DAMN! I was a wrench for many years back in the 90's and still do all my own work. I have changed these things on other vehicles and knew mine would be under there. Once I didn't see a spot I looked on YT thinking it might be some where's else...I am now going to put it back together and act like this never happened....thanks bud!
Thank you...thank you...thank you! I have spent the last hour trying to figure out where the filter was located. I replaced the filter on my terrain and decided to do my truck (Chevy Silverado 1500 LT 2003) and could not find it. This video and info saved me a lot of aggravation. I'll be taking the filter back to the parts store tomorrow!
Thanks Jim! You saved me tons of grief and time - its always good to find videos on how to fix things, but its also great to have videos that show you what you don't have to fix. :->
Although my Chevy owners manual gives a part number for the cabin air filter for my 2003 Suburban, after searching I called the local dealer and they confirmed that some vehicles have filters for that year and some do not. My air box looks identical to the one in this video.
Great to know... Everyone was willing to sell me the filters. Returning them today and going to have a few drinks after I put the old girl back together..... thank you all
I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe - Z71 - mine looks just like this - you saved me a ton of time - thank you. Not sure if it is because it is a Z71 or not but looks like no cabin air filter in mine either..
NAPA part #600-2503 is a kit to install a filter that comes with a filter and a door! It comes with instructions on how to cut the already cast opening and it even looks like it's a GM part. It is also available through GM but the door and the filter are separate parts and don't have the instructions. They didn't put a filter in and not have a way to get it out. Also newer trucks they made the plastic a little thinner and put a guide groove in the case to make cutting easier.
thanks man I struggle alot looking for it spend days on CZcams looking for something like this I can now leave my life in peace knowing it wasn't just me!!
Javier Mancilla man, Im on the same boat. Got my AC fixed and everything and tried to do the whole thing right. Spent a day or two searching for the cabin air filter and nothing. I even bought one also. Lol. This video and your comment have made my day now.
GM eliminated the cabin filter from the 2003 and later production. The slot is still present but not opened up. The screw boss you're pointing out is for the cover screw. Cut open the bottom of the air-box forward of the screw boss where you are pointing and use a Dorman 259-100 cover and FRAM FCF8791A filter pair. There's a single filter panel but IDK the part number. The pair is easier to install as the floor gets in the way a little when you use the single panel filter. Plenty of howto posts on the web.
Yea, the best thing to do is call the GM dealer, parts dept. Give them the last 8 digits of the VIN# and they can tell you weather or not your vehicle came factory with an in cabin air filter. Also, ask them for the OEM part# so you can cross reference with your local auto parts store to ensure a correct aftermarket part and save a few pennies.
Same deal for me! 2004 Suburban. I kept watching the other videos & they were talking about a screw! No screw on mine! Guess I will send the filter back.
We have a 2003 Suburban 1500. We took apart the outer cover looking for the cabin air filter. The filter we got from the auto part store was a single very large filter. There is nothing about an air filter in the owner's manual.
Thank you for this video! I thought I was going crazy. I have a 2003 avalanche and I have the same set up as you. No cabin air filter for my model despite AutoZone and Haynes manual saying I do have one equipped
+jim lopez I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 with the same set up... I found the filter. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it out and replace it. I've heard taking out the glove box is the best way to attack it. But for now if you want visual proof of an air filter, follow these steps. 1 take off kick board 2 remove blower motor resistor 3 remove blower motor 4 take flashlight and look up inside the hole where the blower motor was. Tada!!! 5 scratch your head wondering how to get the air filter out.
Thanks. I wouldnt give up though. I have heard through others that it is located under the hood ahainst the firewall. I no longer own my 03 so I was naver able to confirm
My 2004 Chevy 2500 HD does not have an access panel to change the cabin filter. But, when I was changing my AC resistor I could see a cabin filter in there. So we actually have a cabin filter, just no way to actually change it. I was thinking that actually cutting my own access to change that filter.
This sucks, so now that we've confirmed a filter is not present... is there anything that can be done to help with the old mold smell? anything that can be cleaned? products?
Thanks for this video. I was scratching my head looking for the cabin air filter. I see all the videos of how easy it is, but I can’t remove that part they’re talking about. If you have an update on this issue please let me know.
Nice to know that URS don't have one because I have a 04 Tahoe same set up and I was trying to find mine and mine has that same knob peace and it look like it wouldn't snap off so I'm guessing mine doesn't come with a cabin air filter
You've probably already got a clogged evaporator that will need to be cleaned thanks to GM saving a buck by leaving the filters out of the 03 models and up.
I have a 2004 suburban with the exact problem. I have been out there for hours taking the cover off. Someone mentioned they use a torch to take the cover off and bought the replacement cover. I don't own a torch but I have an odor in my car and I was told that would be the reason.
Just like the fuel filter. Instead of just t being on the inside of the frame, its apart or the fuel pump. So does this mean we do not get our air filtered?
I have a 2004 2500HD .. thought for a long time I didn't have a filter either ... air flow went to almost nothing .. I took it to a jiffy lube to have the oil changed one time because my ass was lazy ! There's a filter behind the glove box positioned to the upper right with two screws. It has a primary (foam) filter at the face and a plastic grill. I'm not sure what it's for. I buttoned everything back up and decided to do more checking before I dug any deeper.
It's built in inside the fan compartment, driving 04 8,1L suburban, also the fuel filter is inside the tank, those monkeys engineers were serious bout doin some stupid designs Ay
There is one, you can see it if you remove the blower resistor module. Its hard to see but its in there. I just haven't figured out how to get to it......
I have the same truck, same year and tried to find it. I couldn't find a way in as well. I unscrewed the closest electrical harness and stuck my fingers in there and it feels like there's a filter in there. I hope somebody finds a way in, or at least maybe gm put a lifetime filter in there?
I think that's the A/C evap cooler or the heater core. The cross hatch pattern looks like a filter, but I think it's metal like a revere radiator. I was just looking in mine too.
I have 2003 chevy avalanche. thank you. okay I went to pep boys and I ask for a cabin filter and they just giving me only one I told them I guess my truck has 2 they told me only one now I can find de space for it. the reason I was going to change is because I have not received any AC on the front to my face or to my fit. only to windshield .. ?????thank you I still don't know what is going in on.

Mine didn't have it either. But you can cut the bottom out where they put it in previous years and stick a filter up in it. Dorman makes a new cover for where you cut the plastic out, (21 bucks Amazon for a 2 buck piece of plastic) or you could simply duct tape it over, Use a Fram filter www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CEG90S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
