    4 goals in 14 games. Other Striker alternatives get criticised for not scoring for a couple of matches, but not Toney,who became elite at 28, during his ban 🤡. Why did all the other teams backed down on him? 🤔 and why do Brentford ask half the price from Jan.

    Sean, mate. My objection to Toney, is that he is 28 years old, and 50m, plus wages is too much to pay in my opinion. I, do, however, believe Marcus Edwards would be a quality, squad addition. COYS.

      Brentford manager likes reguilon and he would at least be sold for 20 to 25 million. If spurs can sell him to brentford and take toney it would be great deal for both. And that toney transfer would come down. And toney has premier league experience.

    I watch Edwards regularly for Sporting here in Lisbon and he's a tricky little player but he's not the standard that we require and doesn't even start regular for Sporting anymore, I wouldn't rate him higher than Solomon tbh.

      I think that's why there's rumours for him and Walker-Peters, it's just signings to fill the "home grown at club" rules for Europe. I think Noni Madueke would count as home-grown at club too so that might be a better signing for Spurs than Gallagher if Chelsea do need to sell then they'd probably consider selling him if they got their money back as I think they've got quite a few wingers anyway.
      That's also why I think they're buying 18 year olds like Bergvall and Vuskovic, if you get them when they are 18 and they stay at the club for 3 consecutive years then they count as homegrown at club (which is the lowest age now since Brexit, we can't get Fabregas at 16 like Arsenal did). If they got out on loan to a team in England I think they'll count as "homegrown" but I think Spurs want the "homegrown at club" as that will make it easier for them in a few years time if they are in Europe.

    I remember Sporting saying we forfeited the sell on clause as part of the Porro deal. In any case, I still wouldn't have Edwards. He's essentially another gamble we'll have to sit with for 4 years. We need to start signing ready made players, the academy boys can fill these other spots. The lack of depth might hurt us short term but I'd much rather that than dealing with another Ndombele/Lo Celso case.
    Much rather do Eze or Olise with the second signing being Toney. We can always give Timo a 3 year contract on reduced wages.

    He placed 13 bets on his team to lose. 29 bets on club he registered with. He shared inside information to others and uses 3rd party accounts to place bets. He also gave false answers to the investigation. Well, that's a lot of red flags to ignore. This is far worse than arrogance.

    We definitely need a striker who can lean up against a defender, stay strong, and win the 50/50. You'd think richarlison could do it but he ends up on the floor 90% of the time. Even taiwo awoniyi would do a better job leading the line than our current 9s.

  • @rohank1982
    @rohank1982 Před měsícem +1

    Sesko is probably not possible but he’d be first choice. Need a clause in toneys contract so we don’t pay him if banned to keep him honest. I like Edwards but probably means Kulu is mainly 8/10 going forward and I’d still want Eze to do a similar thing on the left. But those 3 for Gil Solomon Perisic/werner and GLC would be a big step up in the final third

  • @rhysjaggar4677
    @rhysjaggar4677 Před měsícem

    The other question to raise about Marcus Edwards is his size. That's not a red flag, just a question as to whether he can cope with the physicality of the EPL - the question asked about Bryan Gil, after all. Edwards is only 1.68m. I'd be most interested in any winger's ability to cross both on the ground and onto a striker's head. Spurs really, really lost out this season through Perisic's injury. People were asking 'what if VdV had been fit all season?' I ask the same about Perisic. I think much of the fan vitriol about Johnson is masking the fact that, when he came in, it was likely his first season would be as a squad player/impact subsitute, but when both Solomon and Perisic were goners, he was thrust in earlier than expected. Perisic is the sort of standard of crossing recruiters should be benchmarking against. A winger worth EPL wages should be able to cross accurately to near post, far post and the penalty spot and shouldn't be giving the goalkeeper catching practice. It's also arguable that they should be able to cross with both feet, since that means a defender doesn't have the option of just pushing them onto their weaker foot. I'd rather a slightly less impressive athlete that delivers pin point crosses and can bamboozle defenders than a sprinter that misfires 50% of crosses, to be honest.
    Both Olmo and Edwards are not prolific goalscorers, so they should be judged on their goal contributions rather than scoring exploits, probably.
    Ivan Toney: you could easily say that any contract signed contains 'consequences clauses' regarding a return to gambling. No pay if any suspension is incurred, any sign on bonus released on a yearly basis over the contract and cancelled if any regression occurs. There's no point being held to ransom - Toney is quite expensive and alternatives exist if his agent starts getting silly. But you need a striker to be arrogant and a bit selfish at the top level. So if Toney is realistic, humble and honest about all of that, there should be ways to find a deal acceptable to all parties in principle. You could also structure a deal with bigger incentives toward the end of the contract i.e. more guaranteed pay year 1, less year 4 but more 'pay as you score' incentives. That's a way to keep a player hungry throughout a contract and a way to minimise the risk uncertainties of the future for the club. It also makes a player more saleable as their guaranteed salary becomes more affordable for slightly smaller clubs (if you think his Tottenham move is to be the highest level he will get at club level if things go well at Spurs). Obviously, if he does so well that the absolute elite clubs come calling, his salary won't be a hindrance to them.

    Was annoyed when we sold Edwards, more of a dribbler and quicker than Deki but similarly goes left a lot but at least there is productivity or attempts at productivity whenever he does! Interestingly Edwards needs a player good in the air like Toney (or Veliz) to exploit his crosses. Would take both despite wage demands and not approving of Toney’s betting issues.

  • @DF-ih5wl
    @DF-ih5wl Před měsícem

    There are couple ways to look at his situation at Brentford. 1. It's really bad if he is running down his contract after the damage he done to Brentford. 2. Brentford wanted to sell him asap because he already lost team mates. He has no future at Brentford. 3. Gambling addiction is a risk for longer bans in the future. You sign Toney for 40-50m. If he gambles again, how you replace your star striker in mid season? Your 50m striker becomes worthless.

  • @MathewBall
    @MathewBall Před měsícem +1

    Edwards is a good player he is home grown and from the Tottenham area and Tottenham trained. Nonetheless, is he going to improve our squad, yes, he does. But the problem with our squad is Solomon, Johnson, Warner, are poor quality and need replacing this summer. Edwards is better than them, definitely. But thats partly because how poor quality our front wingers are not fully down to that Edwards is better than them in every way ability wise. Even Son could be moved on considering his age and some of his preformenses this season. I'm uncertain of selling Son because he is still our best player for Spurs! Overall, I'm uncertain whether Edwards is a good enough quality signing considering who is out there to purchase this summer and the fact that Edwards doesn't start regularly for his club. 🤔

On Marcus, we should never of sold him in the first place, he was a great talent, but I would take him back as long as the fee is not astronomical!! I think our sell on clause is only 20% now, there was a reduction of it included in the Porro deal, I'm not 100% on this though. Wasn't Edwards' sell on fee waived as part of the deal that brought Porro in? Don't see Toney happening. Ange is big on attitude issues. Feeling Giminez is the most likely. Don Fabio seems to have already laid the ground work. Also Make weight options, e.g. Veliz going to Feynoord on loan as part of the deal or indeed Vangelis Pavlidis could also work. Has scored more goals than Giminez this season in Eredivisie. Big, strong boy. Kind of player for English game. Veliz could head to AZ on loan as part of the deal. Edwards - how does Bryian Gil and 15 MN sound Great for all parties concerned from my side. One guy needs to resurrect his career. The other needs to take his resurrected career to the next level.

    Ivan Toney is such an addict that he has to gamble SPECIFICALLY on games he’s not allowed to gamble on. Just to get that same rush. Meh. 😊
