    you have such a kind & genuine energy! i may or may not be moving to chico for school (24f, already graduated somewhere else but might go for nursing) & had this pop up. is it mainly 18-21 or are there people in their mid 20’s/late 20’s?

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 2 měsíci +1

      thank you! There’s definitely a good crowd of people in their mid-late twenties, but I can’t say I know how many are around from experience since they’re mostly at the bars and shows in the area. If you come out here though you’ll definitely be able to find some good people!

    What made you decide to enroll at Chico?, because im currently between 3 universities SDSU, Long Beach and Chico. So far ive been accepted to Chico, but im still waiting for a response from those two universities.

      I decided to enroll at Chico because of the affordability and accessibility. The cost per semester is really low, and I’ve been able to avoid debt so far because of the aid programs I’ve been able to get involved with. There’s also multiple clubs and programs at the school that are focused on community-building and providing support to students, like the CCLC (Cross cultural learning center) or PATH Scholars (a program for former foster youth and unaccompanied/at risk youth). It’s also really beautiful. I’ve grown up around SoCal and South Florida , so I’ve seen some amazing locations, but the amount of nature in Chico is incomparable. The party rep didn’t hurt either, but you can find those at any college tbh.

      @@toniotodd in terns of getting a job, is it easy to find one?

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@luiscarlos-mn5rk It depends. If you qualify for work study there’s a few jobs you’ll be able to find on Handshake, but even those jobs aren’t bringing many people on right now because of the low enrollment. Even if you get hired, you’re limited to 20hrs per week (which I’ve literally never reached in four semesters) , so it’s hard to live on just work study. That being said, there’s plenty of stores/restaurants around town that will hire you, or you could do what I’m doing and have one work study job and one job outside of the university.

    Can you stay in the dorms longer than freshman year? My daughter loves this school. I just want her to be happy make friends and live nicely. What sororities for African Am. are there?

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 2 měsíci +1

      due to limited housing availability I don’t think the school allows students to stay after freshman year except under special circumstances. they’re not the greatest in terms of living conditions though, they’re just good for making friends first year.

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Also, I’m not aware of any specific African American sororities (the vast majority of members in those orgs are white with a small amount of latinx membership), but they don’t discriminate, I think preconceived notions of Greek life just deter certain demographics (myself included for the first two years). If that doesn’t work for your daughter, there are also multiple clubs/organizations with similar alignments/goals. I’m not involved with any of them because they seem heavily focused on their racial identity, but I don’t have the firsthand experience to give you in-depth insight there. Hope this helps!

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 3 měsíci

      super overpriced and they raise the rents every year to scare people into resigning. things are extremely low-quality (ie, we’ve had 3 microwave handles break, needed to have the washer/dryer entirely replaced, and the AC went out all the time). just not good value for your money imo

  • @BrentSilberbauer
    @BrentSilberbauer Před 5 měsíci

    Wait, your six roomates live in a house that is close to campus and is valued at $150k? Being close to campus is prime real estate for rentals, nothing down there is even remotely valued at $150k. Odds are you're paying about average rents - $600-$700/room close to campus. Can be $800/room if it's super close to campus.

    • @toniotodd
      @toniotodd  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You’re correct, these prices are relatively average for the area, and that’s the issue. All of the houses close to campus are owned by a handful of management companies that have raised rent progressively year after year. I met with the President the week before break and a few of the other students at the event also brought up cost of living. The average full time student cannot afford these rates, plus, the safety and quality of living is not proportionate to these prices. I’m right next to campus and have had 3 break ins and 4 people have broken into cars in the back of our house. If the university wants more students, they’ll need to make off-campus/ near-campus options affordable, and safer. Especially considering the limited options for campus housing to begin with. Apartments like the Post on Nord are asking as much as 1100/month as well, and they’re neither close to campus, nor houses. It’s just a mess.
