    Christopher Vogler made documentary films as an Air Force officer before studying film production at the University of Southern California, where he encountered the ideas of mythologist Joseph Campbell and observed how they influenced the story design of the first Star Wars movie. He worked as a story consultant in the development departments of 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures and Animation, and Paramount Pictures, and wrote an influential memo on Campbell’s Hero’s Journey concept that led to his involvement in Disney’s Aladdin, The Lion King and Hercules. After the publication of The Writer’s Journey, he had a hand in developing the stories of many productions, including Disney’s remake of 101 Dalmatians, Fox’s Fight Club, Courage Under Fire, Volcano, The Thin Red Line and many others. Vogler lives in Los Angeles, California.

    Stuff we use:
    LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq

    LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

    Over the years I've watched hundreds of videos on filmmaking. Film Courage continues to be an important part of my maturation as a filmmaker. So many of these excellent interviews have contributed to my learning and advancement; particularly as a screenwriter. We never get to see the interviewer, but she has a warmth and inviting voice, asks great and relevant questions, is patient, non-judgmental, fun and moves the interview along. It's fascinating to see which videos get the greatest number of views. Regardless, none of the interviews lack merit to someone striving to make movies. Thank you, Film Courage.

      Great questions for Mr Vogler! Naturally we've all read his work a million times lol, but your questions really brought out a lot of dimensions. That was a phenomenal 10 Minute summary. I'm going to transcribe that bit and use it as my guide.

    Love the Hero's Journey! Have any of you listened to the podcast, "The Ancient Tradition"? I just listened to a fascinating episode where they tie the "Hero's Journey" to a cosmic battle in the Heavens. Very, very interesting...in light of Joseph Campbell's research....OH, AND IT EVEN MENTIONS THIS GUY- Christopher Vogler!

    Is there an anti-hero's journey? How does it depart from the stages of the hero's journey? Asking for a tragedy.

    • @anhumblemessengerofthelawo3858
      @anhumblemessengerofthelawo3858 Před 7 měsíci

      When, in life, catalyst isn't used, opportunities can dry up. The anti-hero is he whose life, intended for joy, turns sour. It's not fun to watch a life be wasted.

    • @athousandgreatbooks
      @athousandgreatbooks Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@anhumblemessengerofthelawo3858pictorially, I'm seeing hero's journey as a V or a valley, and the anti hero's journey as an inverted V like a hill.

    • @v_vlps
      @v_vlps Před 7 měsíci

      @@athousandgreatbooksthat's a very interesting thought. Can you think of some examples in any movie? I'm curious, and particularly drawn to antiheroes 🙈

    • @bygmesterfinnegan6938
      @bygmesterfinnegan6938 Před 5 měsíci +1

      There is. There is a magnificient short story by the Turkish author refik Halit Karay that would translate as "Peach Gardens". I would advise you to check it out after reading on the transition from the ottoman empire to the Turkish republic. There are probably more conventional examples but this comes to my mind.
      Edit: I think I misunderstood your question. You are asking about the journey of an anti-hero. I gave the example as an anti heros-journey. But still, its a short read if you can find it.
