You can always count on Will Ferrell to deliver some clean fun with a touch of emotion towards the end of the movie. This man is an absolute legend, I hope he lives forever. We've laughed so hard at their first Eurovision performance we had to rewind and watch it again immediately. Our sides hurt so much !
They should of went further with the accident comedy at the end instead of the tear jerker serious ending.

As a Brit, I love the Eurovision. This movie spoofed it in a very affectionate way. Although it doesn’t need much spoofing.
The Eurovision Song Contest is already a spoof of itself and has been so for the past 20 years. Some are aware of this and go along with it. Others are utterly oblivious to this and take it very seriously indeed.
I clicked 'play' expecting to stop it about 10 minutes in but boy was I surprised! You laughed, you cried, this movie was incredible!

I think one of the main reasons this turned out better than the last several Will Ferrell movies of recent years is the fact that he also co-wrote it. His track record with writing his own stuff has been pretty strong (Night at the Roxberry, Anchorman 1/2, Talledega Nights, Step Brothers)

When I read the premise of the movie I was like "This sounds kinda dumb". Boy was I wrong! It was super funny and heartfelt at the same time. It made fun of the ESC but not in a mean spirited or nasty way. Instead it was paying tribute to the contest and gave me a whole new appreciation for it. Whoever wrote the movie has some real love for the ESC and it just shows in every second of it.

As a viewer of Eurovision for the past two years, I really liked the way they satirized the contest without being condescending or degrading it. A balanced movie. Ferrell was so good in this one. Molly Sanden's vocals were excellently matched by McAdams's charming performance.

Well, the thing is the Eurovision has always been like the movie. Many of us watch it just to have some good clean fun. Think about it : to win this contest, each artist needs to make a song that can be liked by every other country. That's not an easy thing to do, so it's often safest to make a fairly basic song with a catchy tune and lyrics that can't spark any sort of controversy whatsoever. Also, the plot of the movie is grounded in truth : many countries don't send their most famous singers because they don't actually want to win. There's no real proof of that but it's a very widespread theory.
Very well put. I was a little sceptical going into it, but I loved the film and they got the tone just right. Will Ferrell really did his homework, but apparently his mother is German so he's grown up with an understanding of the contest. I think in most Americans' hands it would have been "hey, I found this funny contest to rip the piss out of it" but Fire Saga was done with affection.
Very well said. I really liked the movie. It captured the natural silliness of Eurovision perfectly, and ended up being funny with an overall feel-good vibe. It could have easily ended up mean and trashy. I was pleasantly surprised

This was the first movie that came out in the beginning of the pandemic.. Here we are 4 years later and I stilll watch this movie faithfully. Thank you for the music, songs, light and joy that this movie keeps bringing
