I started learning how to play the flute very recently, and nobody could teach me how to blow into it properly. I watched about 30 different videos online, read 50 articles but none of them helped. You are the first person that taught me how to properly do it. God bless you!

Mister Epic Ferret I wanted a ferret but I got birds
I know this comment is three years old, but reading this again totally made my day :) Thank you!
After watching many videos and reading many articles, it has come to 2 decisions for me:
1. Get flute lessons in real life
2. Trade my flute in for a clarinet or something
I don't want to give up on the flute, but the clarinet sure seems tempting.
I never knew I had to put my lips slightly on the embouchure hole! I was having so much trouble but I can do it now thank you!!! 😊
MrSelfridge thank you!

I played flute in elementary school. I stopped in middle school when my asthma got really bad. Now at 23 I've found my old flute and want to start playing again. I've forgotten everything except how to play f, the first note I ever learned. I look forward to watching your series, and hopefully rediscovering an old passion of mine!
I'm a clarinetist and I just got a flute because y not and this really helps will be subscribing

Guitar Guy buys flute on a fluke. I got some sounds from my new (actually, 2nd hand 1962 model) flute off and on just by luck, like the way I hit a baseball. Your video helps a lot, so I can triple my results of actually making a sound. I guess now, I'm back to the old joke of the tourist lost in Manhattan who asked a local "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" Local says "Practice, practice, practice."
I like to close my eyes and imagine that I get flute instructions from Lin-Manuel Miranda...
I'm making the sound, but it comes out a little weird and sqeaky. Is there something I need to do or do I just need to practice more? Thank you so much!
I'm a clarinet player just picking up flute. Is there any reason my tone sounds extremely flat compared to yours, or is it just because your embochure is stronger and you can control it?
BloodTypeAPlus maybe it's the position of ur mouth
BloodTypeAPlus Same! I'm still trying to get used to it so I'm asking my band director how to have a correct embouchure for the flute
BloodTypeAPlus SAME!!!!!!!
apparenly this is a clarinettist first world problem

I'm shifting from a recorder to flute. Just bough my first flute and I thought headjoint is broken, turns out I'm blwing the wrong way. Thanks!!!!
That was super helpful, thx! I looked at like 20 videos for advice on getting started on flute (in my case Bonsuri) and all of them had the same terribly insensiitve flaw. They say, you may get it immediately, or you may take several weeks to get it, just keep trying. Come on, there must be better more precise advice, I thought. And I was right, you give lots of key tips for getting those first decent sounds and I was pretty much playing within 20 minutes of watching your video.
Awesome tips
Thanks so much I got the sound out of the flute I've been having trouble for 2 years...But I might still try the clarinet
