  • This is a bit of a different video for us. There is a lot more fabrication and a lot less CNC in this project. We got a new mower and liked the look and function of a bumper, but didn't like the $80 that a Cub Cadet one would cost. Why not make our own?
The bumper itself was made from 1.25 inch steel tube and the brackets were made from 2 ply 16 gauge steel spot welded together, since that is what we had laying around. If we were going to do this again, we would get some heavier metal for the brackets.
All in all, the custom bumper was a slightly different shape than the name brand, but was definitely heavier duty and beefier. Also if you have the tools and equipment available, the DIY only uses about $20 in materials including paint and mounting hardware (vs $80 for the name brand).

Nice job. The only change I would want is for the bumper to be much larger.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks even more for watching! This was just a "for fun" project for us. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to improve our design.

Yeah. It’s easier just buy the bumper.

We enjoyed this project, but it was never about cost. We like to try new things and learn what we can along the way. As always, thanks for watching.

HI, I'm sorry but I'm not rich enough to buy a metal cutter like you have and I wonder how I could make braquettes without this laser cutter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the tricks we use when approaching a project like this with unknown or uncertain dimensions is to use cardboard or even wood to mock up an example. This helps us see what we like and what works. Once you have the shape and dimensions nailed down, you could cut your brackets out with an angle grinder or other cutting tool. The mounting holes could be drilled. The VNC plasma table is definitely not the only way. We would love for you to share your own process. Maybe you could make a better version than we did. Thanks for watching and thank you for the comment.

You can buy one for like $ 40 bucks already to bolt on at your local cob cadet supplier.
