I'm just about to start my PLAB journey (soon to be UKMLA journey) and i've been nervous about the stark difference in practice in my home country and in the UK. I've been reading a lot of primers, articles etc but this video is one of the very few that really put me at ease and helped me really understand how I would want to start my career as a doctor in the UK. A great detailed video! đđŒ I have a few queries on the Non-Training job posts:
1. what are the likely specialities that one can think of getting into after NT jobs?
2. being a ânon trainingâ job does that mean we are left all on our own to make decisions on patient management? đ€
3. can we do audits in a NT job to amplify our chances of getting into a particular speciality?
I hope you can help me with my queries, thank you so much! âșïžđđŒ
1) Any specialty you wish so long as you meet the applicant criteria.
2) No. Non training just means you don't have a portfolio and curriculum to maintain. You won't be abandoned.
3) Yes.
Thanks a lot for this video.
Can you please consider making a video about what are the essential clinical skills that one should have before their first job in the UK?
Thanks again ;))

Every single one of your videos just gives me a bit more confidence when I watch them
Thank you so much!
Iâd just like to know a bit more about the fy2 stand-alone programme.
When the preferences are put out after the interview , will the rotations only be pertaining to those that are available at the time or will there be rotations available in all disciplines like surgery, medicine, a and e , etc.
Also is there such a rotation called General Surgery ? Or is there a list of all the disciplines the NHS covers that I find somewhere ?
My ultimate goal is to get into CST after doing an FY2 standalone , in addition to what you mentioned in this video about choosing OBG, Trauma Orthopedics , etc is there any specific advice you have for the route/ path that Iâm planning to take ?
You'd want to look for rotations that are more surgery heavy. Hope this also helps: roadto.uk/vHWG
Golden advices
Thanks for saying so!
This was a really enlightening video.
Thank you so much for your effort.
Wanted to know, how many standalone FY2 posts are available on average each year and how do the number of vacancies available for that compare with the vacancies for Fy2 level non-training posts each year?
It's hard to give a fixed number are standalones only become available if there is a gap in the foundation program, but there is always a greater availability of non training jobs to standalones.
great piece of advice in a short amount of time!on a side note I really didn't expect you to have an american accent

I like before I watch. Always.
Aw thanks!
Thank you for this great video.
I wanted to know if it is important to sign off the CREST form in my home country before applying for CT1-2/ST1non-training jobs?
No need.
Hi, thank you for all this information you put out for everyone!
I was wondering if its common for a CREST form to be signed in a 6 month period in a non training post, provided you actively pursue it. Or do people commonly take a year or more to get it signed?
Thank youuu
thank you
You're welcome!
Hi.. thank u for another wonderful video.. hope u guys are doing well.
I have recently seen an advert in the NHS for fy2 in ophthalmology in OXFORD.. is it the same process or do we need more qualifications for the same? And,
Can u kindly do a video about the cost of living and expenses as an Img coming for the first job. Would appreciate it. Thanks in advance đ
1) Same process in what sense? You can understand the qualifications they are looking for by reading the person specifications.
2) Sure!
Hi, Ibreez, thanks for an informative session!
I'm interested in pursuing an Emergency Medicine Non training FY2 post as my first job in the NHS (to get CREST signed and gain subsequent entry into ACCS EM). Do you have any recommendations of supportive hospitals for IMG doctors with only an internship experience? Which hospital did you or people you know, do your first job at? Hoping you are well!
Hi! I have made a medical CZcams channel. It will make studying easier for medical students. Kindly subscribe my channel.đ
Hello, you're welcome! I think any hospital is supportive so long as you make your intentions known of what you wish to pursue from the start. We started at Scunthorpe General Hospital (in emergency medicine as well!), but now work at Derriford Hospital.
Hello , am thinking for the same for Emergency Medicine non training FY2 post ,would you please advice me if you have done the process .am still confused when I have to apply for PLAB 2 ?.thanks
Great video Ibreez. It has a lot of amazing information. Really appreciate your effort.
Just need to clear few things:
1. If I get my CREST form signed after 3 months in a non-training job, can I apply for run through training (or other uncoupled training) programs? Also, if I get selected in the training program, will I need to complete 12 months in the non training job before I could join the training program in the speciality? Or can I just leave the non-training job after 3 months and start my speciality training program instantly?
2. If I do FY2 standalone, can I only get my competency signed after 12 months only? Can I apply to training programs before 12 months time? Can I join the training before the 12 months time is over in FY2 Standalone?
I would absolutely admire if you could answer my queries. Thank You.
Thanks for saying that.
1. Speciality training programs always starts at specific time of the year. More often than not it is always August. If you get into training, you will know it around May-June. So, you have to give your current non-training job a notice that you will be leaving them in August. Nothing is instant.
2. You can leave the training if you wish but you will not get any certificate without completing 12 months of it successfully.
Very informative! Thank you..
P.s. if one applies in January for FY2 when are the interviews etc..?
Please see: roadto.uk/vHWG
Hey there. Do you guys have a video for what to do after getting GMC registration/passing PLABs?
Please see: czcams.com/video/SJkSaQ5FApM/video.html and roadtouk.com/blog/what-to-do-after-plab-2/
thank you for such great informative videos! I have the following queries and I hope you can help:
1. what is Horus form? is that similar/same to CREST form? do we need to complete both the forms if we decide to take up a non training job?
2. is it necessary to have a business visa to apply for PLAB 2 test? can I travel to the UK on a visitor's visa and still apply/sit for the PLAB 2 exam?
thank you.
1) Horus is the name of the eportfolio.
2) Visit visa is acceptable.
very good video

Hi Dr. Ibreez
Great video đ
I wanted to know, when do non training FY2 posts display their vacancies?
Is there fixed application time, just like FY2 Standalone or is it available all around the year, randomly??
It's available all year round.
Thank you for this video!
I have 4 questions
1. Apart from the education supervisor/mentor/ progress tracking and the fpcc( which is equivalent to crest) there is no other disadvantage for non training jobs?
2. You said rank is based on interview and application. What can I add to my application to increase my chances of getting into fy2 standalone?
3. If I take a non training fy2 equivalent and get a crest certificate should i join a training ct or a non training equivalent?
4. Will i be able to take mrcp if i do a non training job?
1) Not as far as we can see.
2) Please see: roadto.uk/vHWG
3) It's up to you.
4) Yes.
Thank you so much for this valuable video but i have some qusetions
If i have completed the rotation in my home country (which is equivelent to fy2 in uk) can i be still eligibale for the fy2 standalone?
And the other question what protfolio criteria that should be met in order to apply for fy2 standalone ? Other that the ALS coures
Hey! Thank you for the video! Just one question, The ALS requirement before we start, does that have to be from UK? Or can we do that from our home country (AHA)?
It needs to be under Resus UK
Thanks a lot for the clarity.
Also which post would be best for drs with no experience with NHS but would like to take up a job for the first time at non training job.
Standalone or non training FY2 is ideal.
I really like the way you're open about your life & career. Respect. What I want to know is:
By the time I successfully complete my medical degree (By God's grace), I have to do the UKMLA. Although I am a British Citizen with an overseas medical certificate, do I still have to do IELTS?
Yes, currently it is mandatory on basis of country of graduation, rather than nationality/citizenship.
thank you for the great video!
my internship at home country ends in mid or end of august, and the FY2 begins in august itself. is there some solution to this or other options i can look into?
You'd have to wait until the January eligibility.
How are you like not very famous! Thank you thank you thank you
Hahaha you're very welcome đ
Great video!
My question is if I finish a crest 2020 form but decide I want to apply for specialty training in 2022, can I use the 2020 form or should I sign a CREST form in 2021?
Currently it's been mandated that all forms that are submitted are the CREST 2020 forms and no earlier forms will be entertained. Whether or not they will keep this for the next few years remains to be seen. It's best to keep it signed though just in case it doesn't change.
@@RoadToUK Thanks for the advice!
Thank You so much for detailed video.
I have one questionâŠ
1.Internship which we do in our home country is equivalent to FY1 if it meets their criteria?
2. If it doesnât meetâŠ. then we have to do FY1 ? If yes then do we have to pay for that?
1) Yes.
2) a. Yes.
b. No.
Thank you very much!
Does the Fy2 equivalent-non training job have a person specification to its application?
Yes they do.
Thank you đ
I've browsed NHS jobs and it seems that F2 equivilant jobs require prior experience working in the UK for 3-6 months !
Can you please exaplin this and how I'm I supposed to get started?
(These jobs were A&E and intensive care mainly, I want a non training job in pediatrics cuz I hate adults but couldn't find any, that's really odd)
Thanks

Hello Dr.Ibreez,
Keep up the good work đ
One question:
I graduated in 2013 and began working as a General Practitioner (GP) in 2016, continuing until October 2022. In October 2022, I transitioned to a psychiatry resident role and successfully passed Paper A of MRCPsych. I have PLAB2 scheduled for November 10, and I plan to take Paper B of MRCPsych after that (assuming I pass PLAB2). Given this background, is there a possibility of obtaining a non-training position in psychiatry without diversifying into other medical areas?
Yes.
Great video,Just wanted to ask..If an IMG was to work through the fy1 and fy2 in a non training position with a provisional gmc registration, would the provisional licensing upgrade to a full license by the end of the two years??
You cannot work in a non training job with provisional registration.
@@RoadToUK Thank you for your reply. My situation is that i am an IMG without an internship.I have cleared my plab exams and am hoping to apply for an FY1 LAS program..is that possible?
nice video! I want to actually start CT in psychiatry and was thinking of applying for WAST but due to covid the applications aren't open. How many months would I need to work as a non training FY2 before i can enter training in psych CT1?
It is dependent on the length of time it takes for you to get your CREST signed, and how comfortable you feel moving onto a training post.
Great video!
I have 400 and above in three subtests of oet but not in the fourth one. What would you advise either to retake oet for 400 in all subtests as I want to join fy2 standalone after plab or a NT fy2 equivalent would be okay?
If you can manage the OET one more time, go for it, but applying for non training jobs as a backup isn't a bad idea.
Hi! Firstly I want to thank you for this video. It is really a starkling difference between UK and my country so I've been getting really confused at times about the routes I could take. I have 1 question though: I have a acceptable equivalent to Fy1 from my country. Can I proceed to CT or ST after I apply to non training jobs or do I have to still do a F2 standalone at the end to be able to enter a CT or ST? Thank you so much!
Standalone is not mandatory. The other route is feasible.
Hi Ibreez
Really great vedio , U guys are gems đ
I have just one question : U said that getting an FY2 standalone job/getting the desired rotations in your FY2 standalone totally depends on your rank* , Well can U plz briefly elaborate that what's gonna make my rank? I mean what's the criteria for making merit rank in FY2 application đ Thanks Again
As mentioned in the video, your SJT score and interview.
Thank you for this video. It cleared everything up for me, except one thing. Is the visa application process different between the 2 positions for IMgs? Will it be more difficult to apply for a visa when applying to non-training jobs?
No it's not different.
Hi. Can you explain abit on Drs with MRCP (UK), which level could we apply for in non training?
I have a question. Is it possible to get ST1 posts without CREST? This confuses me quite a bit. Thanks for the video.
You can get any non training post (FY1/2, CT1/2, ST1/2 etc) without CREST, but to show that you have met the equivalent competencies of your peers when you apply for ST1/CT1 training, you MUST complete a CREST form. Please also see: czcams.com/video/_Ne0akP097k/video.html
Hi! I have made a medical CZcams channel. It will make studying easier for medical students. Kindly subscribe my channel.đ
Hi doc ibreeza! If i complete my internship year in my home country, can i still apply for an FY1 rather than an FY2? I am not overly confident with my skills so i want to have more exposure with the NHS at the basic level. Or will i be overqualified since i have already done my 1 year internship post graduation?
Hello, you could apply for a non training FY1 post.
@@RoadToUK thank you doc! đ
Thanku for the guidance.
What are the rotational options for anaesthesia training??
You're welcome! As per the curriculum.
How long does it take to finish all the requirements to get the CREST form signed?
Then after, applying for IMT for example, what additional things are required to have/fulfill other than CREST form?
I have a question... can we apply for non training CT1 without having crest form? Or do we have to apply for non training trust grade doctor and after getting crest form signed we can apply for CT1? It's a bit confusing.
If I start an internship in July 2022 and finish July 2023. Complete PLAB 1 in Feb 2023 due to no seats available, and then PLAB 2would I be able to apply in 2023 for a non training post starting in August 2023? Would I also have to do the SJT and Clinical assessment (graduated 2019 sept)
great video! what is the situation judgement test for FY2 standalone?
foundationprogramme.nhs.uk/
Thank you so much for the video. I have a few questions.
1) FY2 standalone requires valid IELTS/OET scores within two years separate from the english proficiency requirement for GMC registration. Meanwhile, FY2 equivalent non-training post does not require valid IELTS/OET if I have fulfilled GMC registration. Am I correct?
2) FY2 standalone eligibility criteria includes Full GMC registration. However, doesnt IMG only get Provisional GMC registration after passing PLABs? Should an IMG apply for Full registration?
3) Can I later still apply to specialty training post instead of the equivalent non-training post even if I finish FY2 equivalent non-training post (therefore never fulfilled UK Foundation programme)?
Thank you.
1) Yes.
2) No. Your registration being provisional or full is dependent on completion of an acceptable pattern of internship.
3) Yes, but you'd need to have a completed CREST form.
@@RoadToUK Thanks a lot!
@@RoadToUK Can a person with provisional GMC registration (no internship done) apply for non training FY1 post??
I passed my plab part 1 in oct 2020, so is it advisable to apply for a fy2 standalone in January but I also want to do my plab part 2 asap (sometime in March). Not sure what to do and how to juggle all of this lol...
If you're interested in applying for a standalone, go for it.
Hey doc, Can you please explain what do these ILS & ALS mean on 02:38 for Non-Training Jobs ? And for what these are needed?
Immediate Life Support and Advanced Life Support. You will be apart of acutely deteriorating and cardiac arrest teams, for which these trainings come in handy.
@@RoadToUK Thank you!
Is it for any particular specialty or each and every specialty?
After graduating from home country and clearing IELTS and PLABs, can we do a Non Training SHO job in UK (in Obstetrics Or any other department) ,instead of FY2, and then apply for Specialty Training in A&E after an year or so?
Or is there any better alternative for that?
Yes you don't have to do a standalone. You can choose to do a non training job instead.
Hi! Is fy2 non training job supervised? Because In order to register for Australian standard pathway, it is compulsory for us to pass plab 1 and 2 and complete 12 months of supervised training job.

Nope, no fee. In fact, you get paid: czcams.com/video/MT52s6GNNE8/video.html

HI Doctor Ibreez, I am in a very big dilemma could you please help ? I booked my PLAB 2 for June 1, 2024. On the F2 Standalone page, on the timeline it's mentioned that "ESSENTIAL" criteria is to be GMC registered by August 2024. However, there's a mention of giving PLAB 2 by MAY 31st ! Should I try to prepone my PLAB 2 exam ? Its all very uncertain...
We'd suggest emailing UKFP to ask if this would be fine.
I have a question regarding the non training job
is it a must to do 12 months of NT job to apply for ST training or just by getting the crest form i will be ready to apply even if i did not do 12 months after my fy1 ?
You need to have 12 months of post internship experience by the time your training job starts
If i am in my internship backhome and the rotations will end in March.. can i apply for fy2 stand alone before finishing my internahip year?
If you meet the application criteria at that time, then yes.
If someone has mrcs, with GMC Plus paediatric surgery degree from Pakistan, already working as paediatric surgeon, if come to uk, still we need to go for training for frcs???
Hello, Thnxs a lot for informative and really helpful videos, one querry, regarding OET score I have heard 350+/500 is acceptable, but ma'am u told 400+, recently what is right, 400+ is req. Or 350+ will also do!? Plz reply
For UKFP and standalone, you need 400. Otherwise, for PLAB and GMC registration, you need a grade B.
@@RoadToUK Thnxs for reply, it would be really appreciable if u could clear it a bit more, for non- trainee job & trainee job post non-trainee job, is 350+ (B) adequate or u still need 400!? E.g. I'm coming from India, clear PLAB 2 , get gmc registered, get non-trainee job, then sign-up with CREST , then apply for IMT-1 , Will I require 400+ or this 350+ B Gmc registration is sufficient for me, Thnxs in advance
OET you need to achieve a B minimum which is 350 and above you can check the GMC website which clearly states this
For a standalone?
@@RoadToUK img applying for gmc registration require 350 above which is a B and above
Could you please make a video about WAST ?
We've got an article on it!

I have a doubt.
I have heard that we can continue to work as a non- trainee for as long as we can if we dont want to progress, and settle as it is.
So, do we have to apply again and again for non-training jobs after our term ends, or is there any other way?
It's a contract based job. You work for the duration of the contract and extend as needed.
Is there a breakdown of the ranking criteria for FY2 that one can look at?
What do you mean? Like a grading rubric?
Road to UK is there a division of FY2 level non training jobs too?
For example, you mentioned, you joined at CT1. Iâm under an impression that CT 1 is for those who get into training.
How can one get a CT1 level non-training post before getting into the training?
There is a division of non training jobs. It can be FY1 level, ST3 level, CT1 level, etc. There is a more in-depth explanation here: czcams.com/video/SJkSaQ5FApM/video.html
Hey Doc. Is it possible to apply for both fy2 standalone and non training jobs simultaneously and proceed whichever we get first ?
Yes it is.
If I aspire to get into a competetive specialty, should I worry about RLMT exemption laws changing in the near future? Is that a good enough reason to get into FY2 standalone?
It shouldn't be the only reason you apply for a standalone.
I dont know if you guys will see this or answer tbis on an old video
I want to know about non training fy2
Im assuming you thru multiple rotations in fy2 year my question is
1. Do you get to choose your rotations and are they decided for the entire fy2 once or you have to apply for new posts in different hospitals to complete your fy2 non training requirements
2. Is there a form to complete that equates us to a training fy2 (like the one thru ukfpo)
Non training may or may not be rotational. You complete the CREST form.
Hi thanks for this video, I prefer to do FY2 standalone because I will receive my certificate late in January and I dont just want to be waiting at hime..but my question is if I can get a non training job just for six months and the employers would allow me to go after six months of moving to UK from Europe?
Do you mean break your contract early while doing a standalone?
@@RoadToUK yea, breaking early while doing a training job.
Hi! Thank you for such wonderful video. May I ask, how is it different to apply for non-training FY2, as compared to non-training CT1?
No difference in applying. You just need to just check the person specifications.
@@RoadToUK is it harder to get a job at ct1 level?
Also what specialty was that job?
Can a person with provisional GMC registration apply for FY1 non training job?
I got answer through comments. For a non training job permanent registration is compulsory.
:)
Can you, please, share with us some tips about how to have dermatology speciality after FY2 ?
đđ»
Thank you for an informative session.
I am an IMG & have few doubts which i would like to ask:
1. Are FY2 training posts and Standalone FY2 training are the same or two different types of training.
2. Since after doing a non training job for getting CREST competencies signed, one cannot apply for Standalone FY2., is it advisable to be in a non training FY2 training post for at least a year before i can apply for a speciality training position in specialties such as Paediatrics/Cardiology/Radiology/Dermatology or a period of 6 months of non training post with CREST is also acceptable?
3. Can i apply for the training positions while i am still part of a non-training post? If yes, how does this work?
4. Can i switch departments while i am in a non-training post or do i have to reapply every time when i am switching departments?
5. Is one year of non-training position deemed enough to complete the person specifications for IMG doctors?
1. The same.
2. CREST technically only needs 3 months of work. Whether or not you've completed what the form entails in that amount of time and if the consultant is then satisfied to sign it off, is another thing.
3. Yes. During the appropriate application period you submit your application.
4. If you're working under the same employer and your pay is not changing, then you don't have to reapply, but obviously you'll need to go through HR.
5. It depends on you and the specifications of the post.
Thank you for replying to my queries
Suppose an IMG wants to get into core surgical training...where is it easier to build your cv,in a training or non training job?
Ease is based on your own ability and ambition.
Hello dr ibreez, thanks for informative video, can u please explain if i have got gmc registration Am i eligible to apply for Fy2 standalone
It's one of the requirements, but you will need to ensure you meet all the criteria to apply.
For GMC registration,Do we have to pass both plab 1 n plab2 within 2 years after oet result? I mean whether plab 2 should also be passed within 2 years?
OET has a 2 year validity. So if you want to get GMC registration with the same OET, you need to complete everything within 2 years.
@@RoadToUK Thank you doctor
If you already have an acceptable 12 month internship from your home country (so you can't apply for FY1), can you still apply for FY-1 level non-training jobs? or you're only able to apply for FY-2 level jobs (whether its standalone or non-training)?
Yes you can.
Excuse me I am an IMG and I wanted to look into the possibility for me to start in the UK at a level equal to an intern, basically a position where I can learn things where there are limited clinical expectations from me because I just recently finished my 4th year , how do I go about it ?

No.
So basically for that .5 in writing (I got 7.0) I have to retake IELTs to get FY2 standalone job...oh my gosh :'( this is unfair... Why the IELTS requirement is higher and OET is same.
EDIT: Okay, I rewatched the video and now things got clear...the first few mins got me scared as I was frustrated of the thought of retaking IELTS ...I thought to get into IMT, I must need to go through UKFPO programm.
So basically, what Ibreeez apu has said is its actually better if u go through the CREST pathway provided that you are dedicated.
It's a conspiracy :P It's okay, non-training jobs will still do the trick :)
@@RoadToUK yeah apu....thanks for the clarification comment on facebook too.
I think a pros and cons video for training vs non training post would be great to the addition (just a random thought!)
Really, the only con to a training post is if it's your first job and you may get overwhelmed. And the only con of a non training job is that your progression depends on your proactiveness.
Hi Dr. Farhan, so does it mean itâs better going through the non train pathway using the crest form?
Hello, are IMGs in non-training jobs required to do the SJT exam when applying to core training?
No.
Hi, thank you for all the information! My boyfriend and I are thinking about taking the PLAB 1 exam before January but we are still medical students (our expected graduation date is December 2022). We were wondering if we can sit for PLAB 1 without being graduated.
Hope you see this
Hi, I thought I'd share what I know. You can give the PLAB 1 as long as you have a 'Primary Medical Qualification'. Meaning you need to have passed your final year medical exams.
Some medical school require you to have done a year in-house as an intern (FY1 equivalent) to officially 'graduate'.
So essentially you can give your plab 1 before you graduate as long as you're done with your undergraduate exams
@@FZ-bk9kh Thank you for your answer! This information is very helpful for us.
Is yours considered a pre-graduate program?
@@RoadToUK I believe so. Here in Argentina we have 5 years as medical students and a final year of clinical rotations before the university provides us with the degree. Could we still open a gmc account and book for plab 1 next year ?
@@solortolani9575 If it is pregraduate, you will need to graduate first.
thanks mam for the video..but still i have a doubt about, if i do a non training job for 1yr..do i still have ro do fy2 standalone???
No.
thanks mam..but after doing 1year of non training job, can i directly join internal medicine training???
