  • Hey Guys, Migs Here! In today’s video, we are working on my 1974 Corvette after several months of sitting due to an awful noise coming from the clutch, as opposed to just pulling the transmission, we took out the engine and are going to do a full make over on both the engine and engine bay! My dad told me something and I think it might solve one of your problems. When you said you have to take the distributor cap off to start the corvette. You might have moisture in it. So just spray some wd-40 in it. (Water displacing-40, something else he taught me)

    If your not ever going to fix or add A/C, just get one of those cheap aluminum block off plates that goes on the firewall in place of the outer A/C box it will make working on the engine a bit easier with that box out of the way.

    Aluminum valve covers seal way better and get the one piece oil pan gasket and real good blue valve cover gaskets. Use Ultra Gray gasket maker on the intake end seals do not use the supplied gaskets or it will leak. I see double jump heads. That is a good thing. One more thing black dissipates heat and looks better than Chevy orange! Good luck Migs!

    Seems like a lot of work just to change the clutch. Would have been easier to just pull the transmission. That's what i would have done but you do you!

      He is replacing the rear main seal, as well as, a full gasket kit. Also cleaning and repaint for the engine. This is why.

    You might want to put a jack under the transmission to take the pressure off of the trans mount...

    Dude, if you are going to all the trouble of taking the motor out put new clutch disk in WHILE you have it appart. Then you get the longest amount of time possible before you have to take it appart again.

  • @playinwithfirecustoms7954

    Hey man, not sure if you're aware of this, but it looks like you've got a 327...judging by the oil fill in front of the intake and the head castings...and it's probably the higher horsepower 327...300 hp I think

    • @briang4470
      @briang4470 Před 2 lety

      Those are early to mid 60s heads, starting around 68 is when they used the double hump heads with accessory bolt holes, the heads he has are non accessory holed.

    Put a cam in the engine since you took it out

    • @briang4470
      @briang4470 Před 2 lety

      That's not a good idea at this point in time, most flat tappet cam and lifters on the market are defective and will fail very very quickly. And a roller cam is most likely out of his budget. His car already has some sort of performance cam but if he did want to change it he would need to find a NOS(new old stock) cam and lifter set from back in the day, the ones out there on the market are too risky.

    Dude, I'm ngl, I don't like the corvette, I think you should get rid of it, or store it because I feel like the mg feels like a better choice,
    I just seen a corvette of the same model, and boy was I disgusted, it's so big for what it is, nasty carburetor operated v8.
    The mg is more down to earth a better hand to hand experience, plus not many people have those in the USA anymore. They have like cult followings in Europe, so it would be easier to get parts and cheaper since it has such a strong following.
    I mean it's completely up to you, I just feel like the mg is more like you, compared to the corvette.
    I mean you could probably change my mind by restoring it, but your life shouldn't be depicted by what some idiot on youtube has to say (eg me)
