Since Don Mattrick became "Sony employee of the decade", I see why M$ has been working overtime on the Xbox Series X - both in hardware and marketing. This is a win for us as gamers - that's all there is
The original Xbox One plan had quite a few good ideas, just with poor messaging that translated into unnecessary nerd rage.
@@NovaPrima hope you are not a troll but good ideas go down the toilet when accompanied by pure excrement. I'll tell you what Zero Punctuation said - if you make the best chocolate bar on the planet but present it on pictures of my parents f*cking, used drug needles besides it, broken glass... you get the picture. I'm not gonna care
To be fair, I think Don Mattrick was a mercenary. Or the executioner. I got the vibe from him that he really doesn't care, he was just there to do what the committee told him. I mean he was shit, but I do think that it wasn't exactly his fault that things went the way it did. At least I feel like the X1 was designed (or at least specced) by a committee and nobody who actually liked Xbox was involved in the decision making process. Naturally, this is just speculation on my part.
@@9UWmember you might be right but I keep hearing that Don wasn't worried about the consumer experience he was more worried about trying to monotize the platform in a way to make Microsoft more money. That's why we had 3rd party exclusives and whatnot at the time because he was pro business and not pro consumer
@@Picmanreborn Might be. And whatever the motivations, he wasn't the guy the Xbox crowd needed to be in charge. His tenure will not be missed and we will not sing songs in his praise.

got to admit, I'm rather impressed.
@Bryce Czirr you are calling broken HDR on PC the best option there is ? With XSX i can play ANY game with auto HDR function fully compatible. Imagine old Splinter Cell games with that feature baby boi
@Bryce Czirr show me a PC build for 600$ with this spec. You can't.
People that think having a better plastic box full of wires makes them special though 😂😂😂😂
@Bryce Czirr THE PRICE THOOO
Emanu3000 Exactly. Sure you can make a PC with better specs than this console, but not for anywhere close to the price this console will release at, likely $600.
That SSD looks like the one Master Chief uses at the end of Halo Infinite trailer. Hmm.
If there isnt a Cortana themed ssd expansion I'm going to be stunned
Wow it does! I want a hot cortana skin for mine.
Yeah the little Cortana chip also appears in Halo 3
Big oof when the price of that SSD is announced. 200% markup, calling it now.
Glad I don't have to worry about Master Chief running out of memory in the new game
Old generation games with auto enhancements from the console itself with no help from the developers?.. that’s crazy!
Sorryimtruthful We had that with the One X and it’s incredible. Like getting a free remaster.
@Shank Adams
You mean games for people with no friends.
Yes eciting But i still want to see some of the old OG & 360 games be made back compatible with enhancements like forza 1-4 & project gotham racing to name a few !
@@TATTIEPICKER lol we have an Xbox fangirl here, don't confuse and compare Death Stranding or it's fans with other great exclusives and their fans lol 🤦♂️
@Sorryimtruthful You're late to the party, we already have this feature with the Xbox One X emulator. All Microsoft has to do is get permission from the developer and the emulator does the rest. That's why Red Dead Redemption One is in native 4k on the X and 720p or less on the Pro. It's pretty easy to do with that built in emulator.
I don't think many people will understand how big a CPU upgrade the series X is getting.
The best part is how that means the 120Hz compatibility isn't just a niche feature - it's actually possible. High refresh rate is probably the best way to use a CPU because it makes games feel so damn smooth.
In a perfect world, 4K 120Hz HDR would be not a thousand dollars just for the screen. Alas...
Steven Steiner . Just anybody with a little knowledge of PCs.
You mean APU. And yes you are right, this is exciting stuff!

I'm wondering the read & write cycles on those, they won't last with the amount of demanding processing.
Letting DF reveal all the specs of the new Xbox is just proof of how confident MS is.
Now, I want to see Halo Infinite running on the Series X already. Come on, Microsoft!
Forget Halo its their flagship game so Im sure they aren going to bottle it. Im way more interested in the new first party exclusives we can expect. Personally I couldnt care less about Halo, Gears and Forza Horizon.

They're going to keep using power as an excuse to not optimize, spend 50% of the budget on graphics, 900p30fps, etc.
no but seriously though, this shows incredible confidence on Microsoft's part and I think Sony will need to work really hard to counter this kind of all out blowout. Ever since the One X Microsoft clearly realized that if they want to come out in style, Digital Foundry is the place to do it. And they’re right!

@@redhunter1535 i think they are not doing any announcements for 3 reason:

@@familiacioroaba1472 are you going to get ps5?
You're really going to love the series X then. Load times are insane on most games. RIP loading screen tips.
wow. The way it uses the SSD memory is the most impressive thing I've seen in hardware in a long time. Loading only textures that are needed at any given time. This is a real game changer.
Not to be a party-pooper, but devs commonly used N64 cartridges to also work as a sort of virtual memory to directly stream in assets as the cartidges were actually directly mapped into memory space.
(this is before such a practice was discontinued due to security reasons - the GBA was the last system to work this way and is why the DS's official memory expansion for the Opera browser even works at all through the GBA slot)
"real game changer" huh, nice pun.
So this means data that doesn't change such as images or textures can simply be loaded from SSD straight to the CPU without needing to be in RAM. Data that changes such as scores will be held in RAM.

@@yoltsbp you've definitely missed his point. He's saying that because its available on both, and play anywhere is a thing, he can play the same games (through gamepass) with shared saves across PC and console.
I haven't had a mainline console for years but at this point I'm not even sure how my PC is going to keep up with this. Very impressive work Xbox this is how you put value into a console and the infrastructure behind it
Technically, it still doesn't compete with $900+ PCs, but now that features such as Ray-tracing are going to be in consoles it means it'll be more common and have better optimization. So these Next Gen consoles are indirectly going to improve PC gaming.
ScarfFox and Friends I mean 900 dollar PCs now a days are running Ryzen with a 5600xt or a 2060 super if you find one for 300-320. Those definitely will not compete with the graphical prowess that the series X will have day 1.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 It's a new baseline: now, big games will have more parrallel processing, more scalable high-end assets streaming algorithms, and more memory management, when developped on consoles.
Thus, eventually, PC requirements will shoot up to match this for ease of porting, unless the engines used are extremely scalable.
Thus, most "low-end" games will benefit less in development time, basically equal time for both ecosystems (pc and console): only minor tweaks needed because game does not use everything the console can give.
But very hardware intensive games will require MASSIVE hardware updates to match baseline (read: console) performances. I'd argue well beyond normal PC upgrades. SImply because not only graphic cards will be massively overhauled (as in base 2080TI performance? that's over 1000 USD just here for upgrade), but the rest of the system as well (SSD, memory bandwidth, I/O for wireless inputs) would need to be replaced as well. I'm not sure everyone wants to upgarde to NvME SSDs to match performances.
12 tflops is based on fp16 like usual. So cut it in half. The graphics performance, I assume, will probably be similar to the 5600xt, but with a lot better efficiency and ray tracing. Like I tell most people, I think the CPU and using an SSD that is not bottlenecked by a sata2 connection is more exciting. Usually consoles when they first come out are usually very good as far as price to performance, but cannot be upgraded later and usually tend to be a bit weak especially near their end of life. I like consoles but their performance are usually over hyped when they come out. What I think is cool however, is that this lowers the entry cost into raytracing making it more mainstream, and I'll be glad to see what people will do with it. Also, Tflops are an overused metric, this isn't the only thing you need to determine the performance of a gpu.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 It competes with a 2080, now in the early stages with unoptomized games. A 2080, that's $800. You know what that means? It competes with PCs that are around $1500. You literally need to spend more than that to match a $600 console x)
This is a far cry from my very underwhelming feelings when the original XBone and PS4 specs were announced.
*THIS* is what a true next gen console should look like! And while they may or may not still do the "X/Pro" mid-cycle refresh, it shouldn't be out of necessity like this time.
If the rumors are correct (and they almost certainly are), the Series X is the pro console - the standard one (Lockhart) will be announced before "E3" - it is supposed to be a 1080p60 console with otherwise similar/same features as the Series X (they will likely call it the Series S).
@@xBINARYGODx People literally have been playing 1080p 60fps for 8 or more years now on PC it makes no sense to release a console like that. 1440p 60fps would be something, yeah.

As a pc gamer, I’m so happy that consoles are getting stronger
meh
This is stronger than 95% of PC out there today. 2080 and 2080ti hold MAYBE 5% of the total market. And that is being generous. That is what this thing is equal to in terms of power, but consoles are able to utlizie ram, cpu, and gpu power more effectively than an equivalent PC. (I say this as someone with a $4k pc 2080ti water cooled gaming rig). This console is a fricking BEAST! Sure, maybe 3080 and 3080ti will blow this thing out the water, but again, that's going to be less than 5% of the PC market. It will be a couple years at least till the XX70 series nivida (the highest market share of past years) can beat out the Sereirs X. I think this is the first time in a long time that consoles have really put the pressure on the average PC gamer in terms of performance.

The low latency controllers seem totally amazing
@John Doe You may not notice the difference but there will be a difference, an improved difference.
@John Doe That's exactly what I meant, you, me or whoever won't notice milliseconds difference but those milliseconds will make a positive difference.
John Doe Isn’t it a complete improvement? Like top-to-bottom better latency? So games which had quite bad latency times in controls will be significantly better with this tech? Or is that not how this works? (Not trolling, genuinely asking).
Because if that is how it’ll work then I reckon an absolute ton of people will notice, if not, then 🤷🏽♂️
@John Doe it's lower latency either ways. Reread your last comment and tell how do you not sound like a child.
@John Doe Yes in fighting games several pros use controllers, it's been preferable to use wired though just because of the input lag.
Really great video and an incredible work from the Xbox engineer team behind the series X
3D audio underrated. Ray traced audio is important.
I could see R6S remastered using this, cuz that game really fucking needs it.
*WAVE tracing audio :)
Diffy Me too and since the console will be backwards compatible, the only thing Ubisoft needs to do is rework their audio for the new consoles (and maybe also for the old ones, since audio there is also broken at many times) and release it as an update.

Phil is clearly making up for Don Matrick's terrible xbox one...
Rumor has it Matrick never ACTUALLY left MS - they keep him in the basement of the Xbox division's building, and when anyone gets frustrated, they blow off steam by inserting Xbox One S's and Xbox One X's into his rectum. Part of the reason the Series X is designed to be its current shape is that it's easier for people to accomplish the task with the more phallic shape (whose diameter gives Matrick no comfort).

As a Electronics Engineer, my jaw is dropped. None of it is ground-breaking tech, but the generational leap is incredible. The use of storage as virtual memory is decades-old tech in the PC world, but should make things much simpler for developers.
In regards to AMD, there's no way they've managed to implement all these DirectX specifications without engineering and financial support from Microsoft and maybe even Sony. Variable Rate Shading is not even one year old! It was added in May 2019. Mesh shading is also awesome tech that I hope developers will finally use now that AMD also supports it. Let's remember that Microsoft has also been a hardware company for years now and they've surely put that expertise in the new Xbox's design.
Very impressive indeed. I'll still be a PC gamer, since I need a good PC for engineering work. For other people though this has nice value.
im glad you got to do this video.
The fact that this Xbox has one more teraflop than my PC and will cost less than half the price rustles me. XD
Good job!
Teraflops ain't everything bruh. You can even have less teraflops and perform better than something with higher tflops. Better to see what kinda gpu it performs like
the difference is that you actually could use your PC for years by now. You bought time and choices with your PC. It is only good that the consoles are powerful this time because in a few year (1-2) PC will be miles ahead again but the developed games has a higher standard. Not like the og xbox one or ps4 which were old when released and the games technology stucked a bit
Teraflops comparison isn't really the best way to compare performance of each GPUs with different architectures though. Even Digital Foundry explained that on their other video.
MHWGamer the era of consoles being released every 6-7 years is over. They will be updated in terms of hardware like we’ve seen with the one X

I doubt it though as the cross branding with the Win10 AI assistant Cortana could be confusing to the idiots and less tech savvy out there.
