    It is nearly impossible to get the 2tb seagate for the Xbox Series X Over here in Ireland without paying a arm and a leg for it, as for WD the max they are doing it only the 1TB, they need to be a lot cheaper than what they are now charging for them. Esp for the prices they charge for them over here in Ireland.

      I agree. I have a 1TB expansion card and a 2TB one. I love them. You literally have your games on a ''cartridge''. So in a way, digital games are therefore turned into physical games because they're all on a plastic cartridge! I love it. But they're too damn expensive. The cheapest 2TB card was on Amazon. Walmart wanted $400 for it!!!
      I was shocked, that's almost as much as I paid for the console! But Amazon had one for $250. It needs to come down to at least $150. I'm good with that. And yes, if they had one that's 4TB it would be better.

    • @darthwiizius
      @darthwiizius Před 28 dny

      It's the form factor. Inside the card is just an M2 NVMe in the short form factor with some custom firmware to keep the system locked and block using third party drives. The form factor restricts the number of Flash chips to one which restricts the capacity and potential bandwidth of the drive. They could easily make a card with a full length NVMe in it and give capacities up to 8TB. Part of the extra expense is that the short NVMes are not manufactured in the sheer quantities of full length drives so cost more per unit to produce, though charging over 4TB money for 2TB of storage is still outrageous.

    • @darthwiizius
      @darthwiizius Před 28 dny

      It's not possible. NVMes have to be connected directly to the CPU through PCIe lanes which are a finite resource. You need direct lanes for the RAM, the GPU and fast NVMe storage. With the RAM being in a SOC format with 8 chips they'll be using more lanes than a PC's RAM, I suspect that the Series X, at least, is maxing out the CPU's PCIe lanes in and out with all the memory bandwidth and an extra NVMe slot on the back.

    I mean, if you really think about it… The expansion cards are basically what we used to use for memory cards on the PlayStation 1/2 and original Xbox. Of course, they were used to just keep save files. But that was back when we didn’t need games to be installed.

    I've been using an external 5TB WD Black HDD with my Series X. I keep games I am currently playing on the console and everything else on the external. 60 games installed and I still have 2-3 TB of storage left. One thing they don't tell you is that some X/S version games still run on regular external HDDs. Not all, but some. Games also run perfectly on the external, no lag or stuttering. So I don't think the newer X/S SSDs are really worth it.

    I don't think future XBOX hardware will have options for expandable storage capable of performance parody to the relative system. Like one of your previous videos speculated, Xbox is most likely going to use ARM on the next gen and hand held device. The closest examples of similar ARM devices is the current Mac line up. The whole system is soldered together, and gives it a huge advantage with bus speeds for the ram and ssd. I speculate that the next xbox will be much smaller, it will likely be similar in size to the Mac mini. If this is the case, I assume they will have 2-3 SKUs for console and handheld, with different storage sizes. Ram will probably be 16GB, but it will be much faster. Xbox's preservation team's main focus is likely to get older Xbox and PC games to run on ARM.

    If Microsoft would let us buy a higher ssd memory that has the same write speed and let the console use it (its files to access the games folder & etc). Then people will upgrade their consoles to buy more games from the marketplace. Only down side I see from this is that you will have to break the console warranty sticker. If the Xbox made the ssd more accessible like the ps5 (remove the cover or have an opening like the 360 slims had but smaller).

    I mean there's a lot of reasons why game sizes have gone up. Mainly because we went from 512MB of unified memory to 16GB (with the OS competing for that space as well). Game engines were built around this limitation, that's why many games still used a lot of repeating textures and assets, basic- an almost monochromatic kind of lighting, texture detail levels were adapted for 720p. These days, we have photorealistic- and bespoke assets, inane amount of texture layering, everything adapted to 4K output (9x the pixel density)...
    I mean we don't need what the new consoles offer in terms of "enjoying games". But there's always this urge to push technical boundaries... Personally I would be okay if just stuck to a certain limitation and learnt to truly optimize for it rather than chasing the next big thing. After X360, graphics stopped to matter for me... Heck I even enjoy the level of graphics produced by the Dreamcast. :) What makes games enjoyable these days have very little to do with graphics, at least for me 😅

    I will never understand the complaint of file size I only play maybe one or two games at a time so I can just delete what i'm not playing and redownload/or reinstall when I want to play it again, oh your internet connection is not fast that's ok just buy physical. I've never payed for expanded storage and I don't need. It's really not a problem you want a problem with Xbox where are the games?

    SSD memory will grow in time as it becomes cheaper and internet speeds will increase soon as well so it shouldn't be as big a problem in 5-10 years but till then yeah the improvements in textures will need to chill tf out.

    Most of my Series S games are old 90’s to 2000’s era like Shenmue and 1993 Doom just a few GB or MB not too big plus I have about 6 terabytes of separate 2 expansion storage on top of that. I think I’ve only used about 17% or so. The biggest game I own I think is Marvel Avengers. Besides that I have plenty of storage.😂

    A physical game isn't what it used to be. The physical game is basically just a key card to allow you to unlock and download the game.

    If Xbox went with a handheld, a true native handheld and not just a remote play device, they would have an advantage. I'd be tempted to buy it, especially if they managed to include steam compatibility. I so badly want xbox to succeed.
    Game sizes are ridiculous. It's especially egregious with games like Call of Duty because half that space is skins and unlockables that you can't access without getting past a pay wall. They had the audacity to install it on your system and then charge you extra to access the stuff they installed when you bought the game.
    Those skins are all on your hard drive whether you buy them or not.

    Don’t get why they can’t put in a 1.5 Terabyte hard drive have the 500GB for the extra stuff they need for your console then you still get the whole 1 Terabyte for storage would make more sense! Save people having to buy external storage!

  • @Eight-Bites
    @Eight-Bites Před měsícem

    It's because storage limits have gone up tremendously, they used to be extremely limited with the space they had to work with, especially when games were physical disc's. So what actually happened, is that they're no longer needing to abide by those limits, and not having to utilize as much compression, and other space saving tricks. That's it, it's not some conspiracy, and electronics are costing a ridiculous amount to produce nowadays, especially when it comes to memory.

    Larger games means buy more storage and when Microsoft introduce proprietary storage its a win win for them. They should have been held to account for this. Current consoles should come with a minimum 4tb which console makers pretend it would be too expensive. But in actual fact, supplying 4tb instead of the measly 1tb it would cost them about 50 bucks more, for us when they price adjust, it would be an extra 200 bucks. As if games and gamepass and dlc isn't enough for them to fleece us.
