@@DaKidsReactevery time I see someone new reacting to the series it makes my heart feel good!! I see you're almost finished with it so by now you understand the kind of men these were and why they are called the GREATEST GENERATION!!
The series was groundbreaking and one of the things that made it so much of a landmark series and so different than anything that was ever done before is the fact that they had the ACTUAL VETERANS who were still alive to tell the story!!!
I believe that this series SHOULD be shown in SCHOOLS to kids so that they UNDERSTAND and do not forget the history and why they are free as they are today!!!
I hope you guys one day will show it to YOUR kids!!!
There are two more series for you to tackle also done by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg!! The next one is the Pacific which focuses on the Marines who fought in the Pacific Islands against the Japanese!! Very very intense series and has a different vibe than Band of Brothers!!
Once you tackle that series the newest one, which is still streaming, it's called Masters of the Air!! And that series focuses on the 8th Air Force and they're bombing campaign over Germany in 1943 and 1944!!! We focusing especially on the 100th bomb group, which was nicknamed the BLOODY 100th!!
In my opinion of the three series and three different branches of the military that we focus on Masters of the Air might be the one that took the WORST toll on our soldiers!!
Anyway looking forward to seeing the rest of your reactions to this and hopefully you'll do the other two series too!!

USMC infantry officer here (2011-2020). Really liked y’all’s reaction overall and when you commented “what if you need to shit/dookie”, it made me actually start laughing. Some of the funniest/grossest moments have happened because yeah, when you cram hundreds/thousands of dudes together into tight spaces on a set mission where you can’t say “hey time out, I need to take a shit”…I remember during one live fire training exercise, one of the Marines in our XO’s vehicle got the bubble gut and was trying to crap into an empty MRE box while the vehicle was moving over rough terrain; he got about 90% into the box but then the other 10% got on our FO’s assault pack, he was so pissed haha

Just a second comment on this. Easy Company credited Sobel with their training. If he hadn't been so hard, they wouldn't have been as effective as the they were. But, the show has just started. The last member of Easy Company died in 2022. One helluva a life. I know how I felt about my fellow soldiers who served in Vietnam when I was in. These guys saw appreciation from Veterans all over.

@@DaKidsReactjust to give you a little context between Saving Private Ryan and this series, saving Private Ryan takes place on D-Day June the 6th 1944!! Our second episode of Band of Brothers starts on the early morning hours of June the 6th 1944!!
Band of Brothers was in the 2nd battalion of the 506 PIR (parachute Infantry regiment), and Ryan's outfit was the 1st battalion of the 506 th!! Pay attention during the movie and you will hear him say it!! So their outfits would have been very closely tied together!! In essence Ryan could have been one of the thousands of soldiers that you see gathering in episode 2!!😮

Interesting fact about Winters that gives a big idea as to why he was such a good leader...he enlisted in August of 1941 and completed training as an enlisted man, then he remained at the camp where he trained to help train other men after him. He was selected for Officer Candidate School in April 1942, and after he finished that training and became an officer in July 1942 he volunteered for the Airborne...so when we see him as a Platoon Leader in Easy, that is his third set of training that Winters is undergoing.

Such a fantastic opening episode to a series. The real guys at the start, the training story, seeing the bonds form, the culmination of those bonds solidifying at the end, and the brief glipse of the awe inspiring scale of that Dday invasion.
    Some numbers:
150,000 troops landed in france by sea and air on D day, over a million were grouped in England prior, and would land in the coming days.
over 6000 ships across the allied navies set sail from england to france.
50,000 vehicles were shipped to be surfaced on the beaches,
11,000 planes fought, or delivered troops the night before or on the day.
11,000 men died on the allied side in that one day. 13000 on the Axis side approximately.
That was just day 1, in europe. Not long after the allies deploy across Africa and Asia, largely with the US forces coming to relieve the last holdouts of the british across their crumbling empire, but many nations formed the allies across the world. The war went from 1939 to 1945. D day was June 6th 1944, and the surrender of the german army came on May 8th 1945. The others a bit later with the bombs in japan.
A time of heroes against true evil, and we see that in the journey.

Glad you guys are watching this series. Yes that was Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). The people in the army are separated by groups. It starts with a single soldier, then a squad is made up of several soldiers, a platoon is 3-5 squads, a company is 3-5 platoons, a battalion is 3-5 companies, regiment is 3-5 battalions, 3 regiments make up a division, 2+ divisions is a corps. a kind of fun story to watch if you are interested in WW2 is the story of Jake McNiece told by The Fat Electrician. The dudes nickname was McNasty, so you know its a good story.

What impresses me with this series, is how closely they tried to stick to the truth/facts. Most films that are based on true events are good to be 11-15% in accuracy...this one (due to the fact that there were still living veterans of Easy at the time to cooperate with) worked a lot hard to be as close as possible, within reason. I believe this is why so many are drawn to it, becuase it didn't try to add to or deviate from the actual battles, actual events, and actual dialogue. Plus, the cinematography makes you feel as if you are right along with the men of Easy. Thank you both for taking the time to react to this series, and for being willing to share that with the world.

If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup." I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant, and a true story. "Jumping into Band of Brothers..." That's funny. It's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠

32:10 Sobel did jump on D-Day and Market Garden but not with Easy. From what I've read, he actually can lead.
There are some parts left out by the show which understandable including how some of the men made Sobel's situation worse by tampering with Sobel's equipment. Also about Sobel and Winter grudge, there are two sides of that story. But don't think about it, it's a tv show after all, not historical document.

  • @artbagley1406

Sobel, while proficient in finding each paratrooper candidate's STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS, nonetheless was labeled a "chicken shit" officer by author Stephen Ambrose -- bullying and punishments for petty regulation violations. Another possible adjective for Sobel's type is "martinet," anyone in authority with a tendency to cruelty. Those men who wrote the refusal to serve under Sobel were very brave men, fighting for common sense at home even before fighting an flesh-and-blood enemy in Europe. I'm duly impressed by Winters as he lends a hand to EACH ONE OF THE MEN IN HIS UNIT, helping them up and looking them in the eyes, before boarding those planes.

I think "Ross" said Currahee was 3 mi. up / 3 mi. down. As to it being "harder" back then, it was (harder times, harder war). WW1, the Great Depression & WW2 produced tough generations of American Men. Times & Technique change. As does equipment, technology & tactics. Pretty much every generation of Americans has answered the call when needed & done what was needed at the time. Easy to underestimate people, but never a good idea to underestimate the US military (yesterday & today). Those who have have regretted it. From all us Vets (as said below) Thanks for watching Fellas!!!

Your thoughts about the danger of riding an airplane into combat are insightful. Even worse, I believe, was riding in a glider pulled behind an airplane before it is released to 'glide' to the ground. Lots of the gliders had bad landings, and Walter Cronkite, later a famous news broadcaster on TV, rode into WW2 on a glider himself. He said riding inside a glider was like riding inside a snare drum - The glider was a box covered in cloth-even less protection than an airplane.

15:14 keep a keen eye, you’ll notice a lot of World at War weapons in the miniseries, since both pieces of media take place in WWII.
Speaking of World at War, I would recommend watching the Pacific after this. Not only do both pieces of media cover the US Marines fighting the Japanese in WWII, but both also show off their renditions of the Battle of Peleliu and Okinawa.

Looking forward to watching this with ya'll. A good recommendation after this series would be The Pacific, which is on the Pacific theatre against the Japanese, which was a far more inhumane and barbaric war. Then Generation Kill, which is during the Iraq war in 2003. It's interesting to watch these because you get a comparison in how war was treated by people back in the 1940's to today.

22:53 back then, if you wanted to ship someone a firearm overseas to use, you could do that. In this case, Talbert got a Colt New Service revolver from his town’s Chief of Police. The same worked the other way around as well. If you happened to capture an enemy pistol or rifle, you could ship back home to keep. I actually own a battlefield pick up Japanese rifle from WWII, thing hasn’t had it’s internals cleaned since the 1940s.

@@DaKidsReact Honestly, those were brutal, brutal deaths. Saying that, Negan, who killed Glenn and Abraham, is one of the best characters they put on The Walking Dead. If you can see a villain, and know he's a complete psycho and still like him, that's talent and Jeffrey Dean Morgan did it amazingly. If your brother hasn't seen it, maybe a redo on those seasons and continue on. Seasons 7 & 8 are probably two of the best seasons the show did.
