കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തി. അധികാരികൾ കണ്ണടച്ച്. ഇത്രയും ഭീമമായ സ്ഥലം ഉള്ളപ്പോൾ റെയിൽവേ സ്ഥല സൗകര്യമില്ലാതെ വീർപ്പു മുട്ടുന്നു. പഴയ പ്രൗടി വീണ്ടെടുത്തു പ്രതാപത്തോടെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ ഇനിയും കഴിയും
ഉറച്ച ഇച്ചാ ശക്തിയുള്ള ഗവണ്മെന്റ് അധികാരികളും, സത്യ സന്ധരായ ജന പ്രതി നിധികളും ഉണ്ടങ്കിൽ. ഒരുപാടു സ്ഥലങ്ങളും കെട്ടിട ഭാഗങ്ങളും താൽപ്പര കക്ഷികളുടെ കയ്യിലാണ്. അത് വീണ്ടെടുക്കണം. ഇവിടന്നു സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ കൂടുതലുള്ള ട്രെയിനുകൾ ആരംഭിക്കാം. ബാംഗ്ലൂറും, ബോംബെയും, ഡെല്ലി യും പോലെ ഇവിടം ഒരു വലിയ ആധുനിക സൗകര്യങ്ങളുള്ള ടെർമിനേസ് ആക്കി മാറ്റം. എല്ലാമുണ്ടിവിടെ. എറണാകുളം കാര് പോലും മറന്നുപോയി. റെയിൽവേയുടെ മുന്നിൽ ഈ വിഷയം കൊണ്ട് വരാൻ ആരെങ്കിലും തുണിയുമോ.
