It's not about winning the lottery, it's about getting the best pick possible. 5th pick is better than 7th

I don't think it's the 1% to win it , as much as picking 2 spots higher and having a better chance at the player you want . But I agree not much different and your targeted player could drop anyways

As has been explained several times...it really won't make a huge difference if they pick 5 or 7. Much more important for the current team to win some games down the stretch than picking a spot or two higher as u can throw picks 5-7 in a hat and coose any of them

    • @jeffreynoury1637

Yeah, for example Habs pick 7th, and Lidstrom is available at pick 6, and ends up being taken.

If Parekh is there at 5,
      Habs pick 7th
      Parekh gone by 7th pick
      and goes on to becoming
      an Erik Karlsson 2.0 …
      Then yes,

      HUGE
      Difference

I wasn't sure about Grant's take on Yakemchuk with the Habs at first, but after hearing him out, he really convinced me that it might be a really good pick (if that happens). Just imagine the defense in 2-3 years, that's the type of D-core that makes you win championships. Great podcast as always!

Regarding the 'who is Columbus future powerplay quarterback?' isn't that Werenski for the foreseeable future then Mateychuk? And Jiricek have definitely shown enough offensive talent that he may become an adequate PP QB as well. I think that's a strong enough plan at the very least that it isn't a hole they have to reach to fill.

The ducks have some good defensive prospects but I would say they are as stacked with sure things like you said.
Feel like it would be a very very good idea to take another rhd like Levshunov.
They are absolutely stacked with young forwards and have Carlsson, McTavish, Zegras down the middle.
Could see Zegras maybe being put on the wing and C. Gauthier being a winger too.

Most fans are hoping for a big forward such as Lindstrom but he will surely be already gone...Levshunov,Parekh or Yakemcuk then become the best players available from 5th to 7th. However, I would not be surprised at all if Montreal drafted Eiserman because they really need scoring on their top 6 !!!

Why does the NHL keep records of hits/bodychecks per 60 minutes ? ....Example: - 2020 Ovechkin 6-3/230 not only scored goals but he delivered HITS & SANDPAPER. ......Ovechkin had more hits (6.89 per 60 minutes), than ((Mathews 1.21 + Marner 1.17 + Tavares 1.68 + Nylander 0.81 = 4.87). The leaf’s will never win a cup because their top 4 forwards are soft, non combative and afraid of getting hit.

The 1% chance doesn't make any difference can be appled all the way down the line, until you have 0% chance of winning EITHER lottery. Vegas obviousy ascribes to that philosophy, and it has worked for them, but it's fraught with peril, and inevitability they will have to pay the piper.

Montreal won't pass on Eiserman, I think they may even trade up for him. They will finish the season with just 2 20 goal scorers, and a boatload of promising young defence prospects. Remember what Bergevin said at the draft table in 2019. when a pure scorer out of the USNTDP unexpectedly dropped....... "We need the goals". That is obviously still the case.

Eiserman is just a glider.. most likely won't be a good playoff player.. taking a dman isn't a bad thing. If there is a player available with only 2nd line potential and a top D available.. you take the dman. It would be alot easier to trade one of their dman for a good forward than pick what may be available.. I'd only go for demidov, Lindstrom, catton. If they aren't available and a top D is available I take the Dman. You probably be able to trade that dman for a way better forward than what would be available at that pick.
