Currahee is from Cherokee meaning “stand alone” it was the name of the mountain which they trained on that was not part of a range, so a “stand alone” peak. It was the motto of the 506.
BRING DA ENERGY!!!! Totally psyched that you guys are watching this, arguably the greatest miniseries ever. Winters, and the men of Easy Company, are true heroes and this miniseries will make you appreciate what they and so many of the "Greatest Generation" did 80 years ago.

Thank you for taking on this great series. You are perceptive and catch the fine points. I'm always glad when younger folks (I'm in my 70s) take an interest in our history. Probably because I taught it a long time ago. Looking forward to your next reaction. Currahee!
I served as well in the early 1980s. As someone with an absentee father growing up I look back on basic training as a male right of passage and it doesn’t seem like we have many of those these days. I probably learned a lot about being a more responsible man from basic training. I know it differs for everyone but that’s what I took away from it.
Nixon actually ran 3 miles to take the map that Winters gave him to Division. It turned out to be vital intelligence on German gun positions in the Cherbourg to Caen area ( Utah/ Omeha)
@@FriendRequestReviewshey fellas since this came up on my feed and I love to watch younger generations reacting to the series I subbed up right off the bat!! I've read through some of the comments and can see that you guys are probably just about through with the series already on patreon!! I'd like to say that I'm sure you guys have noticed that this focuses on white troops mostly!! It's an unfortunate sign of the times in the 40s that the black men were relegated to minor roles in the Infantry!! They do give a nod in episode 5 as they show a black man driving one of the heavy transport trucks!! That was mostly where they were relegated were roles of driver or perhaps cooks and the like!! I don't know if you guys are familiar with the Tuskegee Airmen, but the new series which is supposed to be the third part of the trilogy of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Masters of the Air, Masters of the Air focuses on the Air Force's bombing campaign in occupied Europe!! This took place from the summer of 1943 up until the end of the war!! But very late in 1943, and the beginning of 1944, the P-51 mustang fighter was introduced!! This would give the bombers the ability for an escort all the way to their target and back which they had not had previously and part of the P-51 Force were the Tuskegee Airmen which was an all black unit!!! There's also a great movie which tells the story from 1995 called the Tuskegee Airmen starring Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr and others!!! Hoping to see you guys react to the Pacific and Masters of the Air!!🎉
Based on the book by Stephen Ambrose. These actors are playing the roles of the real men of Easy Company. Some of them got to meet the men they were going to portray. The interviews being shown, are some of the actual men from Easy Company, at the end, they will reveal who they are. They didn't want to spoil it early on. This is my favorite mini-series of all time. I've lost count on how many times I've watched it. I remember on my first watch, in the beginning, all I saw was strangers, by the end, I felt like they were some of my best friends, even though I never had the honor of meeting any of them. There are some mistakes made in the series, as well as the book. Not intentional, they didn't have internet to quickly look things up back then, so they took some stuff on faith, and turned out to be wrong a few times. Even with some of the flaws, it's a great memorial to the men of Easy Company. And you are correct, Bill said, 'I'm sorry for my mom'.
Funny I first watched Band of Brothers while I was deployed in Iraq in 2005. Bought the dvd set just outside fob Scania Where we were picking up our next convoy.
It's funny what you said about enlisted becoming officers because that's exactly what happened to Winters. I forget the details but he started out enlisted and then went to OCS before joining the paratroopers as a Lt.
There are two major themes in this series. The first from the title, Band of Brothers, is about small unit cohesion. The second, that you caught quickly is about leadership. You see a couple examples of good leadership and a couple real poor ones.
Glad to see you guys reacting Band Of Brothers. I just finished up your Sopranos series. Y’all are some of my favorite reactors! This series is not only amazing, but important. You’ll know all their names in no time, and they become your buddies. 🇺🇸
I've watched a lot of BoB reactions, and I can you guys right now, you are gonna love this series, and I'm gonna enjoy watching it again with you. I really like having a military guy watching and giving his perspective. Buckle up. It's a ride. Subscribed.
If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup." I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant, and a true story. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠
Watched The Wire with you guys and really enjoyed every step of the way. Super excited for BoB, just like The Wire it's the best in its category. Don't worry about not tracking all the characters, there are too many to track them all, and some will be zoomed in on as you go.
Love seeing a veteran react to this. One of the best series ever and one I've watched many channels react to. Watching younger Europeans react to this is also pretty enjoyable. "I know Liption... cause I drink tea" cracked me up. How the hell are you still at 7K??? You all have a great channel! Keep at it!
I have read Spike Milligan’s war diaries, I recommend them. In them he describes how the army (British) would just post incompetent men to other regiments rather than just kick them out.
Band of Brothers comes from Shakespeare's Henry V: “From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered; We few, we happy few, we band of brothers….” Currahee is a Cherokee word meaning "together, we stand alone”
This is one of the best history lessons you will ever get! There are actually 11 episodes. The last is We Stand Alone Together (the full meaning of Currahee). This is a series of interviews with some of the, attge time, survivors of the unit. Sadly, they are all gone now It's like the little introduction interviews only you getting put the names to the faces. DO NOT misstatements episode! You might also enjoy the numerous videos on CZcams who are the actors discuss the making of Band of Brothers some of those are hysterical
After reading some of the books on these heroes and events I say the show is about 80% accurate. Most of it is artistic license but the error concerning Blythe's death was just a mistake. There was another Blythe in the company that died and the producers just got the wrong Blythe. This is one of the best TV shows ever made. I really think of it highly.
It wasn't just land navigation Sobel was bad at. He left the ambush position and got ambushed in return. He was too into the gung ho frontal assault approach for everything.
Saving Private Ryan is a great fictional depiction. But fiction it is. BoB holds close to the history book of the same name. The gentlemen you hear at the outset of the episode are actual men of Easy Co.
Committing suicide bc you couldn't go to war to fight for your country. America doesn't make men like that anymore. Glad to see you guys watching this one
Surely that says more about people's attitudes at the time towards men who were unable to serve in the military due to the military's rules...at the time. I hope that the U.S. DOESN'T make men anymore who kill themselves because they're too short, short-sighted or, God forbid, the only source of their family's income or judged as unqualified to serve in the military because of whatever the military thinks makes one "qualified".
I don't think that people are born different. It's the country that changed. It was more simple then, we stood for freedom and our enemies stood for facism. Now its so beurocratic and convoluted. I'm not even sure that we are the good guys.
Got to disagree with the infantry being bad at land navigation and needing artillery guys to help lol But if you were a arty guy that was a nice dig I can’t lie lol
lol I was an arty guy... but just based off my experience, I feel like we came out of AIT with better land nav skills. When I went to my unit, I had to help teach infantry privates how to do it.

I think BoB does a great job about showing the difference here. 9:37. The soldier getting bawled out by Captain Sobel is Burton "Pat" Christenson, played by a then-unknown Michael Fassbender.
