- Cutting a hole in the heater box to blow out the plugged heater core. This hole is where the cab air filter would have been installed on these series of trucks. This did not completely fix the issue, but the vent airflow was significantly increased.

Big help! Thank you, I opened it up ( I have the cover and that third screw sucks) FYI but yes I cut open and tons better after a blow out thanks again
Thanks bud, I've been having this exact problem. This is my next project to it
It was a huge improvement for me
I could feel it! Not bad!
Look great to me Thanks!
If the blend door actuator isn't working properly, it will also restrick airflow from coming out of the vents. It's located under the steering wheel near the gas pedal.
Yes, this is true. But there would be airflow when cold or hot but not both. In my case, I had little airflow all the time
Can you tell me what the name for the thing so I can order it
Awesome info! think a router trim bit would make a nice clean cut.
Yeah that might work, as long as it fits in there
@@iowadiy6361 I ended up using a small bosh sazall, and finishing it out with a razor knife. Not fun; but totally worth the effort.
should link the product to the description
That resistor on the bottom of the airbox is the main source of fan slow down. Replace it if you haven't.
The fan speed didn’t seem to be slowed at all. Just by blowing out the heater core/evaporator the airflow was increased significantly
I thought it was just a Dorman kit. Thanks for sharing. Yet another mod for my 04 Suburban. What the hell was Chevy thinking not including this?
It was an attempt to “lower maintenance” but in the long run makes more maintenance. What a great idea...
Dodge did the same thing . My friends 2007 or 2008 ram is the same. No air filter. And his evaporator or whatever is clogged to shit. My truck is good but I came to this video because I never changed it. But I guess I may not have one.
Same issue on a 2004 avalanche. fuckn gm. who the fuc make routine maintenance items optional? im glad i got that truck free
Where can I get the filter cover that you had?
I searched it on amazon. I believe it was an AC delco part
why on earth didn't chevy make this easier? then again with all the cut corners I've learned about by fixing my truck, I'm not surprised.
It was “easier” because there was less maintenance to do.. but then that made it harder because there wasn’t just a filter to change
So we're getting a really good blower but no heat. Does the heating core provide the heat? New to this but want fix on my own. Thx
Yes, the heater core uses the engine heat to warm the passenger compartment. Sometimes there can be a shut off valve on one of the lines to block the coolant flow
@@iowadiy6361 Thank you! Hubby will check this. 🤗
i have used a water hose on mine. just line the floor with a tarp.
That sounds like it’d work pretty good
I did this recently
So... None of the 04 Silverado comes with cabin air filter ? I just ordered one and having problem locating it to replace..lol. Can you confirm this for me please? Thanks.
It was an option for the year. Some have it and others don’t
@@iowadiy6361 I checked and mine didn't. Thanks
2 filters go there, in that empty space I have a 2005 Silverado it has two filters that go there
That could be the factory option. The aftermarket options were all showing 1 filter for me
iowadiy what size is the filter
GM part no. is 22759203 for the 1 piece cabin filter
But you removed the existing aluminum filter ?
My truck did not have the option for a cabin air filter so there was no filter to remove
