We really just have one goal - to make your food life better. Ok that, and be entertained at the same time. And have you learn a few things along the way. So letâs make it 3 goals then.
If you only want the steps to make something, like those vids shot from above with no people, no conversation no nuthin - then we are absolutely not for you. But if you wanna a little fun while you learn, then this is the place.
Cooking doesnât have to be hard, it just has to be delicious.

I love that you guys leave bits like the whole rain disaster in. Makes it feel like more than another cooking channel.
I always put up one of my canopies for weather or even falling leaves . It really comes down to preference. I've deep fried turkeys for years and now my family is hooked on the smoked turkeys off of my 250 gallon offset smoker. I started with two and now I cook for my community. It's a good thing we like to BBQ here in Texas đ
I feel like a lot of content creators would opt to cancel and redo everything with the weather issues you faced. The dedication is refreshing.

Easy to use touch screen, can stop and re-set time czcams.com/users/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB and temp at any point in the cooking process, unlike some of these (an Ultrean model we returned) that need to time down first to re-set, which waste power and time. Stays cool externally and the 3 beeps when done aren't that bad, 5 beeps for Shake reminder on the pre-sets. So far chiken, pork chops, grilled cheese, hot dogs, asparagus with prosciutto, frozen sweet potato fries, have all turned out really well. Holds 4 average drummies which works well for 2 people. The recipe booklet is great. This size unit doesn't take up too much space on the counter-top so that's a bonus. We're looking forward to using it even more in the summer instead of the oven, to keep the house cooler when we aren't barbequing. Less cleanup than with an oven. The detachable inner basket is easy to use, no problem with the screws as some have commented, but a simple screw driver would remedy that if it happens. We really love this little gizmo!!
Iâve deep fried maybe 80 turkeys in the past 20+ years. I started out with the traditional propane deep frying method but now I use the Butterball Masterbuilt XL deep fryer and itâs so much more convenient and cheaper. You donât use as much oil and you use no propane. Both birds will turn out great either way but I personally think the electric deep fryer has a slight edge. Great video!
Electric one is a stress free game changer.
Did he say how long it takes in the electric fryer?
@@xboog1ex for sure!! đđđ»
@@indcsion it takes 3 1/2 minutes per lb in the Butterball Electric Fryer. I can deep fry a 17 lb Turkey in slightly over an hour.
I have found when deep frying turkeys, that the sweet spot for the most tender and juicy birds are between 14-16 lbs. at least thatâs been my experience. Hope that helps!
@@darthvaydr thank you
We've been using the oil-less Charbroil one for years and love it. You could leave it a little longer with the lid on and get it more brown than you did, but it will never be as beautiful as that deep fried bird. The big advantage to all 3 of these is that you aren't tying up your oven cooking the bird, so you can work on all your other Thanksgiving dishes.
The lid should only come on at the final 30 minutes of cooking time.
It never rains in california...unless Sam decides to deep fry three turkeys at the same time.

I have deep fried a turkey all three ways you have shown. I currently use an electric indoor oil fryer. Years ago I first used the propane fryer and I want to say thank you. You did everything that I did in using that propane oil fryer including the way you measure how much oil to put into the pot, how to prepare the bird, and all the safety aspects dealing with using a propane oil fryer.
Deep frying a turkey for me is the best way to cook a turkey. All forms of cooking have their dangerous aspects, but if one will take their time and exercise some care it can be a very satisfying and enjoyable experience.
I live in southern California and enjoyed him cooking in the rain while I listened to the rain. Pretty funny watching him run around đ
Teresa Z. I live in San Diego itâs raining hard right now, freaking awesome
YES, and I use my WEBER for over 30 years! Always perfectly beautiful looking, tasting and leftovers only for sandwiches later!! Easy to do, while having a cool glass of Chardonnay!
I've had the Charbroil oiless fryer for 4 years and by far the easiest to use, turkey comes out fantastic. I've done an entire chicken, wings, a pork shoulder, and Prime Rib for Christmas dinner. You can't go wrong with it. Great video Sam, Happy Thankgiving to you all.
Another great video by Sam and gang, always like the everyday cook vibe. The rain in this one was I know not expected but brilliant nonetheless. You donât get that on any other cooking show! Keep up the great work, Iâll keep watching
I am subscribing because this was an excellent video - it is greatly appreciated that you spent an incredible amount of money to demonstrate for all of us. Mostly impressed that despite ALL the challenges you pushed through. I would have had an existential meltdown. Total respect and follow!! Thank you again!
Injected with Tonyâs creole butter is another option to look into
wes monk most definitely đđŸ
People actually cook turkeys without that?
I was disappointed he didnât inject them!!!
Facts
Absolutely and I also hit the outside with the Tony Chachere's creole seasoning. Then we fry in the crawfish pot with peanut oil. Best ever! YEEYEE!!
I love the old school deep fried turkey thatâs the best kind
on the value discussion, he forgot to add the cost of oil, that stuff ain't cheap
Chad Winters I spent about $70 on oil for 6 gallons. But it was worth every penny when I heard everyone say this is the best turkey they ever had! I also did the propane and oil setup.
When I started frying 20 years ago, 5 gallons of peanut oil was about $16. Now itâs typically between $25-30 for 3.5 gallons of peanut/soy blend and I have to buy 2 because 3.5 isnât enough to fry an 18 pound bird. Still worth the money but I usually take care of my oil and try to fry 2-3 turkeys a year. HAPPY THANKSGIVING đŠ
Reuse the oil thatâs the best way to lower the cost
Watching this video has basically become a yearly tradition for me around Thanksgiving time. Iâve actually bought all three of these cookers and love them, but I never would have known about the electric and infrared if not for your video. Thanks, Sam!
P.S. - I always laugh like hell at the rain bit.

Iâve been using the Butterball electric fryer for 3 years now. I always do it in the kitchen right on the countertop. Makes the house smell amazing!! People who normally donât like turkey eat it up and love it!! Best $100 I ever spent!
Exactly the same as you report, although I do it outside, under a canopy for safety sake. And the wife prefers the oil smell not to be in the house. I have been doing fried for about 6 years, and the electric Butterball fryer for 3-4. Rave reviews from everyone. They request I do it every year when they are here. :) Great video! Thanks for sharing. I WAS going to buy The Big Easy Oil-less fryer, but now I think I'm going to stick with the electric.
@@JimHearn I've been using the butterball for the same amount of time as you and do it outside just as a precaution. Everyone loves it but this year I'm going to attempt the salt brine that he used.
Do you save the oil? And if so how long does it last after first use?
@@mightyirish22 I save the oil. Put it back in the original plastic container which is encased in a cardboard box (to keep light out). Yes I use it several times
I have been using the electric deep fried butterball for 8 years running now, first one to test it out, actually invented it you can thank me later....
This may be my favorite youtube video! The rain took it to another level and you kept right on going that was perfection!
I've never fried turkey, and I've been looking at so many videos trying to learn, and your video is my favorite. I think I'm going with the "traditional" pot and propane. I like the way you instructed, and I've subscribed. Thank you, Sam. -Jose
I've had the Big Easy oilless infrared one for years. The second thanksgiving I used it for a big ass prime rib and it was amazing!
Now we need to see a big fish fry with the fryers.
Sam..you are the best at adapting to changing conditions on the fly. I am going to show this tto my students when I teach about situational adaptability.
This is the very first video I ever saw before I ever knew who Sam the cooking guy was and I loved it. I thought "this guy should have a show." What did I know?? Middle by far best looking. Bought this old school set up off FB this last weekend. Frying a turkey for the first time ever this year. Have been talking about it for YEARS!
The commentary during the rain is what made me subscribe.
Holy oil! Wow! Thanks for doing that!
I brined in a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket for one Thanksgiving. Came out amazing.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Have a safe one!

@@GLUTENX, if your willing and able to do the initial investment, the butterball deep fryer does work great. Fairly easy to use and only thing you need to buy is oil every year. Great for other frying also.
@@csview8936 the electric one right? I was eyeballing that one because god knows I donât have space for the propane jet engine (as much as Iâd love it lol)
@@GLUTENX yessir! We still use it outside or in the garage. But definitely much safer. Still important to not dunk a frozen bird. đŹ
@ExcelsiorFocus - Happy (almost) Thanksgiving from 2021!!
Been using the Butterball fryer for around 10 years. Couple tips; it's actually designed for indoor use, when used outside the oil doesn't get as hot. I use mine in the garage. Extension cords can also take away from how hot the fryer gets. Very easy to use, just verify temperature of the bird before you take it out.
Thank you so much for this video!! We love watching you. We fried our first turkey and it was amazing.
I have a char broil oiless and i absolutley love it ! Ribs are amazing, so are whole chickens as well.
I'm doing three turkeys Thanksgiving as my military kids and there friends are coming this year. One electric deposit fry using the Master Built, regular oven and a Treager smoked turkey. Can't wait for next Thursday. đŠ
Loved the rain effect guys looked really real!!! Great job!!
I know it's been a few years but were coming up on that time of year again. Last year we watched this, and went with the Butterball fryer because we wanted oil and simplicity/safety. I went with a cajun butter rub/injector and DAMN did it come out amazing. It came out juicy with crispy skin and the Cajun rub really set it apart from the boring old bird. I would highly recommend the Butterball fryer for your first deep fried turkey project. It felt much safer, no open flame, fully contained so it can't tip over and the basket made putting it in and taking it out so much easier. We felt safe enough with it to do it in the garage with the door open so we still got that Thanksgiving smell too :) Thanks Sam/boys for the great info!
What Cajun butter rub /injection did you use?
Sam talking about how he doesn't understand how the infrared cooker works and his amazement at it is so honest and hilarious and the most relatable thing about him. It's the reason I have watched so damn many of his videos, even though I will probably not make 90% of the food he cooks.
I got my oil-less one today and will be using it in 4 days! So excited! Will def do dry brining! Thanks so much for tutorial
Looks like you enjoyed making this video as much if not more than I did watching it. Informative and funny ! Thanks for sharing.

Or craft beer brewing device!
I love your fucking idea. đđ
R u from cape breton? Cause they do that with their lobster boiling rigs.
Thank you for making this video.
It helped me immensely.
Great video! All three seem to be good choices if done right depending on your taste and desire to cook with or without oil. Thanks for being so real and doing all the research so we don't have to! This is definitely worth a big thumbs up and plenty of shares. đđ
I have used a ButterBall electric fryer for years and love it. You can even put water in it for a seafood boil.
And the ButterBall is designed for INDOOR cooking. It is electric, so it wonât ignite the oil and burn the house down. If anything, it is more dangerous used outdoors, in the rain.
Also, it has a thermostat to keep the oil at the proper temperature. The skin color and juiciness difference between the two oil fryers is due to the time and temp they cooked at. The traditional method has to be tended and adjusted to keep a stable temp, while the electric fryer does that for you.

Sam I can't thank you enough for this great video. I bought the Masterbuilt and it was so easy to use. Our 14 pound turkey was perfectly delicious!

As a Brit watching this, the oil-less version wins purely for gravy enhancing juices. Because gravy is one of the best parts of a roast dinner!

@Jamie Sanderson Deep fried in peanut oil is the only way to go. Dharri yeah that would have been awesome.
I've deep fried quite a few turkeys, not commercially but for friends, family and myself. I'm up to at least 150 or so. I always use the original, traditional pot and Big open flame.
First...
#1 Safety rule for me.
Keep the kids away. Its a holiday and everyone wants to have a good time and the last thing you need are kids running around with a giant pot of boiling oil.
#2 Keep alcohol to a minimum while cooking.
Ok, back to the good part.
Many people don't like the dark meat, but I do along with my wife and others. When you let the legs just spread wide open like a gymnast doing the splits, the legs and thighs and sometimes part of the breast can easily get over cooked and dried out. I always..Always inject my turkeys. I use the creole butter flavor. Also, I always get a piece of wire and tie the legs together. I check the positioning on the rack so the legs will be on the side of the upright that allows the legs to be positioned high on the breast, keeping it from getting too much oil circulation around them...protecting them from over cooking.
Note...
You mentioned the dryness needed when putting the turkeys in the hot oil. Like I said, I always inject mine.
So, they are not dry. I do however use a cajun/creole seasoning or rub.
After injecting, I put the turkey on the rack and put a lot of the dry seasoning all over it and let it sit while the oil comes up to temp. This seems to allow much of the outer liquids to drip off and if you have the proper oil level, it gives you a fairly safe process.
I also highly recommend a turley no larger than 14 or 15 pounds. Too big and you get too much meat that is over cooked, because the outer parts are just exposed to the hot oil too long.
Good luck. Be safe.
Is there a temperature you shoot for or any other tips? I got the honor of doing most of the cooking this year since my grandparents are going to stay home and social distance. Iâll take any extra help I can get đ
What temp on oil? Also how long do you think per pound in oil
@@fredluden2298 I would not go larger than 14lbs. Also pat dry before placing in the fryer. I inject mine as well as it is more flavorful than brining alone.
@@fredluden2298 I inject mine the day prior and place it in unused trash bag and let it marinate the day prior

Yep I have the same fryer so every thanksgiving Iâm obligated to fry a bird for each side of the family
You are so right , I even fry whole chicken and the flavor is amazing
The butterball turkey fryer is weak. When the turkey is submerged, the temperature of the oil drops, and the fryers heating element isn't powerful enough to bring it back up to temp.
Who else just want to taste the turkey? đđđđđđđđđđ
