      Lakers were coming off back to back Finals runs and they were burnt out. That was the same series that Bynum decked JJ in mid year like a bozo. You can tell they were burnt out because they had trouble with the Hornets in their previous series, who literally only had CP3. They were running on fumes that playoff run.

      @@lilbruehh the Thunder were too young to win at the time. KD and Russ were 22, Ibaka and Harden were 21. You’re def overrating them a bit, they had no business beating a veteran team that was well balanced like the Mavs. Also Russ shot 36% from the field the entire series lmao, the origin of Westbrick.

    Even if the L.A Lakers beat Dallas, they might have had the same fate as in 1989. Getting swept in pre-rounds is easier to handle than being swept in the Finals as Jackson stated in his book (The Soul Of Success). Phil was not as affected as losses vs Detroit or against Boston (131-92).
    Let's not forget, L.A dealt with injuries in the final stage in 1989 (they won 11 consecutive playoff games but Byron Scott and Magic Johnson were injured).
    In the 2011 NBA playoffs, Kobe played with a sprained ankle and the Lakers were heavily fatigued after 3 straight NBA Finals and after so many regular season games. Phil was not at his peak given that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He chose instead to support the team until the end whether they prevail or not. He had surgery right after he came back from Dallas.

      @@el_fantasma3 that run wasn't legendary, which team in the east will be remembered from that season? GS had a far tougher run and had key players injured or missing for multiple games against Cleveland. Steph was also coming off an injury to start the playoffs and had to battle okc in the conference final.

    • @el_fantasma3
      @el_fantasma3 Před 6 měsíci

      @davidfuller2011 who cares about the team that they beat to get to the finals!! Injuries are apart of the game stop using them as excuses because the same could be said for the 2015 cavs as well. It's legendary to beat a 72 win team that was favored to win it all regardless of injury giving Cleveland it's first basketball chip ever! You just sound bitter

      Nah that’s one of the toughest championship runs in NBA history. A deep Portland roster, defending champ Lakers, young Okc big 3 in Durant Westbrook Harden, and the Miami Big 3 in Lebron, Wade & Bosh. You could argue the Lakers were dealing with a lot of injuries, but still, what an impressive run. Nobody expected Dallas to win
