One thing I’ve always loved about Mr. Swanson. He holds firm beliefs, but he is ALWAYS willing to listen to people. If they sway him the other direction, he has no problem saying “I was wrong and will follow do this moving forward.”
@lelouch19 because Ron's supposed to be a mockery of libratrians but they genuinely agreed with him because they have more then a few full retards amongst them.
Fun fact: Wills, especially holographic (ie handwritten) wills, don't need to be notarized to be valid, but having a will notarized SIGNIFICANTLY shortens probate time and prevents the process from becoming a giant mess.
Was looking to see if someone posted this necessary comment! Although I have heard that holographic wills are not accepted in some states. And it is important that they be' handwritten in order to provide proof of identity It contested. Bravo!
In most states, it has to be signed and dated to be a valid holographic will. It’s signed, but I don’t see a date. Also, holographic wills don’t always make probate easier, quicker, or cheap. Sometimes they raise more questions than they answer.
An addendum, however, is that this is in Indiana, and Holographic wills that are only handwritten by one person with no witnesses present to cosign is not considered valid. Ron does not need a lawyer, however he would need to sign his will and get it cosigned by two witnesses who were not beneficiaries to it for it to be considered valid in Indiana.
@PrincessPeriodFart Lawyers may be individually worse than congressmen, but Ron would definitely pay a lawyer's fees before letting his belongings go the Government collectively
His hands shake in everything ive ever seen him in. Some people just have shaky hands. Seen it in a delivery driver I work with a lot. There's probably some innocuous medical reason
Usually in the absence of a will, the belongings of the deceased goes to the closest family of the deceased. So wife/husband, kids, parent, sibling, and so on. Now in the absence of all that the government can take from their belongings but you also gotta take into account of any friends the deceased may have.
A handwritten will could be valid in some US states. What is most concerning is that Ron's will doesn't specifically leave his evil ex-wife nothing. In the US it's easy to contest a will if you're a relative of some sort and can claim they forgot to mention you. Some bad advice out there is to leave the people you don't like a token $1, but that entitles them to know all the financial details of the will. However naming someone and saying they get nothing both prevents them from contesting the will and protects the financial privacy of your heirs in the US
It's easy to spend resources contesting a will, but it is usually a waste of time. Unless there's extremely solid evidence of an altered mental state, most judges will defer to a notarized and filed will
I just started watching more of these clips because you know this is how you watch TV shows and movies today, anyway I'm really coming to respect Ron a lot He's a man of conviction yet at times he'll listen and change based on reason and logic.
The best part about this scene is when they do go see the lawyer, he also asks what those weird symbols is and Ron says "huh.. I knew I shouldn't have been afraid of you"
All you need is a doc saying who will get your stuff. If you have someone in mind, have that person name and info on it and them sign it in front of the notary. It’s $15 the most and if you have a bank, they can do it for free. You don’t need a lawyer.

This varies by state so it’s important to consult with a lawyer in your state when making an estate plan!

Cooorrect! But... the document must be accurate. In this case, it wasn't and it may be at risk of being kept by the government.
Depends on the state, but it's probably not really enforceable. Most states require at least a witness to handwritten wills.
