The Chrysler 300 Is A Steaming Pile Of V8 Fun: Trade-In-Tuesday

  • In the fourth installment of Trade-In Tuesday, David Tracy drives a 2006 Chrysler 300C.
The Chrysler 300 finally went out of production earlier this year as a 2024 model, after 18 badass years of production. So when I heard that someone had traded in their 2006 model to Galpin Honda, I had to take it for a spin - and my god am I glad I did: This V8-powered, rear-wheel drive Teutonic-American sedan may be ancient enough to enlist, and it may be falling apart in almost every conceivable way, but it has a powertrain that even all these years later feels absolutely phenomenal. This traded-in 300C has a strong heart in a weak body, but it's the former that will win you over. Here, let me explain.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea to have David do this series. How many of these trade ins is he going to end up buying?

Love the 300C, I've had both an early model (2008 SRT-8) and a late model (2016 Platinum 5.7L). Thankfully the interior quality was massively improved for the second generation, especially if you get a higher trim level with the leather-wrapped dashboard and door panels.
The acceleration is addictive and they're great for road tripping, with surprisingly good fuel economy on the 5.7L. Truly one of the last great American sedans, German parts and Canadian assembly notwithstanding.

I rented a compact whatever car from Enterprise. Didn't give a flying Fk what they gave me. Just wanted to get from A-B. Went to pick up the car, they didn't have any compacts (the one I paid for the weekend). Welllll...back in 2018, that rental company had a weekend special. Sales dude was like, " well MrKIC, we don't *edit* have the car you want, BUT we have this". It was a muthfkn Chrysler 300. I was like "Wtf is this? Aight..what's the catch". None. Same fkn price as the compact. Same Fri-Mon Special they "had" back then. So I get in the whip. Oh Sht. He KNEW, I had no idea how to even start the ignition! Drove that MFKA and....Wooooooo! 😂😂❤

And 2006 was the first year of Buick Lucerne which was basically the GM version of the 300.

My homie got one of these from his passed gma.
It didn't have any right to be that much fun with a Buick emblem on it.
V8, sparse interior and idgaf-ness was a good time.
That thing held on for 5 hard and awful years. 😊
