Cory added a lot to this review. Well done.
Sandy has trouble letting ppl speak
@@brich2929 well it is his ship so……
I like Corey. Talks well.
Yes well done Cory 👍
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this video as well as the Elon Musk video
Making cars better for everyone. Cory, Sandy, CZcams , Buyers, Ford Engineers all communicating, getting feedback.
In my opinion this channel's biggest benefit is to consumers nervous or on the fence about whether to steer their hard earned money towards an EV. The information provided by Munro & Associates in invaluable. EV makers can learn from the channel too.
It's very nice to see Ford give Sandy and friends access. I hope they're paying them for consulting
Arcadius you give credit to people and companies that deserve condemnation. To others you give too little credit.
As someone that tows electric almost every day, the selectable trailer type is a bloody clever idea.
How is towing with electric? Curious, I don't need tons of towing every day, but it'd be nice to know I can tow at least 80km if needs arise, :)
@@Xyler94 It mainly depends on how aerodynamic the trailer is, and towing speed.
We have a caged trailer with 6 240 litre bins standing up in it. At average speeds of around 80kmh we loose about 20% range.
Previously we had 3 bins lying down in an uncaged trailer and a very full car, and lost about 10%.
We collect about a ton of bread over three 50km trips in a week.
Cant wait for thhis Teardown!!!
Sandy - The respect FORD showed you and Cory, is so wonderful and appreciated.
Preemptive strike.
They need to after the mache debacle in their thermal management and fastner (to many) and connection isssues(to many)
Etc
Oh the frunk has cupholders. It’s a winner
@@brettmciver432 You really need to stop with that bullshit.
@@brettmciver432 So you want to talk about Tesla. Let's do shall we.
"Tesla's Reliability Ratings Are Pretty Concerning But Does Anyone Actually Care?"
In fact, the brand was ranked the lowest of 32 brands in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey. The reasoning behind the low ranking? Build quality issues. According to the survey, Tesla received a score of 205 problems per 100 vehicles, marking the highest among all of the automotive brands surveyed
I got a kick out of the look on Corey's face when they talked about the Frunk....his eyes said
Look at all the room for BEER!
Now Sandy's longer years of experience really shined when he compared the rear suspension to the Challenger tank, doubt many would have that depth of experience.....overall, good to see Ford making some serious strides forward in many areas.
If they were really smart they would partner with an appliance manufacturer and develop a custom fridge fitted precisely for that frunk.

Everyone makes a big deal that this truck will kill or be better than that truck..

Maybe it was a fuel tank...
@@tophan5146 Challenger is a British main battle tank :)
The part that is really nuts is he said that is the only other place he has seen suspension like the F150 EV has.
we need a breakdown series on that
But is it electric? 🤔
What is amazing to me is how they found space for HVAC and everything else with that huge Front Trunk using so much of the available engineering real-estate. Would love to see a teardown of the Lightning to see how they did it.
Of course the truck is way bigger than the mache and they've probably used the same HVAC system.

Now this a real advertisement instead of their ridiculous ones on commercials with the “deep manly voice” with it driving in some scenic view.
Honestly, it's very refreshing. I was fascinated by the 1950's automotive advertisements that would go into the engineering reasons their cars were better than their competitors', with little scale models to illustrate the systems. Now they resort to only trying to convey a "feeling" in the ads.
They do that because it’s simply more effective.
agree, Ford's commercials are maybe for midwestern people frozen in time 25 years ago?
They must be doing something right to be the number one selling vehicle for 44 years. Just saying!
I worked as a contractor for years out of a 3/4 ton quad cab chevy diesel with a trailer of varying sorts in tow every day. I was blown away at the reveal of the Lightning. There's no gas or electric truck that i could even think of that's more suited to outfitting a fleet for almost any industry. Alhough, we still need heavy investment into more range and much better charging infrastructure to make it a complete package for every use case scenario.
I like the relaxed back and forth from you two, have a clearer picture of your impressions. Very well done by Cory as well!
There is a scene in "I robot" Movie where they say exactly that "Please tell me this does'nt run on gas! Gas explodes, you know?"
😂🤣 I had been thinking about a few days ago!!!
What she said was WAY ahead for it’s time.
Looking at the skateboard platform with the bed and cab off I can't wait to see the custom projects people turn it into.
Thanks for the long video, I was anticipating a quick 5 minute walk around and was surprised with a great initial run down, can't wait for the teardown!
Glad you enjoyed it!
3:28 when she said 400 pound payload, sandy missed an opportunity to say: two bodies, good
A few months ago, when the Lighting was first announced, my mind was blown 🤯 at the idea of a “frunk”.
Now I enjoying my ride of the all electric, hybrid, hybrid plus in hype train!!!
My first thought was how may kidnapped people are gonna get tossed “in the frunk”.
I was into forensics as a kid. Yes. I looked up multiple cases and read horrible things.
My mind tends to go to dark places pretty quick as a result…..
It seems like some of the "features" like the folding gear selector could have been easily fixed by simply not having a lever sticking up where you want a flat surface
good point, have the gear shift on the steering column so we can have a bench front seat in case we need to have 6 passengers.
Ford did a lot research on this. Most truck buyers like the shifter on the console. Ford could just stick a dial on the dash like Ram does or shifter on the column with lower tiers. Ford buyers like the console shifter plain and simple. And they pay more to get it.
I think most people are missing the point, that the legacy auto makers have always and are still subscribing to the mantra that they are putting as many parts into the vehicles as possible so they can maintain their spare parts business going forward! They certainly don't subscribe to the Elon Musk mantra that the best part is NO PART! E.g. example the Mach E has 35 hoses where I don't believe that the Ford Engineers are that stupid!
@@paulnichols5981 conspiracy theories. If Ford was in parts business they would be selling parts like crazy right. Parts shortage is real. Ford is in car business not in parts business.
why would you ever need to put your hand on the shifter after you get moving?
Thanks Munroe Live. I could feel your excitement about this truck and I'm hanging on every little tidbit you have to drop.
4:05 Ford drain hole! Made me search back to Sandy’s jubilant discovery in Mach E, out take to grab supplies, “this makes uncle sandy very happy”, slips in a drain pan, grabs the ice bag, flicked his blade with flair, 2 beers in hand. Hands gesturing: “This is intuitive design” (moves beer into holder). Man i love this channel!
What I was impressed most by was how much Ford understates the range on a charge. The range is based on a truck with 1000 lbs in the bed. Without the load, the range goes up enormously.
Even 2,000 lbs. in the bed won’t effect the range nearly as much as a small (2,000 lb.) trailer.
@@TraditionalAnglican Yes,our friend air resistance.
not true, not even close. its about a 2-3% difference
@@protovack I recall reading that the Model X had great mileage if not towing a trailer, but had much worse mileage with a trailer in tow. Some couple on CZcams posted their experience with it.
490 is the unladen range of the Ford. They’ll spill beans in march. No need to tip off ev makers or Ford buyers now
Super pumped for the F-150 lightning to be released and see the breakdown done by Munro!
Awesome to see the OEMS come crawling to Munro because they know people trust and love him!
It's very obvious Ford has been taking notes, open for continuous improvements , Would like to see a complete tear down
Good because Ford customer service is non existent. They’ll drop you like a hot rock as soon as you drive off.
I’m in the Mafia & I also really like the drain in the frunk..
And, bonus, you could fit several bags of concrete in there too!
Should make it easier to wash all that blood out.
If you can power open and close the frunk while driving, this thing would be like a live action Pac-Man. Another possible convenience for the mafia.
@@baptistpope That begs the question..Can this truck tow a freezer..
@@DQ-su6qf it could certainly power a freezer.
I guess the reason they will start producing the cheaper version immediately is they can get away with the smallest battery in it. It makes sense because they're definitely limited by battery supply.
If they have limited Battery supply they should only sell the high priced ones to get max dollars out of the limited batteries.
@@tomcrouchman Sell more lower trim battery wise, but up sell on accessories and bolt-ons.
usually it's the highest margin models first.
Ford will only be able to make a few tens of thousands of these for the first few years. Maybe 15K in 2022. Maybe 30K in 2023.
If they make more than 30K in 2022, I will come back here and eat my hat.
I have not heard of limited battery supply specifically impacting Ford. SK is building the cells for this truck. Two additional dedicated plants are being built by SK in the US to supply up to 360GWh in cells.
That Frunk and the external power have me sold, who wouldn't want one of these.
Ordered mine the 2nd day the orders opened. I cannot wait.
Just great! Looking forward to more in-depth analyses of the Ford F150 Lightning and.. a tear down somewhere in the near future?
Well I love the Cyber Truck and have ordered one but the Ford does look great.

@@MunroLive it seems you did a bit of editing in the video. I don't think Sandy responded to your comment about the Ford team "bustling". How did he see it?
Ford really do seem to be the dark horse OEM to watch in the race to transition to EV.
Their vehicle manufacturing experience is showing with the Lightning.
...until Wallstreet sees their earnings once they begin shipping EVs.
@@oisiaa That’s the big question. Tesla is battery constrained. How many lithium suppliers and battery manufacturers are there that Tesla and Volkswagen don’t already have contracts with?
@@wattlebough They're cranking out Mach Es and all the major battery suppliers and OEMs are fucking hustling to increase capacity. Look at teslas new facility in Berlin, Daimlers new battery plans, LG, Panasonic etc. These are multibillion dollar companies and they know they need to secure battery supply.
Not really!
Oh wow! I feel like I’m seated with Munro and the other guy in the same room. Their conversation style is so refreshing and informative.
What? The Lightning has a similar suspension to a challenger tank? Awesome!!
Sandy's videos are what gave my wife and I the confidence to pull the trigger on our Tesla Model Y. I look forward to continued updates on the f150.

Looks really good and along those lines say for camping this parked up next to tent in a cold area with an electric heater fed in. Perfect!!
With the Cybertruck you don’t need a tent. I’m assuming the back seats fold down and bed opens to the interior, then just put it in Camp Mode, works great on my MS.

Well this was a pleasant surprise.
ikr! I still think that Ford will only have a little while in the sun as the ultimate utility is in the range, performance and price and the Cybertruck is too much better and cheaper, but there is real excitement in the creativity and innovation that went into this design. If they could combine it with a Tesla battery-pack though, there may be a broad market for it.
@@alaricgoldkuhl155 you mean when and if the Cybertruck comes out. Its been postponed yet again. But that doesn't matter because Ford has been the number one selling vehicle for the last 44 yrs and for a good reason. Ever hour of the day Ford sells 100 F-150 for 365 days of the year. Remember one's a lifestyle truck and the other is a common luxury work truck. People who own them don't have to buy new tool boxes, campers and bedcovers. And its large percentage of the state and government agencies workforce trucks are Ford F-150's. Not including the private sector and all of the loyal customers and contractors who have been purchasing them for years and decades. Not everyone wants a Cybertruck my friend and you can trust me on that one. They will both have a strong cult following but for completely different reasons.
@@twany442 I hope so dude. It would be a shame if a company with such an amazing history died after a hundred years because they missed the EV boat. The levels of innovation in this model are higher than perhaps any Ford product in decades which is encouraging. We need them focusing on the drive-train basics now though.
@@alaricgoldkuhl155 Nothing is wrong with the drive train. What re you talking about it's all new system. So please explain what you're trying to say?
@@twany442 Cybertruck claims more capacity: 3,500 pounds of payload, compared to the F-150’s 1,800 pounds; and 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, compared to 10,000 pounds. These are the specs that matter, and my hope is that Ford can close the gap a little at least. They are already likely to be selling their F150s at a loss in order to compete on price (makes sense since paying your best competition for regulatory credits is a nightmare), so I fear this won't happen anytime soon.
Sticking with my CT but I hope Ford succeeds here and changes the mind of many diehards.

@Antoine Swans Re: Reply to Clara Smith. Gigapressed parts are intended to solve "accumulated misfitment" issues. Side effects are eliminating parts, fasteners, robots, drudgery, & other things that kludge things up, consume time, & add cost. Good to see Ford partially following suit to use large (not quite giga) casted parts.
The car will easily be written off. Tesla sucks for repairability
@@vidznstuff1 Teslas are middle-of-the-pack for repairability. Model 3/Y are better than the old S/X, and the situation is rapidly improving.
Some common repairs have become much more convenient than conventional models. Tesla now makes pre-painted bumper covers for the 3/Y. That is a major decrease in time and expense. Sure, doing that is made easier by only having 6 colors and using mobil service supported by regional centers, but you can't deny that is an advantage.
Tesla also does automatic ADAS alignment and calibration. That might not seem like an obscure detail, but compare it to something like the Audi Q7. Bumper cover replacement requires the dealer to "recalibrate" the ADAS cameras and radar for a typical additional charge $650-$800.
The best part is no part. If you don’t have a shift lever, you don’t have to fold it down.
Cool to see Ford go all-in on electric trucks. Hope the ready of the OEMs get moving, too. The future is electric . . . love it.
Good insight from Cory. Like the collaborative discussion.
That stupid, complicated shift lever should just be a button, or small column stalk.
Yup. Picture the BlackBerry evolving to the iPhone, and that’s the way the driver interface needs to go. Get rid of the clutter. Ford isn’t there yet - still too many buttons and gadgets - but the Lightening is a big leap forward.
Thank you guys!! The future looks bright!!
people doing business with their trucks are much colder in their calculation for ROI and that jazz ev win on that front. And they also have more predictable daily patterns, with is a great fit for EV. Smart move from Ford.
Fleets are going to love these. Work 8-5 plug and it in over night. Lower operating costs. Less downtime.
Fleets is what keeps ford in business. This is perfect for that.
That screen should run the job site - it needs project management software, pricing, inventory management, accounts, drawings, plans, permissions & permits all there on screen. The productivity and efficiency gains for SME's would be incredible.
I think they are better of using a laptop.
If only Ford had an HDMI port that could allow you to use it as an external display with a laptop. That would be tremendously useful - even in portrait mode.
@@Megaphonix USB-C could do the job, I have a laptop connected to two screens with just one USB-C cable and that supports an external keyboard and mouse connected to the screens as well.

The main question is…… can the OEM’s actually ramp production of these vehicles.
they did that since many centuries. the only real significant problems happened at newbies like tesla. they almost went bankrupt because of that.

I love that news that Ford will also be selling the fleet class vehicles! Love that it wasn't just a paper launch!
Wow, an electric pickup truck has so much going for it. Thanks to Tesla’s efforts to kick off the EV revolution!
I have never been a fan of Tesla cars except for the fact that they are fast. They are rolling bloatware stuffed with pointless gadgetry that makes them nearly unserviceable. Unfortunately, this is exactly why they were able to sell cars. Countless other companies had tried and failed to build an electric car market from the bottom up by making cheap ones that had the appeal of never having to buy gas. Tesla built their market from the top down. They started with expensive cars that only wealthy people could afford and sold them by appealing to their vanity and need to virtue signal. Only then, did they even attempt to get into the mass market. It really was a genius move to go after the people with money to waste on disposable cars first. They still dont seem to be able to make simple, reliable cars with real gauges and normal door handles that can be fixed by an average mechanic. They complicate it further by blocking access to information about their cars. After 10 years of ownership, the Ford truck is much more likely to be useful than the cybertruck.
@@michaellowe3665 I think "right to repair" laws will address that. You have to give Tesla credit for lighting a fire under the butts of legacy car makers to produce serious EVs,not just compliance vehicles. Now you can get good EVs from GM and Ford. Tesla is about to release a $25K Model 2 that will help the average bloke afford an EV.
@@mikedunn7795 if you follow Tesla's history, that 25k model will start as a 40k model. They will finally sell a few of them at 25k 2 years after it comes out to meet their promise price, then they will stop selling it after a couple months and claim no one wanted it. Even if they score big gains in the battery cost, inflation is about to make the 25k electric car a pipe dream. Affordable cars are used cars that are over 10 years old. Since there is and may never be an affordable replacement battery market, electric cars will remain disposable.
@@michaellowe3665 " Even if they score big gains in the battery cost, inflation is about to make the 25k electric car a pipe dream" I heard the same thing when Tesla announced the projected price for the Model 3. TaDa, they did it! If you'd like to cite your references as to inflation projections on the specific battery industry, I'd be happy to see it. Otherwise, you sound uninformed. Your "affordable cars are used cars" is also a criticism of subjective affordability. If you personally cannot afford a new car, buy used. But to compare a decade-old used car to a new car in value is senseless.
@@justsomeguy934 they did what? The model 3 was supposed to be 35k. They didn't sell many at that price. They sold only higher trim models at first, then sold the 35k model for a short time, then claimed no one bought it so they stopped selling it, and raised the base price. If you dont know that, you are uninformed. Most of the ones they sell are still 50k or more. I'm not comparing new cars to 10 year old ones. I'm stating that 50k is not affordable to most people. Even if they can afford it, they find it wasteful to dump that much money on a disposable appliance. Cars are only new once, so most of the market is used cars. Meanwhile, other car companies are selling 20k new cars that can drive 2000 miles on a trip without adding an extra day just for charging. Gas is not so expensive that it offsets the cost of interest on a 50k loan. Most people live in reality bound by the laws of economics. For that reason, Tesla will have trouble penetrating the market place of people with basic math skills.
I think the utility will convert a lot of owners to this type of vehicle. It will not take long.
It's what sold me and my wife. Put our pre-order money very early. I like that we can use almost any accessory that was developed for a regular F-150. I also like that it looks like a truck, so we won't attract too much attention.
I also bring up the local tradesman. If the truck can get 100 or so miles while fully loaded, never requires a stop at a gas station, never gets taken off duty for an oil change, and doesn't wear the engine out idling during the summer/winter for climate control, it will be revolutionary.
The shielding underneath is good news. I’m a civil engineer, and we have to drive our trucks off road frequently. However, knowing how my boss is, I’m guessing we’ll be getting our first ev trucks around 2040 or so.
just realised something , about the F 150 , the fact that the battery is isolated from the frame is very unique. it occurs to me that this could possibly operate like a tuned mass damper , as used in F 1 cars. or in a sky scraper to prevent it swaying. Having the battery isolated could possibly lead to a super smooth ride.
