- The following is a scene from Saw 4 in which you find out how John aka Jigsaw got started on teaching people life lessons. The man in the trap was responsible for the miscarriage of John's baby Gideon, do you think that he was trying to get justice or vengeance? I DON'T OWN ANYRIGHTS TO THIS FILM OR LIONSGATE THIS WAS MADE FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY!

Though he may have deserved it.
This wasn't jigsaw.
This was just pure vengence and hate.
He wasn't intending to let this man go, he let him see his face.
It was his first trap (discounting jigsaw) so he was still new to it, he knew Cecil was too evil to save himself and Cecil even said "I don't have a soul". John got the idea of the pig masks when he was chasing Cecil so he didn't use one here because he didn't have one. Cecil "murdered" Giddion so he deserved it as well.
This was Hoffman's trap right?

Jigsaw was never scarier than in this scene. Barely contained rage.
While Tobin Bell's acting makes it easy to sympathize with John Kramer, let's not forget the character was quite clearly criminally insane, sociopathic, driven to it by a string of tragedies in his own life. Just consider the sadistic sophistication of the traps, like the "Rack" (which he said to be one of his "favorites"). (yes, I realize it's the way it is for the shock impact of the movie). Besides his sadism he is clearly shown to be biased towards some of his victims: compare Amanda Young's trial (where she didn't even have to injure herself) and the informer's one in the second movie (where he had to CUT HIS EYE OUT AND TAKE A KEY OUT OF HIS SKULL), or Art Blanc's "blind vs mute" fight where one of them HAD to die. There are numerous examples of how Jigsaw's "games" are in essence an overly complex sadistic routine masked by a supposed underlying "cause".
Do you have a background in psychology per chance? I only ask because I used to work as a clinical psychologist before changing careers and *your point is astute, valid and probably absolutely correct* in my opinion. I would adduce the same points in favour of the same argument. We are definitely looking at post-traumatic stress induced sadistic personality disorder and sociopathy, accompanied by a degree of atypical illusory superiority. Whatever the diagnosis, if such a person existed in real life they would struggle to stay hidden for long at all due to the immense complexity of their crimes; which is fortunate and should provide us all with a sigh of relief, because in such a person's eyes as John Kramer - we are almost all guilty and need testing.
I too find it interesting how Tobin Bell's skilled acting _(and to a degree, the writing)_ makes us empathise and understand his 'work', almost to the point of advocating it! What does this say about our own psychology I wonder? I think our empathy reduces as the sadism and suffering of the subject increases until we lose all affinity with John Kramer and begin to see him as a villain again when, as you pointed out, the traps become less of a lesson and more mere sick, heinous sadism.
Oliver Ansell OH, yeah. You had to forget the whole FRONTAL LOBE tumor thing, didn't you? Now comes your moment of truth.... today...you play with your own
nehorlavazapalka
oh this guy^
You could not be more wrong. John had not even an ounce of sadism in his mind. He never enjoyed what he did. He simply thought of it as necessary, like The Punisher, who does what he does, knowing it's bad, but necessary. The sophistication of his traps is used to emphasize the sins his victims committed. They all resembled their flaws and reasons to why they were where they were.
I agree this guy is just a psycho, he would be a good therapist if he wasn't a psycho though

He also literally has killed, detective Sing in the first one. He walked into a shotgun trap set by him after being chased down for cutting his partner's throat. He very likely could've killed tap by doing so. There also other traps where one person has to die, like Amanda's trap, Adam and Dr. Gordon etc. He has a very skewed sense of justice and often contradictorily to his morality.
@@austinshelton5959
It was set up by Hoffman.. and the eye set by Gordon.. every trap that motive with killing.. its all created by his follower.. Jigsaw trap always mean to 'save'..
I've always seen John Kramer as a man lashing out at a world he deemed unfair. It's partially a genuine belief in his own philosophy, that he's genuinely helping people (he experienced it himself, after all) but also frustration at the fact that other, "lesser" people are just given long, healthy lives that he doesn't get to have. He wants people he deems unworthy to go through what he went through.
The problem with the later films is that they just fully buy in to the"cult of jigsaw" interpretation. That's never been what the films were about to me. If they went down the right path with John Kramer, this series could have been so much more interesting.
As a man with a PhD in psychology I believe this proves we live in a society

This is a good question, but the true answer to this is that Vengeance and Justice are linked in many specific situations. Jigsaw more likely did foremost justice, rather than vengeance.
We still use vengeance as our “justice” system in America, where other countries now use rehabilitation and punitive measures in a good way.
Magikk Man If you think that THIS is justice, you need to seek help
Nah, John might like to dress it up as a test but this was personal and revenge for him
Justice and vengeance go hand in hand. You can't really have one without the other in society. By punishing criminals, we push our idea of justice upon them while reaping vengeance by incarcerating them or sentencing them to death.

I believe this is justice. Cecil had gotten away with robbery and other crimes again and again while feeding his drug addiction. After causing Jill's miscarriage, you would think, "OMG I just killed a baby, something is wrong with me, I need to change." Instead we see Cecil hadn't changed at all. First thing we see him doing is stealing from a festival. While the trap may have been flawed, John could have easily just killed Cecil. Instead this was John's test as well as Cecil, how can he believe in second chances at life if he denies it to someone who hurt him personally? So he gave the murderer of his child a chance to live and take new found respect for his life. It's not his fault Cecil threw it away. As John said before, some people you can't help; they have to help themselves.
Seesaw’s face when John reveals to him the tool that will supposedly save his life is fking hilarious AF.

"Justice" is relative. Notice how John Kramer responds with "I forgive you Cecil I do" not to sympathize with Cecil but to further exemplify how those who don't appreciate life and take advantage of society shouldn't be left untested from any authority or punishment. Yes, one could see that Kramer has a sense of sadism when he conducts these actions, but in regards to the character, Kramer only puts others in these situations to teach them how to value their lives; instead of further corrupting society and decreasing the sustainability of human beings.

Reverse Uno
One of the most tragic strories in the history of the cinema.
Cecil got what he deserved to be honest. He didn’t give a crap about anyone or anything and felt no remorse for what happened to Jill. Even after he got through the trap, he was still a piece of shit and tried to attack John. Honestly got no sympathy for Cecil! I honestly think it was a very happy moment for John to see Cecil die. Amanda is just as guilty because she encouraged him, anyway she got what she deserved too.
He should have reconsidered his philosophy the moment someone passed the test and tried to kill him for revenge
What about the time he killed a dude just because he called in sick for work when he wasn’t sick?
I recall that guy was taking advantage of handicap benefits without being handicapped though I agree that was extreme nonetheless
Arctic Games there were lots of examples of innocents or people with minor infractions being involved in his games. Yet some of the fans are so rabid they fail to see what he really was, and then blame Hoffman or Amanda.
In the very first film, to win Amanda had to stab through the stomach of the “dead cellmate”, who actually was not dead but incapacitated. The wife and child (!) of Dr. Gordon were held captive and had no control over their own fate according to the game - they were supposed to be killed by Zepp if Gordon didn’t complete his game in time.
There were others in later films who had no choice in their fate and were chosen for spurious reasons.
He didnt just skip work he defrauded his insurance company by faking an serious injury
@@steves1015 Actually John did said something along the line, where, if you can read people's thought and emotion, then you can control their action. In fact he proves this right when luring detective Matthew, which further become a bait test for Rigg. My point is that there's a chance that John involve those two innocents so that Gordon will have the desire and the urge to get out of the trap, but at the same time give some leniency so those two can survive (and they did).
What about those innocent people that were framed by detective Matthews? Jigsaw put them in his deadly games lol

I hate Jigsaw, he literally put a guy in a trap for smoking 😂
? what
The man killed his unborn baby
@@eraserfan2744 Dead By Daylight Mobile is referring to Saw VI, where in the first test William and one of the janitor's that work for his company had to restrain themselves from breathing, as each breath brought vices closer and closer to crushing their stomach, killing them. The reason the janitor was tested was because he was a smoker; one that was doomed from the start as smoking causes shortness of breath due to the damage it causes to the lungs. Jigsaw put a man in a trap because of his smoking addiction; not only that, but one that he was certain to fail because of it.
This trap was enforced by Mark Hoffman; as Jigsaw was dead at the time of the trap, but the trap was originally designed and created by Jigsaw. Apparently, according to Jigsaw, because he had high blood pressure, and chose to smoke, he was ungrateful and undeserving of the blessings in his life. It doesn't really make much sense, and is pretty unfair; he'd have a lot of work to do if smokers are bad people and ungrateful to be alive in his eyes.
Then again, he's also tested a woman (Jeff's wife in Saw III) for taking anti-depressants, and another man because he had attempted suicide, and two women because they were in an abusive relationship, so, Jigsaw's ideology of those who are undeserving is questionable at best.
THAT'S why you hate him? 😭

@Emil Nergahl Ahm because he died at saw 3 ? And his successor Hoffman along with Amanda doesnt follow his philosophy of giving second chances..? . You could've just watch part 1 to 7 tho and do an in depth thinking to connect the parts together.
@Emil Nergahl She's the one who killed the man under pressure tho jigsaw only said that "the key is in the stomach of your dead cell mate" knowing that amanda will find out that her cell mate is not really dead.
I mean It takes a skilled person to carefully cut someone and carefully put their hands on someone's guts to slowly remove the key in order for them to still have a chance at living instead of stabbing them multiple times for them to die paralyzed and unable to scream. Jigsaw didn't force her to kill tho. She did it on her own. I mean . Wtf dude!? . Its a trap that splits your face. Who in the world would even have the right mind to take it slow and carefully remove the key while keeping the person with the key inside safe.
She just simply killed him because she was afraid to die.
Well . That's what I just thought of based on what I saw in Amanda from all the saw movies she's at. Never really Intended to start this.
But that's the idea in my mind. Only an idea, based on the jigsaw philosophy, because he's just badass dude. Hypocrite or not.
Ps. I believe in your point tho. That it is being a hypocrite. Well depends on the makers of the movie if they really haven't thought that part of the plot out or if they really just wanna put something deeper in it. I appreciate your reply tho dude. Haven't thought of it. Made me watch the reverse bear trap again and analyse.
