- On this episode of The Sick Podcast, Grant McCagg, Shayne Gaumond and Rocco Zappia discuss the prospects of the week, draft wish lists for the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens and more!
Great show with good insights on the top 7 players going into the 2024 NHL entry draft. Grant and Rocco really put a lot of thought into why they think these players should be slotted where they put them... Always a good show guys and I always listen right to the end...
Why would you draft a defenseman. Montreal needs scorers. I think Iginla at 5,6 or7.would be my suggestion.
@@user-gq9ic7yt9r
You have to play the cards you’re dealt 🤷🏻♂️
Regardless if u need a goal scorer a defenseman or a goalie.....YOU always draft the best available player at your spot in Rd 1...PERIOD
EXAMPLE 2018 JESPERI KOKTENEMI TAKEN 3RD OVERALL while Senators said thank you Habs and drafted Brady Thachuk 4th. So if the best is a dman then Hughes will draft a dman .
@@leeyoung3959 , yeah, we could always trade extra D
@@user-gq9ic7yt9r
Funny how people shit on the Habs
for when they took KK
(because they NEEDED !!!!
a center)
instead of taking the BPA
in Brady Tkachuk
Yet you guys STILL !!!!
will say stuff like :
“we NEED !!!!!
a FORWARD”
or
“we have ENOUGH
defencemen !!!”
The irony is pretty insane
I'm surprised you didn't mention Silayev as one of the top options for Montreal. I think a top4 of Guhle, Silayev, Reinbacher and Mailloux sound like an incredible foundation for the next 10 years. Then you would be able to shelter Hutson a bit as well.
Great show
Thnx fellas . Thanks Grant 😊
Great Show Guy's 😎
The thing noticed about the highlights the size difference man it's imperative the Habs draft bigger forwards in particular.
Last year we needed (Bedard, Fantilli, or Carlsson) of course we missed out. This year we need (Celibrini, Demidov, or Lindstrom), and most likely they will all be gone in the top 5-6, and of course the Habs will figure out a way to finish with pick #7/8th, lol
Well said
After Monty got us 3 pts in 2 games...Montreal is now 7th today !!!
@@powers1500 I dont understand. We have 3 goalies, and their playing Monty like we are trying to make it to playoffs or something. We play Savard and Matheson top minutes. Makes no sense to me 🤷
Hope the Senators get their Parekh and the Habs get our Celebrini!
About Catton's size, Larionov was 5'11", 163 pounds. Just saying.
And Crosby is 5’11 too.
How about Liam Greentree? 80 pts in 53 games. How does he compare your picks? Slow footed?
love him if we pick 12-16
Nygard a bit before
love this greentruck lol but talent or grit wise a bit off the top 10... just after Iginla and Nygard
@@user-superf
Nygard will be a GREAT ..!!!!…
3rd liner 🥰😁
I agree with Grant…
I don’t see Catton becoming a
Top2 Center…
but I’d just move him to the wing,
and let him to his
Marner-esque magic
Helenius : I’m not a fan.
Guy is missing dynamic offence.
Eiserman : he’s a heck of a goal-scorer…
but if they go down that route…
They would REALLY need to do their due diligence on his character.
And he would be a project.
There is a LOT
he would need to improve
in his all-around game
The Habs needs are scoring size and grit.
How did you like it when Habs drafted based on need
in 2018 ? 😇🥰
Remember ?
Kotkaniemi because we NEEDED
a center
instead of
Brady Tkachuk ???
How did you like that selection ? 🥰
Iginla 4th Rocco
thats a bit high
even before Perekh for Ottawa!!!
Iginla is more a 10th pick if you take into account the other D's
Rocco's list was in no particular order.
@@recruteshockey9700 ohhhh
my mistake then loll
i saw celibrini
then Demidov
then Lindstrom
then the others... so it looked like in order...and the last player... he said was his last and hesitated with 2 other D's to put it at that last spot...
so i assumed... the list was in order... loll
5'11" 170 ish pounds I agree, no thank you for this edition of the Montreal Canadiens 🙌 unles you are ex-tre-maaaaly great in every other aspects including grit and physicality
What if the guy has
Mitch Marner talent ?
@@moviestoshare813 then I hope he's good and fierce in the playoffs
Pourrais-tu donner une casquette Sick podcast à Grant svp ? ;)
I second that 👆
With a little luck we'll get Cele or Demi
dream dream... we all hope
It does not matter if Montreal picks from 5th to 8th, whoever they draft might likely become their best player in 3 to 5 years.
sorry
but at 8th... i do not think so
after Cell Cayd and Demigod... it is not better than Slaf and Suz... at 8th... its like Dickinson... mmm Slaf all the way then
@@user-superf it is your opinion...thanks .
Habs need more size and sandpaper ... Center OHL power forward..... 6-4/216 at 18 years of age. Nuff said
if they pick 6, Lindtrom won't be there, if they pick 5 it will be lindstrom, demidov or perehk
Size like lindstrom at 6 th... great if available...but first i cant close my eyes on a Demi-God ( Demidov) if he is free
exactly their reasoning to pick wickenheiser....
You know the AWSOME news? If Chicago win the lottery this year or next year they won’t be able to draft McKenna in 2026.
Hoping Montreal picks Lindstrom
Habs need more size and sandpaper ... Center OHL power forward..... 6-4/216 at 18 years of age. Nuff said
Great choice but he will prob be second line in nhl... where Demidov is first line 4 me
@@user-superf SHRIMP COCKTAIL AT 163 POUNDS ... ONE BODY CHECK IN THE PAYOFFS AND BYE BYE ROOSKI
@@FooFahFoeFum WHL, Medicine Hat Tigers. Catton or Demidov if they cant get Lindstrom
@@user-ki8rx5uv1q Forward shrimps like you mention nay not apply here. Habs have 13 already in prospects and roster.
McCagg probably had James van Riemsdyk over Patrick Kane in the 2007 draft lol. There’s no way McCagg was picking a 5 foot 9 winger even though he was special.
RW Greentree 6-2/198 left shot ..... RW Hemming 6-2/200 right shot.
Iginla Nygard Greetree .... in order... did not watch Hemming enough
@@user-superf habs should be looking for larger forwards ... 6 foot is small. .... I don't trust MTL mgmt ....they covet NCAA 5-10 /180 pound forwards.
is dylan strome better than connor McDavid 😊
of course
Hope HABS pick EISERMAN ..!! SNIPER par excellence ...!!! I trust HUGHES will do their homework and make the BESY CHOICE for the rebuild !!
Id rather trade back and take Iginla then take a Defenseman! Or package and trade up to get Demidov. Mailloux, and Xhekaj are underated offensively and they are more physical than any of the top end boys in the draft. We're set to have the best defense in the NHL in as little as 2 - 3 years! We don't need to draft a Defenseman in the 1st round!
Good comment... but not sure about habs becoming first D in the league lol...
also...I prefer to overpay to trade up for DemiGod than to trade down... even if Iginla is a nice fit on a second line... like an eventual 5 millions guy not a 8millions we cant pay....
@@user-superf...You don't see that often teams trading up especially within the top5...almost impossible. However, because of the russian factor, Demidov might still be there at 5th or 6th. Is he the type of players HuGo want ??? I doubt it...!!!
@@powers1500he is what the habs need for sure. If he is available at our pick, Habs will pick him.
@@powers1500 great comment... i feel with Demi-God... we complete our forward talent... then we need big boys
Guess our russian head head scout knows more than me... but he may share my love....
i would offer our 7th -8th pick and the Winnipeg one and our second to get him... at 2 or 3...not taking a chance
if we have 4th or 5th ... i may risk waiting if i think others will take D's
other teams who wants a D should be happy to trade down
there are 6 D of similar value
Not a single chance habs draft yaremchuk
You don't know how accurate grant is sadly
Grant never lies
@licmysak7842 he took strome over McDavid
depends where they pick, 5 they won't, 6 probaly not but 7 they will, the top 5 d are better than every habs d prospect
@@chrishansen8477 Rather have Catton or Eiserman
Montreal shouldn't have made the deal with Nashville. Last year for the fifth overall pick. We could have got an elite goalie prospect 16th overall pick. And I think it was a second round pick and then a third round for the following year, which would have been a lot better for us . than we could concentrate it on a defensive play this year.
You cannot have two offensive shrimps .....Hutson 5-10 .....& Parekh 6-0 in the top six D-men. Parekh is to draft and trade on the same day..
you can when all the others are over 6'3"
i love seafood so... ( makar girard...)
jokes aside...
with the harris guhle Endstrom ... which are not biggg... we need to do trades trades
@@user-superfGuhle is 6'3" 205 and Engstrom is 6'2" 185
They won’t play on the same line 🤡. Parekh with Ghule and Reinbacher with Hutson, what’s the problem? Obviously I want a forward like Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom but, after those three, there is a big gap with the 4th forward.
@@michaelwou1667 yesss
Why are you talking Senators??? Pls Sick Podcast keep this pidcast to ONLY TM
habs may draft Bedard/Fantilli and Celebrini/Demidov... Oh wait Hugues decided to pick up Monahan for 18 month for 2 x late 1st instead.... GREAT !!! lol probably one of the stupid move you could have done imo... CHI understand it quick !
wtf are you talking about .
Calgary 1rst is probably gonna be top 5/top 10 unprotected but ok
@@emilegoulet *Conditions: If the 2025 1st RD pick that Florida sent to Calgary is a lottery pick resulting in Calgary receiving Florida's 2026 1st RD pick instead.
Scenario: In the event CGY receives FLA’s 2025 1st round pick:
1. If both CGY AND FLA’s picks are NOT top 10, MTL will receive the better of the CGY and FLA 2025 1st round picks. Result: TBD
2. If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick. Result: TBD
So that FLA pick is almost certain to transfer to CGY right ? ... if the two 1st rounder 2025 CGY/FLA are OUT of top 10..we receive the better of the 2.. so i think best we can draft is 11th ? ... if CGY pick is like 7-8th ..MTL will end up with FLA pick..
