      @henrihelanto2937 Před 9 lety +1

      Fuel economy, maybe, even though direct injection has leveled the field considerably. But reliability? 2-strokes have a huge advantage, being very simple in design, requiring far less maintenance and having proven themselves over time. The (relative) misery that has taken place with 4-stroke dirt bikes since the 90's gives a good indicator of what to expect with outboards. Unfortunately. I'd like having a quiet, fuel-efficient 4T outboard, but sheer weight as well as cost and trouble of maintenance - not to mention expected service life - keeps me away from them in foreseeable future.

      After three 4-stroke Mercs - last of which ruined my last season - I still have a pair of 1970's (!!!) 2-stroke OMC:s that have been 100% reliable all this time with nothing more than new bearings, rings + honing and gaskets. Thirsty, noisy, even smoky, but they just work and that's what really matters. I'm currently doing a complete rebuild on an '89 crossflow, instead of just buying a Verado. I've spent way too much time in tow and way too many $1000's on servicing what essentially is unnecessarily complicated, unproven (in marine applications) and fragile technology.

      I'm a Merc guy, but I also know what the downfalls of the Merc Opti-booms were. And if you think that a 250 Opti would smoke a 250 Etec, you are so wrong it's not even funny.
      The Etecs are very reliable compared to the Opti and they make great power. The current Evinrude outboards do not suffer from the lack of quality control Johnson and Evinrude outboards of the late 80's and 90's did. With the discontinuing of the Merc Optimax, Merc have finally stepped up their game and made some properly fast and hopefully reliable engines.
      I just switched from a 300XS to a 300R, and I have reduced my acceleration times as well as gained 1.7 mph in top speed. Had Merc not come out with these new V8 outboards, my Mate would now hsve an Etec on its back.

    4 strokes will always outlast the new evinrude, they're an overly sensored, complicated,problematic motor. Lighter more power per pound but it is not worth the hassle of rigging and maintenance. Mercury or Suzuki is what you want

    i motori sono stati montati correttamente ? Che eliche usano ? Sono uguali per tutti e tre ? la scia dell' evinrude sembra più stretta....quella yamaha è la più larga di tutte....eppure il 4 tempi yamaha dovrebbe avere più coppia....e se questa prova si facesse in Giappone che risultati ci sarebbero ? Ma i giapponesi non si sprecano a farla...sono persone serie e non si piegano a certe buffonate....la qualità dei loro prodotti è il miglior biglietto da visita....

      Those old Black Max outboards were insanely strong runners, and very light. My first boat was a '91 16' Sea Ray with a 150 XR2 and a jackplate. Ran an honest 73 mph with a 28" Chopper.

      Lol. Just stop right there. Do you realize how silly that sounds? It very common knowledge that the Yamaha 4 strokes have absolutely terrible torque numbers - even Yamaha knows this. This is why Yamaha never uses that as a selling point.

    Now do a reliability test. The Yamaha is sure to win.
    Btw, 2 stroke engines have really high carbon emissions, so much so that 2 stroke engines are banned in Australia.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X Před 5 lety

      You do realize that the Etec G2 has just tested independently and are shown to have the lowest carbon output...
      Yamaha sure had better reliability than the Merc optimax, but that's not saying much. However, the supercharged Verados are very good, and the new Merc V8 engines sure looks to be fighting for the title. Add to that, the Yamaha are known to be reliable, but not fast. If Merc has gotten the reliability up to snuff on the new engines, it looks like Yamaha has a hard fight on their hands. And when Merc debuts their new turbocharged V8 outboards, it will be a complete game changer, both in terms of power-to-weight ratio, fuel consumption, reliability and sheer bottom end torque.
      Time will tell, but Yamaha needs to find ways to get away from those 1000 lbs anchors they call outboards.
