Whilst I still support the manager and believe in what he is trying to achieve I have certain reservations that I didn't have before concerning his stubbornness during a game to persist with both his tactics and selected players. The Chelsea "down to 9 men" match was a somewhat impressive gung ho and cavalier approach which thrilled the fans but there have been too many similar and embarrassing defeats to other teams since then. I am constantly reminded of the fable for The Willow tree and The Oak tree when facing the storm. One bent and adapted to the conditions but the other tried to stay firm and proud which ending in it cracking and falling. There's a lesson there or Ange and that is it's NOT a sign of weakness to sometimes dilute your beliefs and values with a small measure of caution and common sense in order to avoid defeat.

Sean you are correct. We need to be patient with the process. I think that the Tottenham fans want success in a minute, what is understandable. I look at the process in Sporting Portugal and I think this is the way. Get specific players and bet on the new values coming from the academy. But at Tottenham, there is the fear of the player "not working"... the pressure... wtf... if you play for Tottenham you need to feel the pressure! If you want to win, you need that pressure! This is what defines the players we have. And Ange need to count them as assets, not "covers" to the 1st team.

Spot on with the talk of World class players, they hardly ever go to clubs that win nothing or consistently look like challenging, this fallacy that they will choose us is deluded.
Our only choice is to build, and to build a stronger squad than we've ever had, we dont need superstars, we need brave, technical players with good mentality to fit our budget.
And let the experts do it, not the board.

Let's let Ange do his job and build a team that can compete, because that's what he does. If he gets the players he wants and the system doesn't work, then he'll have to change something or move on. If you look at the successful clubs over the past few years have had a manager at the helm over 5 years. Tottenham Hotspur at this moment in time lack the ability to do the right things in term of buying quality players. Look, we had one of the greatest strikers of all time for 10 years, and didn't build around him. We all see where that got us. If you've got the foundation, and just lack that one phenomenal player to take you over the line, yeah, time to spend 100m on the right player.

Arsenal and Liverpool wouldn't be where they are now if they didn't give Arteta and Klopp the time they needed to build their squad and implement there style of play. It really pisses me off that people are Ange out after 1 season yet we are way ahead of where we were this time last year. Sean, mate. Well-reasoned and well-balanced post as usual. I, personally, don't see an issue with our existing squad of players changing to a different system under a new manager. My reason is simple. With a mainly attacking system it is easier to tweak it and be more defensive. With the defenders we have in our existing squad we could easily adapt to a back-4, or a back-5. As most games are won or lost in midfield, it's then just of question whether we would play a 6 and 2 x 8s in midfield, or a 6, 8 and 10. I believe who ever follows Ange, will have a good squad of players who can play various systems.

    Hi Sean,
I respect and hear what you are saying, and as far as it goes, I agree you have to start somewhere and build from there.
The problem I have with Ange is that I cant back him just for continuities sake, because I see his foundation as flawed.
Football is played with myriad moving parts and tactics. Ange's way only covers one aspect and ignores how oppositions might respond.
As in anything you have to play to your strengths, or mould what strengths you have into a cohesive unit that everyone involved can understand. All I see with Ange's system is a charge of the 'light brigade', which unfortunately with our resources will not be improved.
We go into battle each match day with what stragglers have survived and tell them to charge again, despite what physical and mental scars they have suffered. And they know each time they are being thrown to the wolves, unless by some miracle, on this day it works.
Ange's foundations don't include all aspects of what is required to build on a sound basis for the future. Any future manager would have to start building a team with due diligence to all of its parts and their respective roles within the whole anyway.
So I don't see the point of wasting time and precious resources with continuing a process, that will demand so much, and as we have seen during the past 15 to 20 games, delivered so little.
Most of our players have got a lot of talent; They just need a good General who can see the bigger picture, to motivate them as a team to play at their best. COYS.

If Levy continues to back him and allows him to shape the team in his vision and play his style of football? I beleive his stay with us will be longer than Poch. Also we will see a number of trophies in future with Ange at the helm. Pitience is a virtue! Hope these few fickle fans can come to terms with this. Wholeheartedly agree with you, Sean. We do have a lot of players to move on … my hope is that we can use a number of them in possible part-exchange deals - especially where funding a striker is concerned. How about offering say a Troy Parrot as part of deal for Santiago Giminez or Ivan Toney.
There are a number of other possibilities, perhaps using say Oliver Skipp, Japhat Tanganga or Lo Celso (I feel for Lo Celso because I don’t think he’s been given a fair crack of the whip, especially considering Maddison’s struggles for form!).
Then there’s Djed Spence at Genoa, maybe a makeweight in a deal for Albert Gudmundsson. Sergio Reguilon might consider moving to Italy in exchange for backup to Destiny Udogie or another CB. It seems Leeds desperately want Joe Rodon. That’s without mentioning Tanguy Ndombele, whom we might have to give away!
On another front, really hope we reintegrate Alfie Devine and Ash Phillips into the 1st Team Squad when they return from Plymouth.
The mind boggles with the potential deals which could be made over the Summer!
Thanks as always for your thought-provoking posts, Sean, with a special mention to your special researcher, Buggy Malone - Ozzie sends his best to her!

If we are to build a squad of true quality and ambition then without a doubt we need a Fire Sale this Summer. Every other club knows we have to offload quite a bit of dross but Daniel has to bite the bullet on this one and stop past mistakes affecting Ange's future plans. Do the sales first regardless of how low the incoming bids are and see exactly how much we have available (legally) to spend afterwards. Then go out and bring in two or three top players on which to build and improve on the ones already at the club.Let prospective new signings see first hand that Spurs mean business and have finally drained the swamp.

And Then he wonders Why no teams wanna deal with spurs. And they would rather sell the player CHEAPER to another club rather than us, which is frustrating. I don't think Slevy has the patience to see out this Ange Project sadly. And we Spurs Fan's are deluded thinking we should be winning things with subpar team at best. Cut your losses SPURSYs...the bloke isnt EPL level....Ive watched his teams for 30 years and he is only good at MickeyMouse level....Some players get bought into EPL and dont make the grade, its same with managers...Lets see what results in next 3 games...6 points is the minimum.Any less and ITS SACK TIME!
