Two small-town singers chase their pop star dreams at a global music competition, where high stakes, scheming rivals and onstage mishaps test their bond. - Zábava

Yes, now the joke is an anecdote.
May I ask what happened three days ago?
@@ziggystatdust6008 THE REAL Eurovision Song Contest- not a movie. That's happened. And of course UK's got 0 points at all.

I can see how Americans find this funny, but for Europeans this actually is just how Eurovision is
I think it actually a bit tame compared to the real competition. This movie lacks some Verka Serduchka 😜
@@jetteselent2001 that's hilarious 😄 If I remember correctly the ESC is bigger than the Super Bowl even, so I'm surprised there are people that have never even heard of it. But I love the idea of her thinking it was fictional and then her mind being blown XD
Exactly. My stepdad is portuguese and Eurovision is his guilty pleasure, he watched the movie and was like "Great representation of Eurovision, it's not even exaggerated"
ESC is a freak show and Russia is trying too much. They captured that, indeed.
I had to let my American friends know that Graham Norton's commentary was legit.
"Are you gay?"
"No ,I'm Russian"

I'm just very curious and naive about those kinds of stuff but is it bad for a Russian man to be gay?
@@jinkyricio It is illegal to "promote homosexually to minors" which basically means you couldn't show a gay person on TV without being at risk of breaking the law and could be prosecuted for being openly gay on the street. There are also lots of cases of harassment against LGBT people.

Dan Steven’ character was the best one in the movie. Besides handsome, he was actually very kind, supportive, and generous. I wish they’d do a spin-off of this character. Mita was super cool too.
yeah I found myself rooting for him and Mita way more than for the actual main characters.
True but there were several red flags about him
I want the sequel to open with Lemtov & Mita surfacing in their gold "personal submersible" in the middle of Husavik harbour for a "surprise!" visit to their Icelandic friends. Lemtov still carrying a torch for Sigrit...#firesaga
They were very wholesome "villains" 😊
MITAMITA!
As a russian myself i think his fake russian accent sounds surprisingly real or very close to it. Great work.
Except they all somehow speak with Russian accent. Lol.
Most of the actors in this movie trained with speech coaches to get the accents right. I've been told Ferrell and McAdams sound convincingly Icelandic as well.
I'm not even russian and i thought that the accent was really spot on too
И его акцент не притянут за уши, как в большинстве англоязычных версий русских персонажей.

I like how he simply just wanted a professional and friendly relationship with her and he was respectful. Despite the false set up of him being the stereotypical russian villian. But they humanized him. Refreshing movie

@@matt_kaboom I know, which made it very refreshing. My favorite character
I love him, but he *was* trying to break up the Icelandic duo and wasn't all that nice to Lars. To be fair though, Lars' talent was ...limited... and when he bailed after the semifinals, Lemtov took care of Sigrit. He definitely wasn't the villain he was set up to be.
Matt Mitchell He’s not gay, he’s Russian. He/him pronouns only. He/him.
i feel like he struggles with internalised homophobia and tried to force himself to like sigrit though
I find people are divided over this character. There are those who are a little bit in love with him, and there are those who are a lot in love with him.

This has the same energy as ‘I thought you were American?”
Can we appreciate that this was Will Ferrell’s passion project, he was working on this film for years inspired by his love of Eurovision from his Swedish wife. From the writing to directing, Will truly put his heart into this incredible musically uplifting film for all of us. I only ever saw him as a somewhat low-tier American comedian but he definitely has his moments, this being the shining achievement. Never would I have imagined laughing, crying and feeling so happy watching this film by Will Ferrell. Props to you, Will. Love from South Korea
I couldn't have said it better myself! The last time I cared about a Will Ferrell movie was Elf, but this movie has redefined my thoughts of who he is and I have way more respect for him.
He was excellent in megamind as well, he’s not particularly prestigious but he’s still very talented and deserves a lot more acclaim than he sometimes gets

I agree that there is a lot of bias against the UK in Eurovision. However the acts (at least the last couple of years) have also been boring as hell, so even people who didn't have that bias didn't vote UK. I definitely didn't cause yawn. Weird to me that the contest was held in Glasgow in the movie and they even made a joke about how the UK does badly in Eurovision...

Pleasantly surprised with what they did with this character The easy route was just make him a cartoonish russian villiain, but there is so much more in him! They gave us a tridimensional well rounded character. Lemtov has a subtle presence during the whole movie, he is incredibly gentle and impossible to hate him. Dan Stevens did an awesome job giving life to him. Looking forward to see Dan's next project!
His next project is a thriller, "The Rental" coming out on Friday, July 24th. Then the big one -- "Blithe Spirit" with Judi Dench around Christmastime.

I really like that he wasn't a bad guy, its so tiring to have the hero/antagonist line, its so shallow.
I legit want Dan Stevens to get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this role. He was so good.
Very possible since he absolutely stole EVERY scene he's in. A performance that stands out like this is very often recognized. I would be over the moon if he were to at least get a nomination!!!! And -- can you imagine him singing "The Lion of Love" in his very own voice on stage at the Oscars? It would bring the house down!!!! But difficult to get Oscar for comedic work, BUT not only should he automatically get a Golden Globe nomination, but should win for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy or Musical -- a category that the Oscars do not have. It's for drama, comedy, etc.
Melissa McCarthy got a well-deserved one for Bridesmades. It's rare, but it can happen.
Maybe an Emmy for supporting actor in comedy/musical
@@MsPandachen Emmys are for TV only, not movies. But he certainly should be nominated for a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical. Seems more likely than an Oscar since even for Supporting roles, they usually favor dramatic roles. But, it's not impossible!

It's not even true though lol. I hope Brittish people don't go believing that after watching the movie. It's just that they're cursed with being a Big 5 country. When a normal country has a bad song they don't qualify, when a Big 5 country has a bad song they're already in the Grand Finals so they receive little to no points which is why you often see a Big 5 country like the UK or Germany at the bottom of the scoreboard.

"- You derserve to be happy..

I love the critic behind the character. In real life, year 2020, Russia is still intolerant with gays/lesbians and they are persecuted.
A lot of conservative countries are like that, so I don't know if it is fair to single out one country. It is obviously terrible that innocent people are being disrespected or prosecuted for no reason. Many believe that "promoting" homosexuality is dangerous, as if one can catch it or something. Russians are closer in mentality to Asian people rather than European. A lot of so called western values are unlikely to be adopted there anytime soon.
I think you’re a little misinformed. It’s not illegal to be LGBTQ+ in Russia, however what is illegal is to spread LGBTQ+ propaganda to children. It’s true that this law can be interpreted in different ways though. For example, gay men hold hands on the street and there’s a child who sees them. This would be seen as LGBTQ+ propaganda to children if anyone cares to bring this to the court.
However, there’re still a lot of bloggers in Russia who are openly gay or lesbian and yet they’re still alive and well and not persecuted. (For example, on instagram: larkicheva, basechkaa, zhidkovskiy) I also know several people who are openly gay.
@@polina5520 that is a low, low, low bar. 'as long as we dont see them, let them live'.
@@johnthorsen5394 well, that’s how it is right now, unfortunately, it’s a fact. Russian politics at the moment is reactionary. There wasn’t such a law, for example, in the beginning of the 20th century. Russia even sent a lesbian couple on Eurovision back then and it was a shock for Europe. So, yeah, until the government stays the same, that’s how it’s going to be. That’s why many LGBTQ+ people leave Russia. The purpose of my comment wasn’t to support this law, but just to show that people aren’t persecuted for being gay in Russia.

OK -- this is the kind of performance that came out of nowhere and was totally unexpected!! It's so remarkable, Dan Stevens should at the very least, be nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical. Dan Stevens shows his incredible versatility as an actor in this rollicking comedic role! But he brings much more than his hysterical over-the-top very rich Russian pop star who displays an ambiguous sexuality. In addition to being in love with himself and as arrogant as can be, he also shows a sensitive side that is so evident in his affection for Rachel McAdams. What a far cry from Matthew Crawley (Downton Abbey), David Collins (The Guest) and David (Legion)!!! This man can act. And sing. He was originally to sing "The Lion of Love" but COVID-19 prevented him from traveling to the studio after the picture had wrapped. And, of course, it surely doesn't hurt that he's the most beautiful man on the planet with a high intellect and a heckuva really, really nice guy.
Just saw an interview with director David Dobkin who stated that while he wanted Dan Stevens specifically for this role, he never dreamed he was going to give this kind of performance. He said he's never worked with an actor who blew him away like this and exceeded all expectations. And in addition -- he said that at screenings, nobody ever received a higher likeable response than Dan Stevens got for this iconic role.

Gorgeous, elegant, noble and so perfectly well-mannered. A hunk with a brain and a heart. Will *never* get over Matthew Crawley. And the music John Lunn wrote specifically as "Matthew's Theme" is achingly beautiful. It's played every time there is a Matthew/Mary scene. Haunting.....but Dan richly deserves a Golden Globe Award as Best Supporting Actor in a comedy or Musical for this -- so different from anything he's ever done. Completely owned the character and shocked everyone on the set with his brilliant, original portrayal.

With I didn't realize that he was dan Stevens?!! I thought to myself when I was watching, this guy is so handsome and such a good actor. His performance in this movie is so amazing, so charming, natural and smoothhhhhh aghhh love it
Becasue he is 60 pounds thinner than he was in Downton Abbey. He lost all the baby fat for The Guest in 2013, and kept it off ever since, sometimes appearing actually anorexic -- too, too thin sometimes.
"He, him pronoun" ROFL Dan Stevens deserves not only an award for this but a spin-off which focuses on his future- he stole the show for me
The whole "it's more beautiful because you're here" usually makes me roll my eyes but those blue eyes and hair and chest just... do something
My sister and I agree that he stole the entire movie. And anyway, it's always worth it to watch movies and tv shows just for him :)
PS: I need a spinoff about Alexander Lemtov!!
I LOVED this character. Part of the sweetness of this movie comes from the fact that even Lemtov, who is kind of an antagonist to Lars, is fundamentally a kind, understanding person with good intentions. Eurovision just makes me feel all warm inside.
Alexander's and Mitta's Greek Adventure!!!! I DEMAND THIS SEQUEL
There is something about Dan Stevens that makes him absolutely beautiful
I expected him to be a villain, and he ended up being my favorite character 😭😭😭 he’s so great.
I just came here after watching the ESC 😂
Dan is one of the most beautiful men on earth. 🥰🥰🥰
Really great actor with incredible range.
It's a shame The Guest never got the credit it deserved.
Chris Lucas yes! The Guest is way too underrated and plus Dan Stevens was an absolute badass. I hope it’s getting more recognition after this movie
That movie was awesome.
Agree 100%. The Guest has become a cult classic and all the reviews thought he was great. That movie, right after Downton Abbey, should have done it for him, but he's had to pay his dues, and he surely has with such an incredible variety of roles. See great thing things for him down the road.
HE'S MAGNIFICENT
In every role he plays, especially this comedic turn. One of today's best actors. Period.
agreed. there's nothing this man can't do.
I want a spin-off of Alexander and Mita in Greece.
call it mamma mita: summer of lemkov
@@evanthorn408 genius!
No joke Dan Stevens was my fave character in this. He was funny, supportive, kind, understanding. He's brilliant 🥰
Dan Stevens stole the movie!! Lemtov is such an amazing and likable character!! He is the one that made this movie so great!!!
Oscar worthy of Best Supporting Actor - he IS the movie.
Dan Stevens definitely steals every scene he’s in.
I really thought that he was gonna be an asshole, like, wanna to closer her to messing with her show, but in the end I was happy that he was only a good friend, that wanted her to be his partner on shows.
Really nice see a good representation of a russian person, the line , that he´s says that he´s not gay cause he´s russian breaks my heart, Alexander deserves a solo movie in greece, please netflix
Dan Stevens is king in this. He certainly stole the show!
Not the first time. Dan Stevens is so good, you can't take your eyes off him in every role he plays. Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy or Musical. It just has to be him!!!
Just watching these clips this has got to be one of the most positive Russian Characters coming from Hollywood. I mean think about it for the longest time Russians in movies were spies, villains, and so forth always the antagonists. I am going to watch this just for him
Remember Ivan Danko
He's my favourite character in that movie.
By all accounts -- all reviewers and most fans -- he is definitely the best character in this movie. A really fun and yet poignant role that Dan had a blast doing.
Him and the K-Pop producer who talked about his BDE hundo P
I literally got lost in his eyes in that balcony scene. ღ
is there any role that Dan can't play perfectly? the answer is No , this guy is extremely hot and talented
Dan Stevens was the best thing in the movie
honestly, he's the best character.
Absolutely no doubt about that!
“Everybody hates UK, so ‘0’ points” 🤣🤣
Abdiel Zabad he’s not wrong. 🤣👍
@@nathanielyankey3626 he is wrong. That was germany in 2019, UK got some. 3 points? And that is only televoting of course. Jury do not count.
Валерий Заподовников thanks for letting me know and learning about this.
Валерий Заподовников It’s a joke. GB consistently gets limited number of points year in year out. 😂
@@lolerie As a Brit, I can confirm what he said is true. Especially after last week.
Dan should have been nominated for Oscar Best Support Actor for this and should win. People's Choice!
Totally agree!
That man hypnotized me.... i love him
“WiFi in every room.” My daughter says she’s moving in with him right now.
Being Russian I'm so bored with all Russians always being bad guys in movies (seriously, a very old stereotype). I'm pleased to see a Russian character not being portraited as a bad guy, but a fun, enjoyable character with depth and dignity. Pure joy watching Dan Stevens playing him. I hope to see more representation of Russians like this!
With love from MotherRussia.
your president is doing a good job in reversing that image for a while; look at it that way, it took the Germans decades before they could vacate that place
I just think he was perfectly wonderfully gorgeous. Loved him ❤️
Years ago we had doubts that a Russian guy we know is gay. I asked another Russian (a girl) about it and she said the same thing. 'He's not gay he's Russian'
