  • If you have a 2003 - 2007 Classic GM Truck or SUV you can improve interior air quality by installing a cabin air filter. GMT-800 trucks from 1999 to 2002 had it equipped, but in 2003 the removed it. We show you the areas where you can retrofit one in. This affects Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Denali, Avalanche and Escalade.

    GM and Doorman make a retrofit kit for the 03+ trucks. I did it on my 06 Yukon. It comes with the door and filter. Pretty much what you did. But the retro fit filter fits much better. Look into it since you've already done the cutting.

    I did this mod on my 2003 truck, and you are actually supposed to put both filters in at once. The way you did it there is a huge gap above the filter that most of the air will go through. I put both of them in vertically, because if you try and stack them horizontally like yours, it is hard to get the top one out.

      I was just going to say that. My 2002 suburban has TWO filters. I cannot imagine why GM eliminated the filters. My 2012 Sierra has no filter. This means all that dirt get onto the wet cold a/c evaporator coil which is not fun to clean.

      I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm borrowing my dad's 2005 Silverado while my vehicle is in the shop and I noticed a damp smell and immediately thought of replacing the filter for him and quickly realized that it was sealed. The ones that I did see that had filter, had 2 vertically installed side by side. I'm gonna run it by him before doing the mod since he is very particular about his truck. But I'd say it definitely needs it.

    Dorman makes a cover for the retrofitting the non filter system Dorman part number 259-100, it just pops in the slot in the rear and screws in where you rigged a bracket. It says it is for 2007 to 2013 but it will fit 2000 up Tahoes, Silverados, Yukons and Escalades

    Very good Mod especially in a dusty environment. Blower Motor Resistors if allowed to get plugged up with dust/debris will eventually overheat and fail. I repaired this issue on neglected cars.

    • @jimurrata6785
      @jimurrata6785 Před 3 lety +1

      In older Ford's with the resistor under the hood they can get packed with leaves and set the ductwork on fire. 🔥
      If you've got the blower on anything but high and you smell burning leaves or see smoke filling the cab, it's way too late.

      I've been through three Blower Motor Resistors already. Had nothing to do with dust or debris, it has to do with it being upside down and bowl shaped, which holds water that accumulates in the duct. Holds it right against the electrical components and rots them the high heaven, just like everything on this truck. Nearly 40 years driving GM cars and trucks, stupidest design I've ever seen combined with the lowest grade materials the GM cost cutters could get their hands on. I will never, ever buy another GM product.
      In 2012 instead of replacing the wife's trailblazer with another GM, we bought her a Subaru. Driven in the same conditions, the same environment and it's been an outstanding car. GM can kiss my a$$.

    You’re supposed to put those two filters side by side, not just one shoved in horizontally. I had a 02 where they sat vertical side by side.

    Well, if GM doesn't want to put a filter because it's too expensive, maybe $15, then why don't they just cover the hole with a cover so that it's easier for people to install a filter out of their own pocket.

      Just bought a nice '04 Z71 Suburban and intended to change the cabin filters but found it has none. Just checked and it is as you show so going to install filters. Will use the Rockwell Oscillating saw for a clean, easy cut. The filter keeps evap from getting plugged up. I see the blower resistor was recently replaced. Thanks for the video.

    Adding dust collection near the blower motor resistor will kill that electronic part.
    Blower motor resistors are a flawed designed & this mod makes it worse,
    I would like a filter but not at the cost of killing my resistor.
