In public "perception", it is 1. CP-SLO (essentially a mid-tier UC like UCD, UCI or UCSB... UCSD-like level for engineering, UCLA/Cal-like level for architecture) 2. CP-Pomona (a mid-tier UC for architecture and engineering), 3. SDSU (a mid-tier UC for business, and liberal arts) , ("4." Maritime, very small and niche, but reputable as a state-level Maritime Academy), 4. Long Beach, Fullerton, San Jose (low-tier UCs like UCR, UCSC), 5. Sonoma, Monterey Bay and Stanislaus (low tier UCs for liberal arts), all other CSUs go by programs. For example, all are great for nursing. Humboldt has great forestry.

Even I knew that as a freshman who was sadly drunk or high half the time (I have changed, praise Jesus) that if I didn't show up to class hungover or not I would fall way behind. SDSU Business majors ALWAYS get jobs. The Nursing Program at SDSU is ranked top in the nation. The sciences are also very respected.

The rankings are based on completely different criteria. Rankings don't mean anything unless you explain what the criteria they are based on. San Diego State is the only CSU that has multiple PHD programs (they have to be joint degrees affiliate with a PHD granting UC school) so US News puts it in the National University category which are research universities. The CSU's were originally established for Bachelors and Masters granting for CA high school students with GPA's in the top 1/3 of their class and UC's were the research universities for Bachelors, Master and PHD's for CA students in the top 12% of high school GPAs.

@@assassin7250 It is a lot more common for people to be successful by going to top colleges than some average ones. Good colleges typically have good major. Also your peers will be talented students as well, so you are kind of forced into this intense studying environment and make you become better. And if you look at the starting salaries for top 20 schools and some average ones, you notice a great difference. So yeah whereever you go you can be very successful, but thing is you need to work a lot harder to compensate for the difference in prestige. There is only 1 chance of life and life has time limits, so I don't see why not try the best to get into good schools and become good at an early stage

Let me tell you, there’s nothing wrong with going to a community college in fact it saved me a ton of money and would recommend it. You won’t see it now, but if you go straight to 4 years, you’ll likely be overwhelmed with debt once you graduate. Anyways, I transferred to CSUMB after 3 years in CC and graduated in 2 years. Thanks for the recommendation!! By the way I've another doubt:
is CSU really recommended for CS? The comments here are mostly about Business studies so I guess it's good for Business studies and not very much recommended for CS?

@@technicalmaster-mind Please do not take the above advice from this individual San Jose State has one of the best CS programs and the kids coming out of there. are rivaling the Berk and Stanford kids for jobs so please pick the school that gives you the most money. Knowledge only comes by application of study not by the name of the school.

lol CSU's are trash and are made for kids with no skill. UCs are much better. If you can't get into a UC like Berkeley UCLA UCSD or at least UCI, try to attend community college first instead of CSU's because it's a lot easier to transfer from Community college. College prestige matters to a certain degree, because people from a top college usually come out with lot of more skills and knowledges, where in CSU ur just trying to pass classes and a lot of times you don't learn anything special.

It really depends on your individual goals. There are motivated and non-motivated kids in both school systems, so you cannot generalize the knowledgeable stereotype to every UC student. CSU is more meant for job readiness but UC is more meant for research. There are pros and cons in both systems, but once you enter in the workforce your school prestige doesn't matter at that point anymore, it's all about your work experience from there. Usually companies look more for your skills than your college prestige. Also not everyone can afford a UC so they go to CSU for that reason. While it may be true that CSUs are not as prestigious as the UCs, a CSU student can put in some more work to match the level of knowledge of someone who attends a UC.

If your GPA is above 3.7, I don't think a CSU school is a disadvantage. I will say that UC Berkeley tries to reinvent the wheel. But at the end of the day, you still have a wheel.

I would love a part 2 which would include an in-depth analysis of each university. Great video!
