Porsche 928 Compression Test: Low compression

  • In the last video on the 1980 Porsche 928 S Euro Spec, we sorted some electrical issues and got the engine to crank over. Today we check the compression and overall health of the engine before we proceed with buying parts. Unfortunately, Bank 1 one was substantially lower than Bank 2. This could be a headgasket issue but I suspect the rings are dry from sitting. Fingers crossed the compression will improve once the car is running again.

Hey, nice to see a fellow 928'er on CZcams! So, the airbox will slide out to the left (as you stand at the front of the car, looking towards back). You just needed to undo the big bolt in the plenum chamber (it reaches down and holds the airbox in place). At will save you having to undo all the runners/plenum.

Hey how are you planning on fixing the paint? I have a black one with the same issue and severity

Hi Artemio. The brown Porsche is a customer car. He said he will likely paint after we have it running. The Blue 928 in my other videos belongs to me. I will likely try my hand at wrapping it down the road.
